I've got the bits and pieces and I'm lacking a decent sized gift. Any inspiration? Thanks

OP posts:

No, I am saying that she asked what we had bought for our 14 year old boys. The answers were sex specific because they were saying what we had bought, not what we thought OP should buy
I could pretend I have bought mine a make up set and hair straighteners if it makes you feel any better. I haven’t, but if that’s what he wanted I would have

Hoppinggreen · 18/12/2020 13:03

I am about to buy DDs 15 year old BF Pokemon cards, but I have no idea about them. This is because it’s what he would like, not because I am forcing gender stereotypes on him

AurorayRuben · 18/12/2020 13:10

What is a 'typical' 14 year boy then, one who is conditioned by parents and society to like certain items?

cracracatlady · 18/12/2020 13:23

Mine wanted the new iPhone this year so pretty straight forward for once

treeeeemendous · 18/12/2020 13:27

@AurorayRuben there is nothing wrong with being 'typical' or not. I have one child who very much confirms to gender stereotypes. The other I always describe as quirky and actually doesn't have any friends with the same passion for her interests and age does. I hope that as she gets older and her world widens she will meet some. I certainly don't force an eyebrow pencil and a jack wills hoody on her and say be a typical teen.

I love them unconditionally, I want them to be independent people who think for themselves. We have not forced either child to any stereotype but you can't help the fact that many 14 year old boys have the same interests.

HippyChickMama · 18/12/2020 13:27

13 year old ds:
A phone projector and pull down screen
Metallica monopoly
Metallica bobblehead
An Xbox game
A massive Han Solo in carbonite poster
A football shirt
Plus stocking tat

Another idea for dc that play guitar, I've bought guitar playing 16yo dnephew a pick punch, some sheets of the plastic that go with it and a pick holder key ring

Alexandernevermind · 18/12/2020 13:27

@AurorayRuben why are you making this this about something it isn't? OP asked what we had bought our boys, I'm sorry you don't think we are cultured enough to not buy them what they want because it is too typically male! Hmm

treeeeemendous · 18/12/2020 13:28

Grrr edit button

Same passion for her Interests that she does

AurorayRuben · 18/12/2020 13:32

Don't underestimate the influence parents have Treeeemendous.
Subconscious or not you will have influened your children.
Try and influence your son to be less conformist.
Why describe your daughter as quirky? That's very telling!
Is not just 'herself'?

Hoppinggreen · 18/12/2020 13:33

I will break the news to DS, hair straighteners and a make up palette it is then - I dont want to be thought of as enforcing gender stereotypes .
He will hate them and be sad all Christmas but woke points for me!!

SuePreem · 18/12/2020 13:34

@AurorayRuben

What is a 'typical' 14 year boy then, one who is conditioned by parents and society to like certain items?
oh for goodness sake.
AurorayRuben · 18/12/2020 13:35

Ha!
You're not quite getting it, are you Hoppinggreen?

vickibee · 18/12/2020 13:35

a smart rubik cube that links to your smart phone app, we got this for our DS birthday and he loves it.

Nonamesavail · 18/12/2020 13:37

If OP wanted out the box ideas she would have said.

MrsAvocet · 18/12/2020 13:38

Mine has just turned 15 and he's getting a new (to us) mountain bike and some clothes.

AurorayRuben · 18/12/2020 13:38

Yes of course, let's keep in nice and conformist and 'in the box' !!

Hoppinggreen · 18/12/2020 13:38

Yes, yes I am
I’m am getting that you are a GF

Hoppinggreen · 18/12/2020 13:39

vickibee that sounds cool, does it come in pink so I can get one for my daughter?

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 18/12/2020 13:40

Mine is 12 but, new gaming chair, gaming table and an elite controller. All similar in price. Thinknhes working up to asking for a gaming pc for his birthday 🙄

AurorayRuben · 18/12/2020 13:44

And what would you get it your teen was Trans?
You'd get what they wanted, I hope...sincerely.
But some people have deeply ingrained ideas of what a 'typical' boy is that they would find that difficult.
Boy, girl, non binary, trans........know your child and buy accordingly.

Hoppinggreen · 18/12/2020 13:45

I am pretty sure I would have noticed if he was

Hoppinggreen · 18/12/2020 13:51

And the agenda is revealed

Nonamesavail · 18/12/2020 13:52

Whether people like it or not most teenage kids in a mainstream school will like the same kind of items. Yes they will have individual likes etc but the OP didn't ask that. Its no shame in admitting they like the same as their peers.

MercedesDeMonteChristo · 18/12/2020 14:13

we have got them what they will like. That’s the point. DS loves football and a very specific historical period/geography for which other than books there is little that can be bought. Just give over please.

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 18/12/2020 14:18

Mine would be very dissapointed with most of the suggestions above because, thankfully he has his own mind and does not go with gender stereotypes....

Why thankfully? Hmm perhaps its YOU pushing certain things on to your child to prove how "different" you can be. Does it make you feel like you have done a better job at parenting because your son likes dancing and singing. Thats nothing new BTW. Males have been doing that since the beginning of time.
A lot of the suggestions that are here for boys would work for most girls too you know. Seems like you are fixated on gender.
