I've got the bits and pieces and I'm lacking a decent sized gift. Any inspiration? Thanks

DS is almost 13 and he has asked for airpods this year 😁

UndertheCedartree · 18/12/2020 07:56

My 13.5yr old has a Pokemon trainer and booster box

Bunnybigears · 18/12/2020 08:00

A weights bench that he has already had, he has clothes and sweets to open on the day.

Gotheeunicorns · 18/12/2020 09:22

Not long turned 15 year old:
Nike Air Force ones

Adjustable dumbells

Hockey trainer

He has a new xbox series x to share as a family gift.

Don't you know the youing person's interset, hobbies, etc?
Mine would be very dissapointed with most of the suggestions above because, thankfully he has his own mind and does not go with gender stereotypes....

ItsIgginningtolookalotlikeXmas · 18/12/2020 09:48

Yes OP don't pay any attention to the posters who have thoughtfully listed what their actual 14 year old sons like, they are just sheep without the power of independent thought Confused
There is a point to be made about gender stereotyping in gifts, but some practical suggestions are more useful here, surely? What are yours?

MercedesDeMonteChristo · 18/12/2020 10:04

Ds14’s big present is a football shirt - they are bloody expensive and he only asked for that and a computer game that his grandparents have got for him.

We bought some wireless EarPods, board game, couple of books, smellies.

But thats an exception to a rule...most of the ideas here kids would be happy with. What's the problem?Hmm
Mercedes519 · 18/12/2020 10:10

FFS there is always one...

I’m glad it’s not just my DS with an IOU for a PS5. DH and DS will share it if we can ever get one!

Intrigued by the fold up keyboard, I used to play and wondered about starting again. Off to look...

What is this? My nearly 13yo is madly into Pokemon, and I haven't actually got him anything yet apart from a hotel chocolat velvetiser (he's madly into hot chocolate too) which he'll share with the other dcs.
AurorayRuben · 18/12/2020 10:25

It's about knowing the teen's likes and dislikes.
Most people's suggestions are very gender specific which would not work with my son or indeed many of his male friends.

Hoppinggreen · 18/12/2020 10:27

Mine is 12 but we have got him a bench and weights

Hoppinggreen · 18/12/2020 10:28

And his sister is welcome to use it too for anyone worried about gender stereotyping

AurorayRuben · 18/12/2020 10:31

Thank goodness for that Hoppinggreen.
I dread to think what people would suggest for a 14 year old girl!

mrsm43s · 18/12/2020 10:36

Occulus Quest 2 headset plus a gaming keyboard for main presents.

Stocking is mainly cheap fillers (chocolates/giant nutella/big bag of chupa chups etc) or things he actually needs (new socks and pants/first electric razor!) because his main presents are pretty pricey this year!

Hoppinggreen · 18/12/2020 11:08

Well my girl is 15 and getting a running machine and a new keyboard for her Gaming PC

AurorayRuben · 18/12/2020 11:27

When my son was 14 he got Glee DVDs, a top hat and cane (very into dance routines) and lots of other random stuff.
What I find odd (and a bit worrying) is that the majority of people respond to the OP's post with lots of gender specific ideas without actually asking what the teen's interersts are!

MercedesDeMonteChristo · 18/12/2020 11:38

I think most people responded with what they have got their teen DSs. It so happens that many of the things asked for/interested in have conformed to the stereotype - but if that’s why they like.

We went for football shirt as he asked for it. One year he got flamenco boots because he started lessons, another we have a video of him going absolutely crazy for the next books in a series. He went for years collecting bow ties. His brother (DS12) once asked for a sewing kit and got it, this year he wanted a gaming keyboard and mouse.

My point is really, I didn’t share this because the OP asked what we’ve bought him this year and my response was what he asked for.

It’s equally relevant for you to say you’ve bought DS a top hat etc if that’s what he likes and you’ve bought. It didn’t appear to me that people were saying ‘well because he is a boy...’

Hoppinggreen · 18/12/2020 11:42

The question was want a have you got your 14 year old boy

Alexandernevermind · 18/12/2020 11:43

Ha ha, the gender stereotype comment made me laugh. The boy is getting an air rifle, the girl a loaded Debit Card.

SuePreem · 18/12/2020 12:03

I'm now thinking of getting my ds a guitar! would I get an acoustic guitar or an electric one? I can picture him strumming on a beach in an annoying traveller type way in a few years, but maybe that's my vision not his.

(the twitch is strong here today).

Mine already has a PS4 and I'm not getting him anymore gaming stuff this year - he's addicted and limited to playing at weekends only now.

Have also got mine some nike hoodies and joggers as he's grown out of his and that's all he wears.

AurorayRuben · 18/12/2020 12:10

I know what the question was Hoppinggreen.
So you're saying because boy was in the question the OP must be looking for gender specific ideas?

treeeeemendous · 18/12/2020 12:37

@AurorayRuben

I think if the OP had a son that was getting a box set of glee and a cane she may have written that in her post to give us an idea that she was looking outside of the box for ideas.

I rarely post on threads for 15yr old girls as mine is not into branded clothes or make up etc that many girls that age are. Most girls her age would not be interested in any of things I have bought dd and I very rarely get ideas of presents she would like on here.

My son however is a different story. I think it's safe to say if the OP was asking what everyone was getting their 14 yr old boys she probably has a relatively mainstream child. However anyone is free to post what they have bought their child and who knows maybe the OP is off googling glee box sets right now. Nothing wrong with that. We love glee in this house.

SuePreem · 18/12/2020 12:47

@AurorayRuben

I know what the question was Hoppinggreen. So you're saying because boy was in the question the OP must be looking for gender specific ideas?
I think that the OP would have specified if her son was not a typical teenage boy.

My ds is, but loves baking cakes too (if we're going to apply gender stereotypes). I've still found this thread immensely helpful. (although I need guidance on Pokemon please...).
