Playstation 5 - what should I do?

I have three DC who have hand an incredibly hard year. Two of them have asked for PS5 for Christmas. There is more stock being released on Thursday but advice is that it will sell out in less than an hour and isn't guarantee to be delivered before Christmas.

I've been watching on eBay and the price that they are going for is slowly rising and is now double the actual cost of the console in store. I assume once they've sold out online on Thursday the eBay prices will rocket even more.

My question is what would you do? Would you risk trying to get one online on Thursday and just hope they arrived for Christmas or just take he hit and buy from eBay before prices go up any more?

I had this problem with the Xbox. I was online from 7.50am on several different sites and stock was released at 8am - they all sold out it front of my eyes while I tried to get one.

I won’t buy from Ebay on principle as I think it’s disgusting that people do that.

I’m just going to have to give my son the money I think. Really disappointing but everywhere sold out in minutes and the sites were so slow, kept crashing. I got as far as payment details on one then it crashed and when it rebooted it was out of stock. So annoying.

Try GAME on Thursday

NeverTalksToStrangers · 15/11/2020 23:15

Try game repeatedly before and after Thurs. They have slowly been releasing cancelled stock every day. Just keep trying to add it to your basket. And once you get a bundle in the basket, keep trying to check out.

It has worked for loads of us. Check the chat on stockinformer.co.uk

Closingtime94 · 15/11/2020 23:16

The only advice that have is keep checking, I missed it on pre order and happened to check the day after and managed to get one and as far as I'm aware it's being delivered Thursday so keep checking, if not maybe give the children the money and then they can buy it themselves when it comes out again and if not they can buy something else they want?

WeAllHaveWings · 16/11/2020 00:17

I was really lucky and nabbed one on amazon during the 2nd release of pre orders, after check out I went straight back on to order another for my niece and they were gone. If I hadn't got one for ds there is no way I would pay inflated ebay prices. How would that even work for warranty? Ds would have understood he would have to wait.

Hopefully there will be plenty more before Xmas and this was all just hype, keep checking and good luck.

TheLastStarfighter · 16/11/2020 00:47

How old are your kids? Mine are young teens - I have told them we will get one “for Christmas” but that it won’t be until some time next year. They were totally fine with it. Would that be an option?

FlyingByTheSeatof · 16/11/2020 01:13

No way would I pay extra via eBay. My DS 14 is fine with his PS4 for now and totally understands the PS5 is not really necessary as well as tricky to get hold of. He hasn't asked for one but I know he'd love one. This has made realise how cool he is and I wish I could get one for him but he'll have to wait a while.

ineedaholidaynow · 16/11/2020 01:17

Think we may have to go for a slightly delayed Christmas present, might make it a birthday present as that is not long after Christmas

Dazedandconfused10 · 16/11/2020 01:21

The US where both consoles were released last week have had in store availability. So rather than pay over the odds chances are you will find stock somewhere

WeAllHaveWings · 16/11/2020 16:26

Amazon have more stock in on Thursday, release day. Guess other suppliers will too.

The Sony PlayStation 5 will be available for order again on Amazon.co.uk on 19 November 2020 after 12:00 noon GMT. Stock is limited.

We will make every effort to deliver all orders as soon as possible. If you order, we will email you with an estimated delivery date. However, this may be subject to change.

TeaOneSugar · 16/11/2020 21:23

I pre ordered at Game and went back before lockdown started to pay the balance so I can collect it on Thursday. If I hadn't there's no way I'd be paying someone on EBay a huge mark up, I'd rather order one and hope it comes in time and wrap up an IOU if it doesn't.

clpsmum · 16/11/2020 22:04

It's awful I really don't want to buy them if eBay but honestly not sure what to do. Their arsehole father had decided that him and his family are no longer acknowledging them at Christmas or birthdays so feel like I really want to give them the one thing they've asked for. I know it won't make up for the paternal side of their family but it might soften the impact a bit.

Really begrudge it though. People went out and pre ordered for the sole reason to rip off desperate parents at Christmas 😡😡😡

Sony had made out there would plenty to
Go around.
Register with this website www.stockinformer.co.uk/checker-ps5-playstation-5-console

Also argos stock comes and goes as levels change in the stockroom with deliveries three times a day and also people failing to collect things in time puts them back into stock.
I have a feeling it will be a mad scramble.. and then just before xmas there will be plenty in shops.

FMyUterus · 16/11/2020 22:12

I pre ordered the ps5 and I don't have kids. But I'm not ripping anyone off Hmm

Spanglebangle · 16/11/2020 22:17

They will be for sale again. Christmas is just a day. Buy them something small for Christmas with the promise of ps5 when they are available. It is not that important.

Closingtime94 · 16/11/2020 22:33

@FMyUterus

I pre ordered the ps5 and I don't have kids. But I'm not ripping anyone off Hmm
I think OP means the people that pre order them and then sell them at a marked up price not people who have just pre ordered them.
FMyUterus · 16/11/2020 22:39

@Closingtime94 oh. Haha sorry Blush

Dazedandconfused10 · 16/11/2020 23:40

@FMyUterus same! And booked a long weekend off work too Grin

clpsmum · 17/11/2020 07:07

I meant people pre ordering them with the intention to put them on eBay and sell them at inflated prices are ripping people off! I didn't mean everyone than pre orders are ripping people off sorry if I didn't explain myself properly!

OP posts:
buckeejit · 17/11/2020 07:45

We're also wanting one for ds, but looks like we'll have to gift him money towards it. He wouldn't expect one for Christmas as it's more than we'd usually spend but would love to nab one on Thursday!

Wherearefoxssocks · 17/11/2020 20:38

I remember when the Wii came out, my brother's best friend got an empty Wii box with a note attached saying he would get one in the new year. His mum had convinced the shop to give her an empty box

buckeejit · 17/11/2020 21:14

@Wherearefoxssocks that's so cruel, the poor child!

Wherearefoxssocks · 17/11/2020 21:17

@buckeejit he really didn't mind. He was old enough to understand how difficult they were to get

buckeejit · 17/11/2020 21:19

Where do we think are the best bet to try for stock and maybe crucially, who has the best website? Some are temperamental at the best of times.

It feels like trying to get Glastonbury tickets. We need tactics. Better go & check I've set up accounts!

buckeejit · 17/11/2020 21:22

Ah, not so bad then. My ds would probably find the disappointment of the empty box much worse than no box.

I think we'll give ds cash as he's just turned 11 & can use his new debit card to buy it himself later which will give him a thrill.

Hope it ends up worth the hype!
