DD is currently obsessed with makeup. She always asks for her own nail varnish, makeup and perfume. I worry about her skin so try to avoid it but it is on her xmas list. I ahve just seen this.

Would you get it for a 5 year old?

Yes, I don't see why not, it's only tester size, and less likely to cause a rash than cheap kiddie ones.

Janaih · 07/11/2020 18:38

Definitely not for a 5 year old.

SleepingStandingUp · 07/11/2020 18:39

No, there's lots of"children's" perfumes etc, is get her one of those

mogtheexcellent · 07/11/2020 18:39

I wouldn't but I don't wear perfume or make up. Dd is 6 and she has a couple of tinted lip balms in her stocking.

Zofloratheexplora · 07/11/2020 18:40

No

This was my thought too, but then, she may go overboard and start spraying it everywhere!

At 5 itis not a phase i would pander to. I'd just go with its not needed and there are much funner things to get for christmas.

At a push i might get face paints and play real dress up.

Denthelp · 07/11/2020 18:42

I would get her perfume but maybe a little mix one or similar. Claire’s for little make up sets / nail varnish.

Janaih · 07/11/2020 18:42

A lot of my friends wear ghost perfumes they are quite potent. An Eau de toilette for children would be best imo.

I’d be channelling her obsession into other interests at such a young impressionable age.

Onceuponatimethen · 07/11/2020 18:47

No

Ukholidaysaregreat · 07/11/2020 18:48

Claire's Accessories is great for nail varnish and jewellery sets.

SpookyNoise · 07/11/2020 18:48

No I wouldn’t.

user1493494961 · 07/11/2020 18:50

No, I wouldn't buy that for a 5 year old.

Denthelp · 07/11/2020 18:50

@BuggerationFlavouredCrisps what are you worried might happen to a 5 year old little girl playing with make up / painting her nails at home?

Vickles20 · 07/11/2020 18:50

Monsoon accessorise has some cute things for little girls that I think would be better for a girl who’s 5. Plenty of time for that kind of stuff when she’s older x

PurpleDragons · 07/11/2020 18:51

Just a word of warning when I got one of these as a gift last year these mini perfumes don’t have a ‘spray pump’ top - they just open and you fab the perfume directly from the bottle to your skin

Nahmfor · 07/11/2020 18:51

No I wouldn't. There's children's makeup and little makeup bags you could get her. Or a children's bath set.

Far too grown up imo

Nahmfor · 07/11/2020 18:52

@PurpleDragons that's such a useful point, definetly not suitable for a 5 yr old

RubaiyatOfAnyone · 07/11/2020 18:53

I’m all for getting children the random stupid things they ask for, as long as they are stocking-filler prices.

It will either go one of two ways on unwrapping - either she will use it once or twice, decide she doesn’t really like “grown-up” smells and forget about it (no harm done) or she will treasure the memory of that time she got that grown up thing she really REALLY wanted and it will be one of her best things.
