DD is currently obsessed with makeup. She always asks for her own nail varnish, makeup and perfume. I worry about her skin so try to avoid it but it is on her xmas list. I ahve just seen this.

Would you get it for a 5 year old?

No, because little samples tend not to have a spray and just a lid.

My son likes smelly things, I sometimes buy him very cheap perfume or cheap aerosol, hes got a little tes baker aerospl at the minute. I do however keep them in the bathroom and he is allowed to use them for special occasions and spray it while I’m there, otherwise he sprays the entire bottle on himself and stinks.

evrey · 07/11/2020 18:56

Its a nice little size. Im sure you could tell her to just dab it on her wrists. I love the smell of ghost myself.

BlibBlobBab · 07/11/2020 18:58

The thought of a 5 year old wearing perfume is a bit strange to me, a bit too grown up maybe... I don't know if that's just me being weird though! I don't think I would buy it for my daughter (she's 6) if I were in your shoes. I'd probably stick to nail varnish and lip balm.

Lucindainthesky · 07/11/2020 19:02

Eau de parfum for a 5yo? No.

Lottieskeeper · 07/11/2020 19:03

Seams very grown up for a 5 year old.

My 5 year old is going through a make up and perfume phase. I'm getting her some peel off water based nail varnish from Claire's. It's in neon pink, yellow and aqua and has glitter. Some how it seams more age appropriate.

Probably getting some disney princess perfume too!

Ohdoleavemealone · 07/11/2020 19:04

@PurpleDragons

Just a word of warning when I got one of these as a gift last year these mini perfumes don’t have a ‘spray pump’ top - they just open and you fab the perfume directly from the bottle to your skin
Thank you. Very good to know.

@SprogletsMum

Primark sell little girl perfume usually with a Disney character on for around £2 i would buy those for a 5 year old
I really don't trust these for some reason. Wouldn't use the on myself either.

@Qwertywerty3

Absolutely not. She’s five years old! I can’t get my head around how sexualised our young girls are becoming. It’s really worrying. What next? Waxing her legs for her 6th birthday?
What is sexy about nail varnish and a tiny perfume?

I'm not buying her a thong!

Yes I would.

Denthelp · 07/11/2020 19:09

@Ohdoleavemealone Grin

RickOShay · 07/11/2020 19:10

I think I would.

CloudyVanilla · 07/11/2020 19:15

Is perfume sexualising?? Confused

My kids (boy and girl) both love my body sprays and perfumes and always want a spritz. Same with their dads aftershave.

This year both of them are getting a little fragrance in their stocking this year, DD will be 5 and DS will be 3. I'm just getting cheap ones from Next aimed at kids but like so many things adults do our DC love to emulate.

It has a practical use and is a nice gift. I should clarify though that I see perfume very much as part of grooming and not sexualisation /getting dolled up.

stressbucket1 · 07/11/2020 19:15

I would get a specific childs one for a 5 year old. You can almost guarantee she will spray it into her eyes at some point so it needs to be safe.
Also she will definitely put too much on.
My slightly older DD's have kids perfume and have done both of the above!

Whathappenedtothelego · 07/11/2020 19:18

I wouldn't, I would get a fruity scented body spray instead - the sort in a plastic bottle with spray top, not the ones in a metal can.

cardswapping · 07/11/2020 19:19

Honestly no but my DDs were not until any girlie stuff. A friend who only had boys and longed for girls things once gifted a make up palette to them when the oldest was 3yo I think. She opened it and said: "thanks for the painting set" and proceeded to draw a house on a sheet of paper Grin.

On a practical matter, if you do go for it, I think you need to watch out for alcohol content, I seem to remember it is not suitable for thinner child skins.

GameSetMatch · 07/11/2020 19:20

Next do children’s perfume, Its really inexpensive.

fluffiphlox · 07/11/2020 19:20

Many of us enjoyed playing around with makeup and perfume when we were her age. I think I’d buy her the pretend stuff rather than grownup scents. Try Avon.

TokyoSushi · 07/11/2020 19:22

They have nice children's perfume in Next

purpleme12 · 07/11/2020 19:24

No I wouldn't
I get children's make up for mine
From the likes of B&M, home bargains, Matalan, Primark.
Also when mine tried normal nail varnish that adults would wear she found the smell overpowering

chunkyrun · 07/11/2020 19:24

Those that say no, just wondering why?

Spied · 07/11/2020 19:27

As a pp suggested, I'd go to Next.
That tiny bottle is likely to be spilt on first use. A five-year old will also not properly understand that she needs to be liberal with application and it'll be gone by boxing day which will probably cause tears.
Miss Butterfly in Next is beautiful.

RJnomore1 · 07/11/2020 19:29

How the fuck is perfume sexualised? The advertising may be but a smell?

I still wouldn’t buy it as it’s quite strong and may burn sensitive little skin but like others say the next children ones are nice and look quite grown up, this is a little more expensive but gives her a few to try:

kateybeth79 · 07/11/2020 19:33

@Qwertywerty3 It's worrying how you can think about 5 years old being sexualised! When my DD was 5 she used to wear a bit of my perfume on special occasions and it never made her suddenly become sexy! It's attitudes like yours that feel everything is sexy that are an issue!! You are the one doing the sexualising here! To a 5 year old it's just role play and copying Mummy!!

Fryingpan1990 · 07/11/2020 19:34

Wow people are a bit OTT 🤣

To the original poster I for my daughter some next kids perfume for this year
And last year she got some body mist spray from Claire’s which is more water based.

It’s literally a nice smelling spray I have no idea why it’s sexualising at all.

MiriamMargo · 07/11/2020 19:36

No, for simple reason its too grown up, and they grow up quick enough as it is, keep things girly and child like
