Hope you don’t mind the title @IveGotALovelyBunchOfCoconuts !

please post any bargain info IN BOLD to make it easier to scroll through the thread.

To make things bold you:
Put a star each side of what you want to make bold like this but without the space between the star and the writing *

Just a reminder you can watch the thread by clicking on ‘watch this thread’ at the top of the first message. It’s much easier for everyone than so many place marking every time which can use up a fair chunk of each thread to scroll through Thanks

Nutmeg is a great magazine. I'm a huge Scottish football fan myself and I got a subscription for my dad last year.
The writer Daniel Gray (who also collaborated on the Snapshots book) has also written a couple of really good collections of essays on football: Saturday, 5pm and Black Boots and Football Pinks.

catanddogmake6 · 24/10/2020 09:17

@littlestpogo would the Beano work for your son? DD1 started with the Beano and progressed onto the Phoenix.

oatmilkisntsobad · 24/10/2020 09:20

[quote hoopdeloop]I’ve posted this on the ‘impossible DH’ thread but thought I’d post here. Nutmeg (a Scottish football fanzine) has produced a book called Snapshot which is a tour of different Scottish football grounds. It’s a mixture of stories and pictures but might be a nice gift for the hard to buy male! I have no affiliation but we’ve bought 4 for our dads and uncles! It’s £14.99 and free delivery

That sounds like a thread I need to be on! I can't find it though - can you link to it please?

littlestpogo · 24/10/2020 09:20

Thanks @catanddogmake6 - doh why didn’t I think of the Beano!

sorryiasked · 24/10/2020 09:29

Rideontoys4u discount code HALFTERM

XFPW · 24/10/2020 09:30

@ShoppingBasket I highly recommend Apolis Global Bags

They are NOT cheap - especially as they are shipped from the US, BUT - they are amazing bags and they do good in the world. I have 2 market bags and am hoping for a petite one for Christmas this year.

I absolutely love mine - they carry an insane amount of weight (I think it’s something like 130lb - as if I could ever actually lift that! Grin) and look fab. The personalisation makes them pretty special too. I’ve had my first one for 5 years now I think and it’s still going strong. I am asked where I got them from regularly when in the supermarket.

Lockdownhairdontcare · 24/10/2020 09:36

Penhaligonsgift set bargain. Here

caffeineanddryshampoo · 24/10/2020 09:44

Went to ikea the other day and you can get a battery operated milk frother for £1. Might be useful for anyone making up hampers on a budget.

Teabird · 24/10/2020 09:46

Boden voucher gone thanks

Badgerling · 24/10/2020 09:50

Thanks @Junobug, I didn’t even know fat face did bedding!

Kutsy · 24/10/2020 09:52

Please could I ask you wise ladies for shopping advice? I always buy a cd audiobook set for Dc for Xmas. With the sad demise of book people, my options have become very limited and expensive! Anyone seen any good value children’s audio book cd sets on their shopping travels please?

snowfairylover · 24/10/2020 09:57

@oatmilkisntsobad @CoffeeAndEnnui @Trumpton Thank you so much for your help! Star I will have a look at the Freedom marshmallows and the M&S ones Smile

wibdib · 24/10/2020 10:09

@littlestpogo I was also going to suggest the Beano - if you look on their Facebook page the currently have an offer of 7 for £7 (sometimes it’s been 20 for £20) but if you wait until Black Friday there’s usually a cheap deal and gif to be had - last year it was a nerf gun, year before a personalised copy of the Beano annual. (Can you tell I have a Beano addict in the family?! Grin). Boots apparently going to have some Beano gift sets this year (haven’t been to see them yet) and the Beano online shop has a sale on too with some nice bargains.

@ShoppingBasket have you thought about an Ikea bag? The original big blue ones are a bargain at 50p obviously but if you wanted to splash the boat out a bit theynow have some in different designs from £1-£3. They even seem to have some in a new variant of the usual big bag that have zips along the top so you can use it as a standard stuff it all in Ikea bag but zip it too if you want to/have enough space left. Seems to be at least one Christmas design with the zip if you want a festive version for your festive travels!

Alternatively I have a great bag from TK Maxx that’s in rucksack type material and very similar in size to an Ikea bag but while it does have a zip, you don’t have to use it. It has a tiny zipped pocket on the front but is mostly just a cavernous bag. It folds away really easily too - there were 2 in store when I bought it and I bought one, went back to get the other one soon after (same day!) and it was gone - always regretted not having a second as it is so useful for just throwing everything into. Think mine was by a brand called Portland but camping type shops might have similar that would work for you?

Some companies print photos onto big jute bags - I’ve done some using Tesco Photo for my mum as she uses their big jute bags a lot so I did some with photos of beautiful flowers that I’d taken and she loved.

@Icantfindanewname Many thanks for the info on the optical illusion T-shirt’s - that’s really useful to know and it sounds like they’re worth a shot...

nicky2512 · 24/10/2020 10:15

Does anyone know if there’s anyway to save any money at Guess?
Dd saw a handbag on their site that she loves but it was a bit pricey for a poor student! She’s had a hard year though (haven’t we all!) and she never asks for anything or gives me any bother so I would love to get her it. Thanks.

SushiGo · 24/10/2020 10:20

Word or warning about the rideontoys4u site, they charge more for delivery the more you have in your basket. It looks like it's £3.99 under £20, £4.99 under £30 and £9.99 over 30.

There are some really good prices but potentially worth splitting into small orders if there are a few things you like.

Ewock · 24/10/2020 10:23

Thank you to pp for the RideonToys website and 20% discount with the HALFTERM code. I've just placed an order for the items in the two photos. And paid just under £20 with delivery. I'd never heard of this website but they have some lovely toys.
Also in Tesco earlier they had the grabber toys someone was asking about for £20.

@Kutsy not sure how old your dc are but quite a lot of the David Williams picture books have a cd of the book with them, eg Geromino, Boogie Bear. They are also included in the 2 for £7 in Asda, Tesco, amazon (which vary often). Also seen them in Sainsbury’s recently.

Hophop26 · 24/10/2020 10:30

*Walliams. Silly auto correct!

pasinphoebe · 24/10/2020 10:32

@Kutsy I haven’t looked this year but the works have sometimes had cd audiobooks.
Bedding with high thread count from brand alley and usually a code about.
Also tkmaxx for good quality bedding and H&M have been good.

HOLLAND AND BARRATT - desperate for free delivery with a lower spend .. anyone know of any deals or anything here?

Jfw82 · 24/10/2020 10:32

If you are an H&M member/have the app worth checking your offers in the app as I just found a 15% off everything in my account

SushiGo · 24/10/2020 10:33

Okay, I think I've worked it out, the delivery costs kick in before discount. So numbers up there not quite right (it's 5.99 over 30... eventually delivery is free over 75)

Thanks for posting this! Going to get this for my very hard to buy for dad Smile

JinglesWish · 24/10/2020 10:41

@ShoppingBasket - I bought 2 large jute shoppers for my SILs. Lovely quality and quick delivery. I think they were £36 each with free delivery. The 10% off code was Hello10

leeloo1 · 24/10/2020 10:41

@littlestpogo - I'd recommend storytime magazine too. It has a good mix of traditional stories, new ones, poems etc and there is online content to go with it each month. My dd has had it since she was 4 and at that time I had to read most of it to her, but at 6 she can read it for herself. Beano is great for a laugh (my 6 & 12 year old both still love it), but if your little one is an enthusiastic reader then something more challenging might be a better option?
