Reastie · 03/10/2020 12:04

NEW INFO PLZ READ
**please post any bargain info IN BOLD to make it easier to scroll through the thread.

To make things bold you:
Put a star each side of what you want to make bold like this but without the space between the star and the writing *

Just a reminder you can watch the thread by clicking on ‘watch this thread’ at the top of the first message. It’s much easier for everyone than so many place marking every time which can use up a fair chunk of each thread to scroll through Thanks

Here’s Barbarara’s instructions from last year on doing clicky links:

Open double square brackets
No space
Paste link
Space
Name of link
No space
Close double square brackets

Like this
[[www.amazingbargains.com bargain ]] but with no space after/before the brackets.
If I do it again without the extra spaces only the word bargain will appear in blue

For more links etc see message 2

If any link doesn’t work or you want to add something please let me know by @ing me Thanks

Really good variety of wooden role play food sets at verbaudet 20% off plus £10 off £60 - might be better offers if you search.

Brashopper · 06/10/2020 21:58

@Merriwicks, I bought that Lavazza Milk Frother from John Lewis last year, too.

I think I paid either £17 or £19 for it - the price kept dropping, then going up, back down and up again. I think they must have been price matching.

I use it almost every day.

This is the exactly the same thing paired with a coffee machine.

I also considered buying this which was £39 at the time and which will go in the dishwasher (apart from the base.)

I was looking for one last year and apparently they had them in Primark but when I went in they'd sold out, has anyone seen any of those metal scalp massagers that look a bit like a spider please? Prefer to purchase from a shop rather than eBay/Amazon if possible.

myhobbyisouting · 06/10/2020 22:13

Primark did have them last year for £1 - tiger may do them?

PinkDaydreams · 06/10/2020 22:15

IggyAce · 06/10/2020 22:15

@Clevererthanyou happy to know I’ve helped out.

Merriwicks · 06/10/2020 22:17

@brashopper, thanks for that tip, i will watch it for a while to see what happens! Coffee machine looks good as well. Do you make coffee and then add milk from frother for latte. I am clueless sorry. I dont even like tea! Blush

Merriwicks · 06/10/2020 22:18

TheWildWoods · 06/10/2020 22:20

@Shrillharridan it was a couple of years ago but WHSmiths own brand drawing pencils, my set were amazing and lasted a while.
Staedtler colour pencils are good too, the colour transfer is nice and goes well on a variety of mediums, they were on offer in asda for £3.50 or something like that last week.

Merriwicks · 06/10/2020 22:21

@needmoretea ans @pinkdreams thanks for the feedback, it has be sold to me. I will watch for deals! Thanks for the tip as i would have ploughed ahead and bought it

Chocolateteabag · 06/10/2020 22:23

@Merriwicks - you could get your DH a small stove top coffee maker like this one - to then have a proper latte
We have a frother from Aldi (c.£18 - in the kitchen events) and have used it with our stove top pot at least twice a day since March

A "3 cup" one would be good for one latte, 6 cup makes enough coffee to make two lattes

sorryiasked · 06/10/2020 22:24

@Merriwicks Aldi have craft sets in including criss/long stitch.
Also LOL stuff

@Purpleheadgirl

Does anyone know anything about 3d printers.......is there a cheap one.....is there a good one....and can they be the same one please? :)
*@Purpleheadgirl* Someone asked almost the same question last year!

DH has a Creality Ender 3 3D printer, now almost 3 years old. It's the cheapest, reliable 3D printer around. DH works in IT, so did a LOT of research before buying. DBIL (IT teacher) was so impressed/green eyed he got himself one almost 2 years ago.

It is about £200, with various upgraded models costing up to £300. Available on Amazon and eBay.

It takes spools of filament that are easily available on both sites too. These are a type of plastic that is melted, actong like an ink cartridge. Each 1kg spool costs roughly £18 for a standard material (PLA) or more expensive for special effects (glow in the dark, rainbow, metal, silk, carbon fibre).

It can print objects up to 20x20x20cm.

It will take some playing with/fine tuning, but there are support forums to help. The biggest issue was that it arrives flat packed, and you have to completely build it. It took three evenings, and DH followed the step by step video guide on how to build it on YouTube. I think it was by "Tomb of the 3D printer"

It is an honestly amazing thing. DH has printed furniture and houses for DD's Playmobil people, a propelling marble run, fancy plant pots and treasure chests.

Also, the best bit is that I am NEVER stick for presents for DH, there are always new filaments to try!

@IveBeenGood, I've a set of Carol Vorderman books about coding which you can have if you're interested? I'd just need to check they're in a decent enough condition for you to give as a gift as while they've not been used, they've been sat round the house. Happy to send you a pic in the morning and post it you if you want it. It's a set of 3 in a slip case.

Purpleheadgirl · 06/10/2020 22:44

@Vebrithien thanks very much for the info, really helpful:)

french press

For PP who requested it.

Wtfdidwedo · 06/10/2020 23:16

@UggyPow I really enjoyed William Nicholson's fantasy books at that age, the Wind on Fire trilogy and Noble Warriors trilogy. The Paul Stewart/Chris Riddell ones are also amazing but may be a bit young for getting into as a teen.

For anyone looking for coding/gadget type gifts, TK Maxx had a Wowwee MIP robot which was £30 RRP £130 allegedly, and a few other small electronic sets that looked decent for about 8+.

UggyPow · 06/10/2020 23:17

@Puffalicious & others - thanks I’ll sneak in his room tomorrow & work out if there are any we don’t have - he reads a lot 😁
