Here we go!

I've got a busy day tomorrow, so I'm starting this now, ready for when it's needed.

'Them' being reusable pads.

I hadn't thought about fb fluffy. Just had a quick look and there's none in our area the ones put aside look ok but are still £3 each so a similar price to branded ones.

FireflyGirl · 20/09/2020 09:56

Congratulations Fluffy. I love finished cross stitch, I love the feel of it!

Wreck I have been using them since last year, and find them really comfortable. I bought mine from Cheeky Wipes, which is one of the more well known brands. They have free delivery at the moment, and a decent clearance section. I only have light periods, so use a mix of panty liners for light flow which are £2.40, and day pads for heavier days, which are £3.50.

It's a big outlay at first, especially for the pants which she'll grow out of (and I probably wouldn't bother with those for that reason), but worth it long term. You could maybe start with a few of the panty liners and build up from there if she gets on with them?

Testing turned into a bit of a farce. DH drove the 45 minutes there, only to be told that after you register you need to wait for a QR code, and if you don't get a code you can't get a test. So, we're trying again today. FFS.

DH is trying to see if he can get a nearer appointment through work (with him being NHS, he's not supposed to work* if there's a potential case in the house until they've been tested, so are supposed to get priority tests).

*I say 'not supposed to' because he's been working entirely from home. Unless Covid has mutated to transmit by telephone, he's not a risk to anyone.

DS had a bad night, though. I had to sit with him to get him to sleep last night, then he woke up coughing and very upset with himself at 3.45. Finally went back to sleep an hour later after we calmed him and bribed him into taking some calpol. DH sat with him while he settled, but obviously I was wide awake by then! I got back over about 6. His cough is worse today, definitely croupy but we've decided to err on the side of caution and isolate. Luckily I ordered lots of chocolate in the Morrisons shop that came this morning. Think I'm going to need it...

WreckTangled · 20/09/2020 10:00

Thanks fire good point about the pants she will be growing rapidly over the next couple of years.

The testing situation is ridiculous I think our trust are testing workers and family members if necessary but I haven't read more than the headline on the emails...

NerosFiddle · 20/09/2020 12:18

Here, if you are a key worker you get priority when booking a test. Well, you're supposed to anyway.

I spent this morning organising the month of December. I do an advent calendar of activities but it's been far harder to do this year with not knowing if we'll be able to go out. I'll be honest and say it's a lot of baking and watching films.

WreckTangled · 20/09/2020 12:22

Neros here you are too I think. It asks you if you're a key worker and then asks what line of work you're in but there's still no tests available.

NerosFiddle · 20/09/2020 12:27

Wreck if it wasn't so serious it would be a joke. Last week people from here were being sent to Wales and Scotland as that was the nearest place with tests available. I think it's a lot Breyer now though.

Apparently in Italy they have results in 30 minutes. I don't know how accurate they are but the ones here are only 70% too. But if we had that with that kind of turn around people wouldn't need to be off school/work.

pussycatinboots · 20/09/2020 13:26

Wreck it's horrible being your DDs age. I knew nothing about periods and thought I was going to die Shock anyway, after being told off Hmm I was handed some oblong Dr Whites (Mrs or why might remember them) 🤨🤢🤬
If you know someone who can sew/has a sewing machine, you could have a bash at making some - you just need a sample one to use as a template.

Firefly I hope DS is feeling better.

Fluffy I want to go shopping in your toy shop Grin that rocking horse has my name on it!

WreckTangled · 20/09/2020 13:38

I just bought some from cheeky wipes hopefully she likes them. She's so young and because there's only four girls in her year at school she's way ahead of all the others in terms of physical development.

Neros I read that about Italy too. Our country is an embarrassment.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 20/09/2020 13:50

Hello y'all .

I'm reading all the news about The Second Wave ( where I work has a really high rate ) there will be some changes at work, I'm just girding myself to plough through it all.

DD is getting ready for University , she's been muttering about her laptop so we've ordered a new one for her ( my parents gave both my DC money when they started University so this covers it)
And a new bag . Of course .

She's quite stressed about what a shit year it's been but even though I try to reassure her that every student is in the same boat , she's not convinced . It's partly nerves (understandable) and partly things outside of her control. Outside of everyones control.

DS is a more meh go to campus/ study at home . No odds to me type .

Universities want their students to feel safe ,secure and able to learn so they will facilitate this .

Oh and I got an NHS Goody Box - teabags , biscuits, crisps type . Very nice thought and well appreciated .

Friday is the next Rudolph Day .Xmas Grin

WreckTangled · 20/09/2020 13:55

70 we got thank you bags from our trust. Two double deckers, a reusable water bottle, packet of popcorn, tic tacs, nivea cream and Vaseline tin all in a cotton shopping bag. Was very much appreciated.

NoWordForFluffy · 20/09/2020 14:09

DH should get priority testing too (as us, as family), as he's a key worker. Thankfully we've not had to test the system.

Boots, would you be a gentle rocker, or go for your life?! 😂😂

Firefly, what a palaver. Good luck today. DD was croup-prone too. She's been OK recently though, touch wood. We're all taking vitamins, adults on D and C and the kids have a multivitamin. Hopefully that helps. The vitamins are a Covid-thing!

70, sounds tough-going for you. Good luck!

Bob Champion on Aldiniti

I am old enough to remember them Xmas Shock

Bob was recovering from cancer wasn't he and the horse had health problems too . Together on paper it shouldn't have worked , but it did .

I'm going to Google the date ...............1981 they won The National (I am older than I thought !)

Thanks Fluffy once DD gets to her University she'll be fine . It's what she's been working for and it's suddenly real .
Once I get to work and find the maze of where I can/cannot go I'll be fine too Xmas Grin

NoWordForFluffy · 20/09/2020 15:13

I got one hell of a girthy parsnip today! 😂

Plus loads of raspberries, a couple of handfuls of blackberries and two (2) strawberries! I'll be jamming later!

OP posts:
FireflyGirl · 20/09/2020 15:32

Not been able to get booked in anywhere online (unless I want to travel 70-odd miles Hmm) and DH hasn't had a response to his request. I've managed to order a kit for delivery tomorrow, but I am incredibly pissed off, as I've had to cancel my swimming session on Tuesday as well now, and a planned meet-up with my friends for the first time since February.

I'm like a bear with a sore head, though, as swimming helps ease the pain in my bump, and the grumpiness is not helped by little sleep and pregnancy hormones.

Thankfully DS is doing much better. Lot less coughing, and much chirpier than yesterday - he's actually playing outside at the moment. His voice has changed with his cold, though, which is very strange.

NoWordForFluffy · 20/09/2020 19:26

What an utter pain in the arse, Firefly. I hope you get sorted soon.

I've made jam with our fruit and we're planning a batch of chilli jam made with our birds eye chillies combined with our frozen green jalapeños from last year. Might sort Covid out if it's as hot as I think it may be!

Fire I'm sorry you're having a shit time it's rest not fair I really feel for you, I felt sick with the stress of the whole test thing last week.

MarshmallowManiac · 20/09/2020 19:59

Evening everyone.
Spent a few hours today at Mote Park, such a lovely place, sat for a while beside the lake.

Good luck with the tests Firefly

Great haul Fluffy

FireflyGirl · 20/09/2020 20:43

Finally had a response from DH's work, and we've a test booked at 10am tomorrow, 20 mins away. Should get the results within 48 hours, hopefully.

DH is starting with DS's cold, though, and keeps sniffling. He'll be sleeping in the spare room tonight if he's not careful Wink I, on the other hand, seem to be a picture of health!

I haven't enough Birdseye chillis for jam, Fluffy, and I don't think many people would fancy it made with scotch bonnets or nagas Grin Besides, I like those in my curries! I've randomly got a few raspberries on my summer canes, but I want to get some autumn fruiting for the allotment as it'd be lovely to have a supply of fresh homegrown raspberries in September.

NoWordForFluffy · 20/09/2020 21:50

We've used Scotch Bonnet in chilli jam before. We wouldn't just use SB though, as it's not meant to be rocket fuel! 😂😂

The BE chillies in that quantity should give it a nice kick, without needing the fire brigade on standby.

I'm glad you've sorted a test. That's a relief.

Tonight has been a framing night! They look good, though the mounts take a bit too much off each picture. I'm wondering if my tape measure was out a bit. 🤷‍♀️ Ah well, nothing I can do now!

We also framed a Christmas one from last year, which has been sitting round for a year waiting!
