Morning. Welcome to our new thread.

We maybe have rain today. I really hope we do! I have no ides when we last had it.

I'm baking with the kids today plus potting some plants on. Exciting. No idea where they'll go, mind you!

Only 2 days left of furlough. Yaaay for the financial side and booooo otherwise! 😂

Mrs I thought Bob might need your Mums house soon to run away to WinkGrin

Mrsmadevans · 11/05/2020 18:58

Have sorted the washing machine thank God , have put a wash on up there and a wash in Mum's , Bob was very grateful , love him. It took a lot of cleaning out of the pipes and the seal and the drum and the drawer for the powder to go in . Anyway it is going now thank God! Grin

Mrsmadevans · 11/05/2020 19:03

I think our Minister has got the right idea though IE opening tips, garden centres & Libraries. Not allowed to go gadding about though , no visiting a person of choice for us Grin Not allowed to travel as far as we want Hmm Cue everybody hitting the roads l expectHmm
What do you think Crazy & Most well really, l suppose what does everyone think? .

pussycatinboots · 11/05/2020 19:21

Mrs We won't be going much further than we have been tbh. I don't feel happy about the additional risk for v little gain at the mo - let others dip their toes in the water first and see what happens to the figures in a couple of weeks (VE day BH + 2 wks).
DH is at hosp tomorrow for a scan, but it's walkable so he's already said to drop him off and he'll walk home.
I see BJ is back to his normal bumbling scruffy self tonight.

Mrsmadevans · 11/05/2020 19:37

Yes Poor Bob may need to lie low bless him Boot Grin
Totally agree with you re the not changing much in our everyday lives , we are going to do this too. Except for going to our local Tesco where they are extremely good bless them, then we will be self isolating just going to see to Mum & Bob, still .

Mrsmadevans · 11/05/2020 19:38

Dh isn't worried about going to the scan is he, hope not Flowers

WreckTangled · 11/05/2020 19:39

We won't be going off anywhere or meeting 'one person' for exercise. I can see how that would be good for two separate people who both live alone but I'm seeing lots of people on fb planning to play golf with a friend etc. It's a disaster waiting to happen. I can't see any end in sight to this right now.

There's some care homes near work that have got awful outbreaks Sad

pussycatinboots · 11/05/2020 19:53

Mrs Don't think so - he's had it before, so knows what's coming.

Wreck Do you think the care home outbreaks are why the figures are staying high? You'd think after 6+ wks the numbers would have dropped by lots more by now.

WreckTangled · 11/05/2020 20:15

Yes I think so. For now anyway.

Interestingly the neuro team have seen a reduction in strokes too.

pussycatinboots · 11/05/2020 20:43

One bit of good news, then.

NoWordForFluffy · 11/05/2020 20:52

That is interesting, Wreck as CV-19 looks like it can cause strokes in some patients.

If we'd had care homes in from the start we'd have had HIDEOUS daily figures a few weeks ago. It's like it's deliberate to only include them when the numbers were already high and so the daily figures weren't sitting at 1,500 a day.

We might go to see DH's family in the garden. We already do their shopping as MiL is shielding and talk at distance on the drive. So talking at distance in the garden isn't much different.

Well done for fixing the washer, Mrs. Phew! Not quite so well done on bickering but a saint would argue with your mother!

Ah, 10! What does she want, Wreck?

Most I hope you receive some news soon. Can you call the hospital for an update?

I had a call from my nephew earlier - he called specifically so he could explain why his brother and sister are the worst (for context, he's 10, they are 18 months and almost 3 🙄). His list of grievances included 'X (brother) watches everything I do and Y (sister) sings the songs from my game' 😂
If the bickering you're coping with was anything like that conversation fluffy and woolly you have my sympathy!

Love the idea of turning 10 being the big one - oh puss 😂

Thank you MrsMad. I had a very short and to the point "sorry" this morning followed by him doing a load of chores and buying me a few treats when he did the food shop so he's forgiven for now

I think the Irish plan is probably the better one, purely because it seems (on the face of it anyway) to be methodical and thought out.
Ours is ok, cautious which I think is needed but BJ was so vague yesterday he may as well have said 'as things improve, we will start to get back to normal' and left it at that 🙄

I also don't trust the numbers at all. Here they were refusing to test people unless they were ill enough to be admitted to hospital. Now they've started counting care homes but still don't include mild cases or community deaths - the real numbers are so much higher I think.

My headache became a migraine so I've wasted most of today by taking meds then trying to sleep.

WreckTangled · 11/05/2020 21:17

Crazy that's so sweet Grin

Fluffy it's strange because if you had a stroke you would surely not avoid calling 999 so it can't be that people just aren't presenting. Is it just because all of these people have been staying in and not doing anything? Who knows. There's going to be a lot of interesting studies to come out of this I think.

Dd has asked for the hobbit and LOTR books so I've got those. She mentioned Harry Potter audio books but they're £400 so that a no...Grin if she could she'd have an iPad/phone/laptop but that's a no too. Not sure what else I might get her an H&M voucher as she can spend that online, some bits from lush and make a sweet/chocolate hamper. She at that in between age where she's too young for what she wants but too old for thing she aimed at her age really.

Themostwonderfultimeoftheyear · 11/05/2020 21:21

So in the end I had to email my dad and my grandmother is now staying with them. Grandfather still in hospital but has rallied and they are talking discharge plans so I'm hoping he will be out soon. He wants to spend his last weeks at home and will hate being in hospital.

Nothing much else to report here other than I got one of those bath holder things from a neighbour so enjoyed watching Poirot in the bath Grin

Themostwonderfultimeoftheyear · 11/05/2020 21:22

Wreck could you buy her 7 audible credits (£7.99 each) and then she could use those to get the Harry Potter audio books?

Thanks fluffy that's an amazing price. We are considering it but just remembered dd doesn't have a CD player. I suppose we could pick up one cheap though.

Morning! It's rained here a bit this morning. Nothing to write home about though!

Wreck, something like this player looks good as it plays MP3s too. I've not looked to see alternatives or price comparisons elsewhere though.

Most, I'm glad you've had encouraging news, even if you had to ask your dad in the end.

Morning everyone 😀
Cold here 🥶
The 'easing" of lockdown looks To be a total shambles. I am so glad we are not following the Govts 50 page document & doing our own thing. It seems the Govt are just useless . Hey ho 🙄 we will just be continuing to do what we have the last 8 weeks with the only change a bit of local Tesco shopping thrown in because l have discovered how brilliant they are. There was an excellent documentary on BBC Wales last night filmed in the Royal Gwent ITU by the Staff. On there the Consultant said they expect a rise in virus cases in July and October. They seemed to make a hell of a lot of sense. If you can see it l would thoroughly recommend you watch it . Very interesting and very caring. The ITU staff are amazing. My local Tesco staff are amazing. Day in day out doing their bit for us . For crap pay and no clapping on a Thursday. Bless them all.
Bit philosophical this morning. Am totally fed up with this crap Govt. I am sure l am not the only person to feel like this .

FireflyGirl · 12/05/2020 09:02

You're absolutely not, MrsM.

Wtf is 'stay alert' supposed to mean?? It's not like we can see it coming and anti-bac it!!

It's also interesting to read foreign press about the situation in the UK - a lot of the reality of CV is being suppressed by our media.

New York Times article on the situation in Birmingham, it's quite a harrowing read.

The government guidance says parents will not be penalised for not sending their kids back to school. The parents I have spoken to have no intention of sending them back if schools reopen next month.
