Anyone else cheering themselves up by Christmas shopping?

Or am I alone in this? :) Thought I may find a kindred spirit in the Christmas topic.

It all started with the book people sale, The bargains were too good to resist, So I bought a few bits and pieces to put away for Christmas.

This cheered me up no end, So I then bought £20 worth of stocking fillers from Rex London.

I may have added a couple of bits to my tesco order to put in the 'Save for Christmas' box (Jar of mincemeat and 2 boxes of toffifee)

I think I'll go and read my Christmas chronicles book now.

I know this is in the Xmas section but this is genuinely the last thing on my mind.

@iwantavuvezela I would imagine it would be the last thing on the vast majority of minds at the moment.
That is why I posted in this section and mentioned the fact that I posted in this section in my opening line.

I'm not doing any shopping. I can't afford to spend money on anything with the future so unpredictable.

I bloody love Christmas and everything about it, but this year we might not all have jobs by then.

@iwantavuvezela funnily enough I was thinking of starting Christmas shopping too! I normally wouldn't think about it until at least September but I was thinking if I nailed it during lockdown I can chill out and enjoy Christmas! I have quite a lot of people to buy for. Thanks for the Book People tip!

The book people sale was just too good to pass up. 39 books for £11 all put away for DD’s Christmas. That being said I’ve been putting away a few bits and pieces every few weeks since January.

totally get that @kilisibird...Our financial future is also uncertain and if what I've just bought is all the kids end up getting, I'll be okay with that.
I wonder if that's why I did it to be honest.

Sorry movingonup - there’s just so much going on at the moment for me that my genuine instinctive response was no. I can barely think beyond a day ( Covid, terminally ill DH) it’s hard for me to even think that far ahead. But I realise that is me and where I am - your thread just popped up on the active list. However if it brings you joy then go for it -

It really has cheered me up and made me feel I'm in control of 'something'....When so much is uncertain.

I’m not Christmas shopping right now but I am thinking a lot about Christmas just because I love Christmas and it makes me happy!! So planning in my head for sure, as hopefully life will be a bit more normal by then.

It probably isn't a great plan to ask delivery people to bring you Christmas items during a pandemic, 9 months before Christmas, so no.

I love Christmas as much as the next person but think of the poor delivery people who have to risk their lives (and others) to get your parcels to you, when it's really not essential (Sorry to be a Debbie Downer).

@MrsEricBana All items were added on to orders I was making anyway, Tesco for food and Rex and The book people for home education supplies.
I'm avoiding non-essential ordering at the moment but I don't see a problem with adding items to the order iyswim.

Nope, I am also a Christmas lover but while I am happily writing a mental list I have no intention of ordering anything.

Its totally unfair on the warehouse workers. But at the same time I do get that companies need income.

No but I'm planning in my head my Christmas market trip. I might book the hotel. I love Christmas too.

Well we have a few birthdays before Christmas and myself and dd have been online today and ordered a few things. Master of Malt have the Game of Thrones whiskeys down in price plus we may have ordered a shed load of sweet stuff for Easter.

@Legoandloldolls ooh where are you thinking of going? Are you worried at all that there may still be travel restrictions?

We usually go away for a Christmas market break at the start of December but had decided to forgo it this year and go away at Easter instead, So if things are back to a relative normal by December then we may well do a wee break away.

39 books for 11 quid?! Bloody hell you did well. I usually start at midsummer because i think oh 6 months till Christmas. Although Im going to check out the book people now!

Currently on MAT leave and returning to work when all this blows over... so trying to get my shopping in so I can enjoy free time with my DD on weekends once back at work!

Wish I could pre order my food shop and get that out of the way too

That’s a really good idea tbh- I love Christmas and perhaps focusing on something positive in the future will help me feel a little brighter.
I got great bargains in the book people sale recently but they were for me (Harry Potter cd set- 50 hours!- for £15) and schooling at home...
I’m sure Emma Bridgewater are doing a mug offer just now...

I'm surprised that actually no, I'm not prepping for christmas. What this experience is telling me is how happy we all are with just what we have. I certainly think our lives will be much more simplified from now on. I'm really enjoying just being in the moment. Cant look forward (because we have no idea when this will be over), don't ever look back, so just totally focused on today. It's lovely
