Right I’m up! I’m about to brave Tesco...wish me luck!

Anyone else food shopping at this ungodly hour and regretting it already?

Parked outside our local greengrocers sipping a cappucino, chris rea on radio waiting for them to open. Xmas Grin
Carpark filling up fast. Hoping to beat the rush!

Ain't that the Truth NaughtyLittleElf Xmas Grin

  • I don't want to freeze fresh veg.
  • like to pick my own food and not have to worry about substitution or sub par/end date food arriving for an important occasion.
  • We're catering for more than twice the usual amount of people for two separate days, we want nice, fresh, recently delivered fruit and veg.
  • We did the long date stuff shop last week
. - It will be rammed near me all day, whichever direction you drive there will be queues.
  • Me/my dad spent yesterday afternoon prepping what we can prep for boxing day and then will do prep for tomorrow this afternoon.
  • It was the only time I had childcare for my excited 3yo who I didn't want to take with us/had to go collect a (massive) present for so couldn't have fit him, the car chair/food shop/present in the car anyway without doing multiple journeys
  • I've also got loads of things to do aswell. and a husband working shifts.

Any of these reasons are ok, but actually I quite enjoy the excitement of going out at a not usual time, with a list and hoping for the best

Merry Christmas Xmas Grin

Totally agree @NaughtyLittleElf. We are hosting on Boxing Day for 15 so if I’d have gone shopping any earlier I’d have had a heaving fridge and freezer for days which just doesn’t work in my smallish kitchen!

Anyway don’t know why I’m justifying myself, if I want to go shopping at the crack of dawn in the pitch black with no make up on and hair that made me look like a Christmas yeti then I will!!! 😬

I got back at 8am after going to Booths and Tesco. They were both nice and calm. Probably the calm before the storm, I imagine!

I popped to Sainsbury's last night before closing for a couple of bits I forgot and I was shocked how bare the shelves were! Not a single tin of quality street to be had, I bought one last week but then used it as an emergency gift so will be in trouble now with the DC!

I've been to the butchers, cheese shop and nipped into M&S for a trifle, home now with a cup of tea, the rest is coming in an hour or so in an Ocado van.

The nearest car park to M&S was getting busy at 7:30, no big queues to collect orders from what I saw but about 6 maybe waiting, the cafe was busy and lots of people doing a big shop.

Twice a year my glass back comes into its own: getting sun beds on holiday and the Xmas food shop.

This morning I was up at 5am (my usual time), and in Tesco by 0530. All my shopping is done, and I’ve already peeled the veg for tomorrow! Now I can relax and enjoy a leisurely day before the madness of tomorrow. Bliss.

I queued to get into Waitrose front door at 7am, then did the market and went for a run. Home by 8.15 #smashingit

Laughing at the PP who asked why you don’t just leave it till the 24th. Yep, let’s all do that next year. The entire country. Imagine how peaceful your shop is then!

And, no. Not all people do have a freezer which can accommodate a family roast Confused. Plus, frozen fresh veg are rancid.

I did click and collect this year which was a breeze but it’s always a bit of a risk with substitutions. I can see why people either want or need to go themselves to get the fresh items. Not sure why some find that so difficult to understand.

Shhhh!! You’re letting the secret out Wink Grin

I didn't think people did this, but there was a big queue at 8am where I work. Good time to go as shelves are freshly stocked!
