Right I’m up! I’m about to brave Tesco...wish me luck!

Anyone else food shopping at this ungodly hour and regretting it already?

Blimey. I just did Aldi with my 84 year old mother and it was fine. Plenty of parking, no huge queues.

ThatsMySantaHisBeardIsSoFluffy · 23/12/2019 12:07

I'm going to Tesco at 6am tomorrow as we're away until tonight. I don't need too much, so hopefully it won't be too traumatic (and I have a shopping list on my phone!).

I'm collecting my Booths' order tomorrow, so doing Tesco on the way.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 23/12/2019 12:10

Thanks for your help @Egghead68. It sounds delish. Hmmm the only issue is that we are not much of a family of pudding eaters generally. I can imagine ending up eating it all on my own...Blush.

If I find one in passing, I might just buy one though Wink.

Anyone tempted to brave the Christmas Eve reduced items bun-fight??? Not sure I'm sharp-elbowed enough but... it's tempting.

ChiaraRimini · 23/12/2019 12:23

I went to Waitrose this morning, due to illness didn't get up early and made it there by 10am. It was fine-like a fairly busy Saturday. Got everything now, just hoping I am well enough to eat it (someone else is cooking!)

loutypips · 23/12/2019 12:24

Had mine delivered from Morrison's, first time I've ordered from them and there were no substitutes. I'm impressed!

Baaaahhhhh · 23/12/2019 12:30

I was at Waitrose at 8.30am getting my turkey etc, the car park and shop were busy, but not horribly so. Most people just getting turkeys and last minute odd and bits, hardly anyone getting a full shop in, and shelves full of stuff.

Vinorosso74 · 23/12/2019 13:42

I might pop into Waitrose later tomorrow-it's only a 5 minute walk. Best check their closing time......

slipperywhensparticus · 23/12/2019 14:03

I went at ten it was bedlam I'm tired and I've got to go out again at five....I dont want to!

ShirleyPhallus · 23/12/2019 14:07

I went to Sainsburys at 11am and it was absolutely fine, not particularly busy, like a standard Sunday. No queue for the car park, only one basket of shopping in the queue before us, no empty shelves. Got a turkey and a joint of beef no dramas

kingkuta · 23/12/2019 14:22

Wow you lot are crazy, 5AM? Madness Xmas Shock

I went to Lidl around midday and got a full shop of everything I needed so all sorted. Some lovely cheeses and party food bits as well. I've ordered my meat and starters from M&S to pick up tomorrow but could have got turkey crown/gammon/rib of beef/goose/duck no problem from lidl

bagginses · 23/12/2019 14:28

I'm picking up my meat tomorrow morning at 6am. Needed to do it before DH goes to work as I didn't fancy braving it later. ZZzzzzzzz

Xmasbaby11 · 23/12/2019 14:30

I'm not a morning person so this sounds nuts to me! I'm going at 8pm tonight. Not got a lot to get though.

SweetPeaPods · 23/12/2019 14:39

I was at Asda for 7.30. A fair few folk in but much better than M&S yesterday morning! It got busier as I left but the staff were very quick at replenishing the shelves.
Just popped into Aldi and I didn’t even need to queue, guessing everyone went first thing.

DieHardISaChristmasFilm · 23/12/2019 14:44

Sainsbury's for 9am, was bedlam. Got the last sprouts but it was a close call

Murinae · 23/12/2019 14:53

We are flying back this afternoon as planning on going on the way back from the airport at 10pm. Hopefully there is still some stuff left! I only need potatoes, carrots, broccoli, milk and bread so hopefully will be ok. If not I’ll brave the shops tomorrow though we have Le Mis tickets for tomorrow afternoon.

notanurse2017 · 23/12/2019 15:06

Had my ocado delivery today. Popped into M and S for some desserts for boxing day but so much of the fresh food seems to have xmas day as it's sell by date.

Khione · 23/12/2019 15:34

I went to Asda about half one this afternoon, They were monitoring a single queue around the shop. Must have been about 50 people queuing. I use scan and go, I find it easier at the best of times as no queuing at all but today it was amazingly wonderful. So few people use it so of 6 dedicated tills there were only 2 in use and I got straight out.

Much much better than queuing for at least half an hour.

maddy68 · 23/12/2019 15:43

I went at 10. It's was fine

KatherineJaneway · 23/12/2019 15:56

Waitrose delivery was late, guy was very apologetic and said he couldn't get the van out of the car park as it was rammed. Then went to Tesco for the last few bits, managed to get a small, fresh turkey crown so pleased at that as well as lots of fresh bread. Bring on Christmas Xmas Grin

eurochick · 23/12/2019 16:56

We went to Waitrose mid afternoon. Parked right outside the door. It was fairly busy but I've seen worse on an ordinary Saturday. We got everything we wanted bar a Yule log - they had sold out of those and Christmas puddings! So we bought ingredients and will make one tomorrow. I normally prefer home made over shop bought anyway but as I'm still feeling the after effects of flu earlier this month, I thought I'd buy one to make my life a little easier, but it's no big deal.

Kaykay066 · 23/12/2019 16:58

I was awake at half 6 and at Tesco by 9, did cleaning etc first then popped out for some shopping.
Was fine, best to get it out of the way early

haverhill · 23/12/2019 16:59

Wow 5:30!!
I went to Sainsbury’s at 11; the car park was heaving but oddly the Shop was just moderately busy. Was all done and home in an hour.

BinkySodPlop · 23/12/2019 17:02

Just back from Waitrose. No problems parking, not hugely busy inside, no queue for self-serve (I only had a few fresh bits to get) so in and out in 20 mins! I'm shocked.

MrsWhites · 23/12/2019 18:47

DH went to Asda later on this afternoon for pizza and the baking ingredients I couldn’t get. He had to queue for half an hour to get to a till! Made getting up so early seem more worth it!

I can almost guarantee that Christmas Eve afternoon the supermarkets will be quiet. I admire those who wake up in the early hours to shop, but can’t help thinking you’re all slightly mad Grin
