Right I’m up! I’m about to brave Tesco...wish me luck!

Anyone else food shopping at this ungodly hour and regretting it already?

I live in a town and my nearest " corner shop " is M and S food.
I took the dog a walk for bread and milk yesterday and had to air to get in.
was.sickening to be honest. People were behaving like everything was free throwing whatever in their trolleys.
buy what you need!!!
sorry mini rant there

NC4Now · 23/12/2019 07:40

Nope. I’m having a leisurely brew and waiting for them to bring it to me. I waited up till midnight to get the slot I wanted. My moment of madness was weeks ago!

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 23/12/2019 07:41

I had my Waitrose order delivered bright and early this morning.

Agree about M&S. We were in there briefly yesterday, picking up stuff for a family afternoon tea. It was madness. The greed dismays me.

Egghead68 · 23/12/2019 07:47

I’m off now to try to score an M&S sticky toffee pudding trifle.

ritzbiscuits · 23/12/2019 07:50

Just back having got there at 7am. Very quiet, but Aldi on the same complex doesn't open until 8am, so I've missed the crowds!

TitsalinaBumSquash · 23/12/2019 07:58

Invar both an ASDA and Tesco delivery coming today (brain fog booked both!) the actual first,as dinner meal box is coming from another company all together.
ASDA had subbed 3 things (nothing major) and we're out of my Camembert baking wreath but we have ordered enough cheese to feed all the mice in the world so we're good.

There is nothing that will get me in a supermarket before Christmas.

thistimelastweek · 23/12/2019 08:03

I have been to Sainsbury, put away the shopping and made a pot of soup!
Go me!

QueenOfOversharing · 23/12/2019 08:03

I got to M&S for some bits I particularly wanted at 7am. Without a car since some twat smashed my window. So I'm Über-ing it.

Egghead68 · 23/12/2019 08:05

Got the only one in the shop but tipped it on its side accidentally. Might have to eat it myself!

MaryBoBary · 23/12/2019 08:13

Oh god, I'm scared now. We've been away for 4 days so need to do the Christmas shop when we get back this afternoon. Hopefully there will be something left for us to eat Christmas day...

theSnuffster · 23/12/2019 08:13

I've gone on Xmas eve at 6am for the last few years. I really enjoy it... Shopping done, put away, coffee in hand all while it's still dark and everyone else is still in bed!

itsgettingweird · 23/12/2019 08:14

My mum went to the butcher at 5am!

We are going there for Christmas.

She also has my ds and nephew and for the morning and then hospital appointment this evening because her chemo hasn't worked.

She's amazing.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 23/12/2019 08:22

@Egghead68 sounds like a plan!!! Let me know what you think of it, please, as I'm contemplating getting one.

Your mum does indeed sound amazing @itsgettingweird.

@MaryBoBary you may find the shops less busy today and tomorrow, now that the great Christmas exodus has already happened.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 23/12/2019 08:23

I have bought the ingredients to make a tiramisu BUT can't help but think it would have been cheaper to buy a ready-made one. Still, it's DD's favourite pudding, so we will have fun making it!

Peridot1 · 23/12/2019 08:25

I was the sixth car in the car park at 6.30 and by the time M&S opened at 7 the car park was full. I did my shopping and was just queuing at a till when the opened the one next to me and I was first there. All going well till they scanned the alcohol. Outside licensing hours. And nobody could get the system to over ride. Sorted in the end. All done and back home by 7.50.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 23/12/2019 08:34

Was at M&S for 7, just to grab a turkey off the shelf, plus some canapés and fruit. Was first in the checkout queue! - and saw dawn breaking from the top of the car park
Back home again with a coffee by 7.45.
I nearly always go first thing on the 23rd - it didn't seem as busy as usual.

TheFabledSnake · 23/12/2019 08:36

Not me but my partner is currently out and about while I'm in bed with the 4 year old

BiteyShark · 23/12/2019 08:37

Went to morrisons at 6am to get our turkey and veg. Had pre ordered last year but when we saw all the turkeys in the fridge section we decided not to this year.

Very quiet, I had expected it to be busier.

ChipInTheSugar · 23/12/2019 08:40

I went at 6.30 after reading this thread and checking opening hours!

I bought a turkey instead of a turkey crown, ready made roast potatoes that I didn't need, and had a genuine panic attack over buying chicken satays and how much I'd spent.

And I still need milk Confused

Almost wish I'd stayed in bed!

BarbaraofSeville · 23/12/2019 08:43

Why would you? It's open all day haha

But all the shops will be rammed in a couple of hours and you'll struggle to find a parking space so the carpark will be gridlocked as will the aisles in the supermarkets. And stuff will start to run out.

So worth the pain of getting up early to have easy parking, quiet shops and full shelves. But I'm massively grateful that most people still go later on, leaving it quieter first thing.

HalfBloodPrincess · 23/12/2019 08:45

I have an asda shop coming between 8 and 10 and was planning on popping to aldi after to get the missing bits, but I'm in total shock! Received the email receipt - NO missing items and just 1 substituted item (pack of blueberries for bigger pack of blueberries) so I dont have to go!

KittenVsXmastree · 23/12/2019 08:47

I usually got to tesco at 10am on a Monday. It was a bit busier than that at 6am, but not much. Well stocked shelves, nothing missing, but some VERY short shelf lives on some stuff - milk bbe 24 Dec anyone??

eurochick · 23/12/2019 08:48

The thread yesterday about what time you were planning to do your Christmas shop had loads and loads of people saying early this morning. So we will be going this afternoon. We are off to the farm shop to pick up the turkey this morning, then we will have a wander round town while the cleaner is here. We will head to the supermarket this afternoon.

bengalcat · 23/12/2019 08:51

Waitrose delivery coming tomorrow .

Ragwort · 23/12/2019 08:52

No, having the most relaxed Christmas ever, DH & DS away skiing and I am having lunch Christmas lunch with my parents. All they want me to contribute is the brandy butter, I’ve got the ingredients and will make it tomorrow. Grin
I have done the really early trip to Waitrose in the past, but it’s lovely not to have to think about it!
