Not how much have you spent, but how many gifts do you think is enough?

This isn't really a judging thread though. Just general chat really.

I've totted up the gifts and they'll have about 25-30 things to open each, including stuff in their stockings. As my eldest is err an adult now she really should be getting cash or whatever but she was given the choice and still wanted presents so presents it is!

The amount they have this year is less than ever but bizarrely I've spent more than ever before.

No children but my nephews have two each from us, two from my parents and about five from their parents though both have one big present in that each which was £150 plus

Oly4 · 22/12/2019 12:55

About 20 each plus stockings. Get little else from family

AdriannaP · 22/12/2019 12:58

3 from us
Around 7 from relatives
3 from childminder/friends/neighbours

More than enough! DC is 4.

kingkuta · 22/12/2019 14:04

Dd (9) has about 6 gifts in Xmas Eve box but these are mostly edibles and things she needs new slippers, pj's, dressing gown, bath bomb, hot chocolate bomb etc

Xmas day she will have about 20-30 presents from us, about another 10 from both sets of grandparents, at least another 4 from aunties and uncles and probably about 5-10 more from friends of mine. So alot! No wonder she loves Christmas Xmas Grin.

PhantomErik · 22/12/2019 14:23

1 main from Father Christmas
10ish small stocking fillers from FC
10-11 from us
3 from my DParents
1 from Mil
1 from DBro
1 from DSis
1 from Auntie
1 from my DMums friend

Approx 20! Good range of practical & fun presents.

Pumpkinbell · 22/12/2019 14:26

Too many like always don’t know when to stop non of us do! Then the xmas eve box !! Thats before the stocking currently only got an orange for that lol!

anyoldname76 · 22/12/2019 15:35

My children have got 15 present each plus 5 stocking fillers, they get 3 each of my parents, PJ's from my sister's and money off my brother. They get new PJ's on Christmas Eve too.

EmrysAtticus · 22/12/2019 16:31

Just counted and DS has 32 to unwrap on Christmas Day which is just crazy. He has already had and opened 4. He is an only child, only grandchild, only great grandchild and only niece/nephew so is spoilt rotten.

Theroigne · 22/12/2019 16:34

Teenagers:

4 each from us plus stockings
2 or 3 from family
A further 2 or 3 from family over the festive period.

lilmishap · 22/12/2019 16:39

6/7 each plus whatever family give them.
I am worrying this year as it's the first time I've gone for quality not quantity. I suspect 6 year old will grumble despite having a new bike AND a scooter as he would prefer to see half the room piled up with pressies.

Mama1980 · 22/12/2019 16:46

We don't do stockings, so 8 gifts each to unwrap from me, plus they'll get some from extended family.

hiredandsqueak · 22/12/2019 16:56

Dd has ten from us then she has a stocking packed with stuff (not all small and cheap items either and none of it tat) and she will get gifts from her adult siblings besides. I think she has loads anyway.

Freddiemercuarysmoustache · 22/12/2019 17:01

Around 30. I wrap every single thing individually

danadas · 22/12/2019 17:13

I haven't counted yet but probably about 30 each maybe more? I don't put a limit on gift numbers just a rough budget for each.

bookworm14 · 22/12/2019 17:28

DD has 11 stocking presents from Santa, plus five tree presents from us, so 16. She will also get one each from aunts, uncles and grandparents (although MIL usually gets more. I think she will end up with about 25 altogether.

UndertheCedartree · 22/12/2019 17:38

Mine have a stocking with 3 small gifts, a cuddly toy, chocolate coins, socks, satsuma and some other chocolate and sweets.

Under the tree they have a present from me, one from my DP, and 2 from their Dad. And they have a present from my Aunty and DB. As we've had a tough year they also have a present and a selection box plus a game to share from the Salvation Army.

Whatdidisay · 22/12/2019 17:46

Finished wrapping today, they have about 25 each from us, then ones from friends and relatives. Sounds a lot but i had a budget of £125 each and brought everything early in sales.

GreenFieldsofFrance · 22/12/2019 18:13

About 20 each but ranging from annuals up to big presents. Stockings about 10 each but small things like chocolate coins or mail varnish etc. I try to keep it even between them because no doubt one Eagle eye will be secretly counting on the sly...

DukeChatsworth · 22/12/2019 18:34

About 40 this year but I wrap everything individually so some will be small things. Lots of clothes too.

shoebedobedobedobedoo · 23/12/2019 08:22

Was reading this yesterday. Wow.just wow. I thought my DC got a lot (I’ve never counted and we don’t wrap Santa gifts). But this is insane. You all know that we are killing the planet off (yes, even at Christmas) and we’re supposed to be buying less, not more?. Apologies for the Scrouge like text, but I’m genuinely shocked.

kerrynov7 · 23/12/2019 08:33

Oh crikey. Now I feel mean. DD is 6, DS's are 4, we have got them one main present from us, one present for them from siblings and the giant stocking/sack.
They have their birthdays very, very soon after Christmas (unfortunately) and last year they just received too much so we've scaled down.
Under the tree there will also be gifts from relatives who we won't see on the day (think there are another 5 each), and then a few more gifts when we go to GPs in the afternoon.
Actually, now I type it out I think it is plenty xSmile

Howmanysleepsnow · 23/12/2019 08:50

1 from us
1 from each sibling (3)
3 from GP
1 from aunt
8 main from Santa (includes clothes, board game, books)
17 in stocking (8- 10 edible including satsuma and apple, plus pens, smaller books, toiletries etc)
So... 33 (oops!) but not plastic tat unless you count pens/ board game pieces.

SisterSistine · 23/12/2019 08:58

Depends how I wrap mine. 9 year old mostly asked for books. If I wrap them together as a big pile it will look modest, if I do it separately she'll have loads. It happened they asked for quite a few inexpensive things. So although they may end up with a pile of presents there is no real big, stand out main present. Relatives don't do them piles, although my brother overseas worked out how to order from Amazon this year so is making up for lost time a bit.

Lovemusic33 · 23/12/2019 08:58

Just because people have bought lots of gifts it doesn’t mean it’s plastic tat to add to landfill. I have been really careful not to buy plastic tat, the only plastic I have bought is the Lego but that will be passed down to future generations, most of their gifts are books and clothes (which were needed) and I sure others are the same, I think we all think a bit more about what we are buying and where it will end up.
