Not how much have you spent, but how many gifts do you think is enough?

About 6-7 from us, mum will have bought loads for them as well too, plus their other grandparents have got them something small but more expensive that they asked for.

We've got them a couple of "big" parcels each - around the £30 mark, and then it's things like card games, books and the like. My mum I know has bought them a mountain of Playmobil (which they requested) and god knows what else she's put into their piles as well.

WhereverIMayRoam · 21/12/2019 21:41

@ 15 each - a mix of toys, clothes, books, games, hobby stuff, nice things for their bedrooms etc. Admittedly I have a habit of choosing to count multiples as one gift Blush so for example dd has 10 books (she’s a big reader) which is one present in my head.

It’s certainly enough but then so is 1 + stocking or 4 + stocking, it’s just about what’s normal in your family.

Igottastartthinkingbee · 21/12/2019 21:41

All in from us and Santa (inc stockings) mine have 20 presents each. They’ll get 4 more presents each from extended family. My parents have put some money in their savings accounts in lieu of presents this year. I know that makes a lot of sense but it makes me sad that they don’t want the moment of seeing their grandchildren open a present they’ve chosen for them. So there’s nothing from them and my close group of friends have also decided to do no presents. In previous years we’ve all bought for each other’s kids which has ended up being 10 extra presents! So I’m relieved that present fest is over.

sunshinefinally · 21/12/2019 21:42

My children have for Xmas eve

Pjs each, choc coins, small bag of sweets & a big kinder egg (£2 in home bargain!)

For Xmas day they have

14 presents each off us
Then about 4/5 presents off each set of grandparents
Then rest of family and friends 7 more each

Constantbronchitislaryngitis · 21/12/2019 21:44

Twig the wonder kid
I love your style
Mine used to get little from Santa or is and it is slowly getting a bit more and more and I’m sure it’s because I see and hear of what other kids receive which always seems heaps more than us
So now I’m tangled into the whole materialism thing
But at the same time it’s prob about 5 gifts from Santa (mainly dolls and a recorder)
And a few small things
From aunties uncles granmuns prob about 6 more gifts each
They are pretty overwhelmed by that amount
I think if kids got one big gift and a few little ones (like I did) they’d be so grateful
To me it’s overboard !
Both my daughters birthdays are really near Christmas and so they’ve had enough gifts before Christmas arrives
That’s prob the reason I think it’s all too much!

BiddyPop · 21/12/2019 21:46

A stocking with lots of bits.
One present under the tree from us.
A handful of envelopes from extended family on 1 side.
Other side, we’ll see after at another event so nothing from them for 25th.

She will get something else from us for birthday on 26th.

She has already got 1 present because she needed to start using it sooner than expected.

She’ll understand.

BiddyPop · 21/12/2019 21:47

And definitely doesn’t miss out because she got a stonkingly expensive set of kit for a particular sport this autumn once it became obvious that she would need it sooner than later.....

Atalune · 21/12/2019 21:50

Excluding stocking maybe like 10 each. Including stocking which we wrap, it increases significantly.

coconutty101 · 21/12/2019 21:56

My one year old has around 15 presents to unwrap.
However some of them are cheap £1.79 books from Home bargains, so they aren't all expensive presents!

He has a stocking with a few little bits in too.

Spacerader · 21/12/2019 21:56

My ds and dd have a stocking which is just chocolate coins, and a few cheap things (hair accessories etc)

They have approx 20 gifts, a mixture of higher value items, clothes, things to eat and essentials.

They also have a christmas eve box, but there is only ever two new things in it which is new pjs and a bath bomb, the rest is stuff that comes out every christmas to add to their box.

They also get gifts from their dad, grandparents, godmother, aunts and dps family. As well as a secret santa gift that the DC and Dsc do between them.

Every year they have far to much. And every year I say we need to cut back and every year i dont. However, i am much better at not buying tat and stuff they wont use

mrssoap · 21/12/2019 22:00

From just me they have about 5 each. I definitely haven't gone over the top, they are things I know they will love though

nikiti · 21/12/2019 22:01

I think 3 are good!

ItFigures · 21/12/2019 22:04

About 10 from us and she will get a shit tonne from family. She’s a toddler so the value is low and there are books included.

Flapjackninja · 21/12/2019 22:08

DD16 has got 4 things from me to unwrap but her main present if money. It's a struggle fighting the guilt and urge to buy more stuff so it looks like she has more. I know she won't be bothered but I do feel guilty.

longhaulstress · 21/12/2019 22:08

Around 6 things in their stockings. Older dcs (teens) have got around 8 things to open under tree younger dd has 12 as hers cost so much less.

TheGlaikitRambler · 21/12/2019 22:11

About 30. Includes stockings, one large main present (TV/Nintendo switch etc a lot of smaller ones (PJs, Lego, pens, books, perfume etc).

Notso · 21/12/2019 22:11

It depends what they've asked for. This year around 6-8, they've asked for expensive things. In the past it's been more like 20-25.
I still need stocking fillers as I haven't seen anything original this year.

DCIRozHuntley · 21/12/2019 22:12

Mine have 2 each in the morning from us and a further 2 each in the evening at Christmas dinner from my family. They will have around £30 cash each to spend in Smyths, too, from distant family.

Stocking fillers cost around £20 each in total - I know you said not how much spent but to give some context to the items - and contain

Book
Cuddly toy (they collect TY)
Toothbrush
Knickers
Flannel
Small toy (£8ish)
Chocolate coins
Kinder egg
Christmas tree decoration
Nesquik straws

They also get PJs on Christmas Eve.

Figgygal · 21/12/2019 22:12

About 10 each in total
Don't do stockings really they both have a sack to open and there are some little things in that

Cut right back this year

formerbabe · 21/12/2019 22:13

Each DC has

25-30 presents from Santa in stocking...sounds a lot but they are small things...socks, pants, chocolates, hair clips etc

Three main gifts from us under tree...1 big pressie (ie phone, doll house) and two smaller ones...ie board game, smaller toy, clothing.

Two gifts from great aunts
One from a cousin
A couple from their aunty
Dhs work also kindly bought them each a gift
One present each from my best friend

TrashPanda · 21/12/2019 22:20

3 each from us plus stocking from Santa. 5 each from my family, grandparents, aunt & 3 great aunt/uncles. 1 from aunt and at least 5 from grandparents on DP side. Usually 2 or 3 from friends of family, depending who we see.

Dustarr73 · 21/12/2019 22:21

I usually do 1 main present each and a few small ones. But they are getting bigger now,so i usually buy them more clothes that are a bit more expensive.Than buying stuff they wont use.

Also my sons birthday is tomorrow,so he gets a decent present cause nobody else buys for him.

HairyToity · 21/12/2019 22:21

One child 12, the other 9. I don't think 2 year old will notice he has less though. They will then have about 8 each from other people.

Ikeameatballs · 21/12/2019 22:22

I’m not sure how many this year but last year they had 12 each plus stocking fillers.

Stocking fillers here are:
Choc coins
Tubes of sweets
Bouncy ball for ds
Mascara for dd
£10 costa voucher/PS voucher
Novelty socks

Camomila · 21/12/2019 22:23

10 which seems loads! Though 2 are board games for the whole family. We bought 2 things - one from us and one from Father Christmas. The rest are from granny/great granny/uncles/godmother etc. Luckily all the relatives are sensible and don't get loads each!
