Any recommendations for red pens as teacher gifts?

Why? Seems a very odd gift.

Sneezein3s · 16/11/2019 19:58

Celtic is a relatively small company local to me. I can't say I blame them from stopping multiple orders to be honest. They're not some multi conglomerate, items come beautifully wrapped, it all takes time and resources. It feels a bit grabby and un Christmassy to me to multi order and then unleash hushgate on them.
I really don't want to offend anyone but that's just my take as a small business owner myself.

I feel the same, and feel this about some of the other things that are shared here. I don't want to live in a world where only Amazon and Tesco exist, and like to support independent businesses which means buying from them in a way that allows them to succeed, not getting a free/hugely cheap X and then never shopping with them again. I'll hold my hands up and admit I did it with one offer shared here, at least three years ago now, and I felt awful after the event. It's one thing to try a product at a discount if you're genuinely interested, but another entirely to just go after super cheap stuff with.

For the same reason, I have been trying to buy some things in store this year, even if it costs a little more. I do understand that that isn't possible for everyone for either accessibility or budget reasons.

Now I've got all that off my chest, thank you so much to everyone who suggested books or authors on the previous thread, I was so pleased to get so many ideas and hopefully have chosen two that will be well received. Also, to whoever suggested Hairy McClary, I bloody loved those books as a child and still do now! Excellent shout!

@isspacethefinalfrontier
I love stationery gifts, school budgets are dismal atm

Elphaba17 · 16/11/2019 20:21

I had a dispatch email last night for my celtic insoles ordered on Thursday. I placed another order for a pair this morning but it has been cancelled which is fair enough. I still think they're a great company. I bought insoles from them last year when there was a £10 off code (but no free delivery I think as I'm sure the deal wasn't as cheap as this years ) so I hope this doesn't put them off offering codes like this in future. I ordered slippers from them in the summer which are lovely so worth looking at for anyone who wants to still use the voucher.

NoGravyForYou · 16/11/2019 20:25

Yankeecandle.co.uk are doing buy one advent calendar get the other 50% off.

Spam88 · 16/11/2019 20:25

I know there's been a lot of got chocolate chat previously, but can anyone recommend a hot chocolate that looks nice? Very much going style over substance here. It's for someone I just get a token gift for and that will be their only gift. Budget £5.

MrsLem · 16/11/2019 20:27

@Spam88 some people had previously recommended the Charbonnel one. I got it and it's very tasty and in a lovely tin. It was 4.50ish from Waitrose

Someaddedsugar · 16/11/2019 20:30

Would a Good Housekeeping subscription make a good secret santa present for my 65 year old DMIL? I really want to get her something nice this year as she's been so, so generous with her time looking after DS while I'm at work, but £10 isn't really much, and I was thinking that a subscription would be nice for her to have a bit of quiet time for herself. Especially if I bought a bit extra and got some nice bath stuff and a posh box of tea bags for her!

MoonlightBonnet · 16/11/2019 20:35

@eliope I agree. And I thought the same about the Highland hampers thing. Mass ordering with a discount code from a company which is a start up run by young people. Then cancelling orders when you find out it’s a start up run by young people, creating work for a new small business. Then speculating on very thin evidence about whether they’re dodgy on a website that always ranks high on google searches. Could be enough to push a legitimate new company with tight margins under. Not particularly festive.

coffeetofunction · 16/11/2019 20:36

Can anyone recommend a good app to keep track of presents and spending?

Also someone was looking for a discount on a pair of Nike air force, I have a Schuh discount code if that's any good

ArabellaPilkington · 16/11/2019 20:36

@Someaddedsugar - if you sign up to North Face's VIPeak club you get £10 off a £100+ spend. The code is emailed a few minutes after you join

Someaddedsugar · 16/11/2019 20:37

Thanks @ArabellaPilkington - I'll pass that on!

MoonlightBonnet · 16/11/2019 20:39

Dibor have 15% of with the code Thanks15. It works on reduced items. They’re also the cheapest place I’ve found for Christmas stocking holders which hold the weight of a full stocking (from about £8 with the code).

Jessica78 · 16/11/2019 20:41

Just popping on to say thank you to everyone and especially @Reastie for Bargain threads 1-13 (and pre thread - Chips? I think) I am nearly, nearly finished, and I have saved a ridiculous amount of money. Keep up the positive vibes everyone and best wishes to all for a fabulous Christmas! [santa]

NeedMoreTea · 16/11/2019 20:47

@coffeetofunction I started using Gift List this year, and I really like it. You can add photos, it's password protected and you can sync between different phones so DH can see the lists as well. It's also got lots of options for present status e.g idea, bought, shipping, rcvd, wrapped etc. Plus you can also archive the year,so you can look back to see what you bought people the year before (although I've not used that yet). Gone are all my dog eared paper lists!

eitak22 · 16/11/2019 20:50

My local Entertainer had nanoblock kits of a whale, dolphin and bird for £2 something. Might be a good stocking filler, was gutted they had no monkeys as solid be ideal for DH.

gaggiagirl · 16/11/2019 20:53
