Pigs in blankets. How many per person?

TroysMammy · 23/12/2018 10:26

My DM is hosting Christmas lunch but has bought a 12 pack of pigs in blankets for 6 adults and one child. Before I look like a greedy sod and take another 12 pack with me, how many per person should be served?

2-3 of the little ones. I have 6 for Christmas and have 32 pigs in blankets. This is clearly too many but I panicked.

Bubblysqueak · 23/12/2018 14:58

I'm cooking for 12 and am cooking 48 (it was going to be 40 but they were substituted.)
I would rather have too many and then eat them the next day with bubble and squeak than not enough.

driggle · 23/12/2018 14:58

I've bought 24 to share between 2 adults and DC 7. You can never have enough pigs in blankets.

TheRebelHedgehog · 23/12/2018 15:18

You want at least 4 or 5 each so DM has completely underestimated the number required! Another 3 packs to be on safe side IMO

HardAsSnails · 23/12/2018 15:53

Just me and dp eating and having them as our 'meat' as we always enjoy them way more than turkey. I think I've got 24 cocktail sausage sized and 16 chipolata sized ordered. They will do more than one meal.

PonyoPonyo · 23/12/2018 16:02

I've got 36 mini ones for 4 adults. Plus spare chipolatas and streaky bacon in case we need to make more.

Sexnotgender · 23/12/2018 16:04

I’ve got 24 for 4 adults and a teenager. If they don’t all get eaten they’re great cold.

OlderThanAverageforMN · 23/12/2018 16:07

Also 36 mini ones for 2 adults and two teens. There may be some left for supper, but definitely none for the next day.

ElspethFlashman · 23/12/2018 16:07

Is this a British thing I have only just learnt about??!

Reading this like ShockShockShock

And how can I get in on this action? Is it literally just wrap a bit of streaky around a sausie!? How do you cook the sausage through without cremating the rasher?

TheRebelHedgehog · 23/12/2018 16:07

I think most people would expect at least 5 on their plate, others maybe more....

ChoudeBruxelles · 23/12/2018 16:09

I’ve made mine using full size chipolatas- done two per person. My oven is small and I’m going struggle to get more cooked

ErrolTheDragon · 23/12/2018 16:12

The sausage must be a chipolata, not a full sized one. Oven cook.

But we usually do the bacon and chipolatas separately to get properly crispy bacon.

dementedpixie · 23/12/2018 16:16

Yes we wrap streaky bacon round chipolata sausages (ds likes Tesco pork and honey ones) and cook in the oven rather than under the grill

halcyondays · 23/12/2018 16:17

About 4 each

TrashPanda · 23/12/2018 16:23

We do a mixture...some half chipolatas wrapped in streaky bacon, some naked half chipolatas and some streaky bacon just rolled up with no chipolata. For 6 adults and 2 children we probably have 40 pigs in blankets and 30 each of the other two.

Theunreasonableone · 23/12/2018 16:25

I think I’ve bought about 40! We are 5 adults and two children for dinner (DDs would happily eat just pigs in blankets for Christmas dinner). I cook all of them and we have any left over for Boxing Day.

lboogy · 23/12/2018 16:25

We go through 6 each. 3 on a plate and 3 fr snacking post or pre meal depending. I'm amazed ppl only have 2 ! Aren't they tiny? Barely even touch the sides

anniehm · 23/12/2018 16:35

None, far too salty. When did they become a thing, it used to just be chipolatas

Catsandbootsandbootsandcats · 23/12/2018 16:39

I had them as a kid and I'm in my 40s. No idea if my parents had them.

fromtheshires · 23/12/2018 16:46

Pigs in blankets need to be in full supply, 12 would freed just 3 people if I was being stingy with my servings as they are the best bit of the Christmas dinner...

We have 8 people and have got enough bacon and sausages for 40 with another 20 pre made ones in reserve for when everyone snaffles them or for in the evening to go with the buffet.

msmess · 23/12/2018 16:52

50

ChubbyMummy12 · 23/12/2018 16:56

I have 30 for 4 adults and 4 kids but il be going out tomorrow to get another 2 packs cause I could easily at a pack to myself they're the best part of the Christmas dinner!

Ali1cedowntherabbithole · 23/12/2018 17:01

Pigs in blanket science in our house is like the infinite universe. For years I cooked extra so that there were some cold for Boxing Day, yet every year there were none left, however many packs I bought.

I used to buy an expensive wanky turkey too and would watch grown adults put 6 PIB on their plates.

Now I buy a cheaper turkey and hide at least one packet of PIB at the back of the freezer.

UnreasonablyPissedOff · 23/12/2018 17:03

None! They are horrible and have no place on a christmas dinner in our house. I never heard of them until i came to MN.
I also hate sausage meat stuffing!
