Pigs in blankets. How many per person?

My DM is hosting Christmas lunch but has bought a 12 pack of pigs in blankets for 6 adults and one child. Before I look like a greedy sod and take another 12 pack with me, how many per person should be served?

I've got 36 between 3 adults and I'm twitching ! They need to be lots left to go in the bubble and squeak on boxing day breakfast

ChanklyBore · 23/12/2018 21:12

I’ve never eaten a pig in a blanket.

I do them for Christmas dinner sometimes but only recently started to within the last few years. I haven’t bought any this year.

I didn’t realise there was so much love for them!

TheGirlWhoLived · 23/12/2018 21:15

Well this is a turn up for the books! This isn’t obviously where the middle class show their class- not in a mountain of presents but how many pigs in blankets on the table

Grin in answer to your question op- I’m taking another pack to dm’s tomorrow- they have bought long ones and are going to do 2 each.

Oysterbabe · 23/12/2018 21:15

We have 20 for 4 adults and 2 toddlers. MIL barely eats and will have 2 absolute max, probably 1. Kids will have 1 each. I'm a bit nervous and considering another pack. They simply will not fit in the fridge though.

herecomesthsun · 24/12/2018 03:45

They are the main things my kids wanted for Xmas dinner when I asked them Grin

UtterlyUnimaginativeUsername · 24/12/2018 05:12

We've never had them, they're not really a thing in Ireland. But DS saw pigs in blankets flavoured crisps in Aldi and wanted to know what they were (he's 6 and had never heard of them), and once we explained, he obviously wanted to know why we hadn't been eating them every christmas as they're clearly the most delicious thing ever? So I went shopping and bought 12 (for 8 of us, clearly underestimating demand) and DH went shopping (not knowing that I had) and bought 24 (a much more sensible number!). It sounds like between the two of us, despite being total beginners, we might have bought nearly enough...

TwitterQueen1 · 24/12/2018 07:00

You bought 12 for 8 people! Xmas Grin Xmas Grin ROFLMAO
Well done for realising the error of your ways.

I caught a bit of Jamie Oliver pimping his pigs yesterday.... he tucked bits of herbs in before rolling the bacon (don't agree with that - bits would get stuck in your teeth), scraping the bacon beforehand too, to lengthen and flatten it, and deglazing the pan with some runny honey and Worcestershire sauce..... might try that...

Fluffyears · 24/12/2018 12:42

Husband and mil don’t eat them so i’m having them all 😋

UniversallyUnchallenged · 24/12/2018 12:45

We have 72, for 7... someone is going to have to police the ‘extra’ - unless I just eat them slyly in the kitchen 🤫🤫

LiquoricePickle · 24/12/2018 13:00

We have 5 adults and toddler and I'm doing 20 for the adults and 2 without bacon for my son.

MeetOnTheSIedge · 24/12/2018 13:29

There are 5 of us and I have three packs of 16 in the freezer, just pondering whether to defrost 2 or 3 packs.

TheNativityDonkey · 24/12/2018 13:33

As many as you can fit in the oven. They taste just as good cold on boxing day.

bringbacksideburns · 24/12/2018 13:37

Well I only bought 12 for 7.

Didn't realise it was such a huge error!
4 plus per person is bloody ridiculous. You have so much more on the plate. It's not worth stressing over.

TheNativityDonkey · 24/12/2018 13:44

UniversallyUnchallenged - after reading tour post I can relax. I was worried I made way too many. But not looks not!🤣 i thinknim on anpar with you.

TheRebelHedgehog · 24/12/2018 13:55

Well I only bought 12 for 7.

That’s certainly not enough each I’m afraid. They’d be mutiny if I did 12 between 7 guests! - it’s not even 2 each. I would recommend buying some more.

whatswithtodaytoday · 24/12/2018 13:57

My family budgeted for 8 each last year. They all got eaten by the end of dinner, none leftover for sandwiches! There was some bartering.

Murinae · 24/12/2018 14:03

I have three packs of 12 for 4 people!

Sparrow8 · 24/12/2018 14:04

I made mine today and had 52. Half were cooked and have already been eaten! The other half are ready to go into the oven tomorrow. 5 of us for Christmas lunch.

TheRebelHedgehog · 24/12/2018 14:14

Looks like the general consensus is about 8 each which seems reasonable

goose1964 · 24/12/2018 14:32

Fyi pigs in blankets were invented in 1957 ( ignore any Americans who say it was longer, they're referring to sausage rolls ) I can vaguely remember having separate sausage and Avon rolls, s I think they must have started being a household thing in the very late 60s early 70s.

By the way DS1 says the right amount of pibs is all of them

Greensleeves · 24/12/2018 14:34

I'm doing 36 for 5 of us

TroysMammy · 24/12/2018 20:35

After a discussion with my DSis I have taken another 12 pack out of the freezer.

I like the suggestion above of dipping them into baked camembert. If there are any left over of course.
