Everyone always talking about food they love at Christmas.. so I thought I’d be a bah humbug (even though I love christmas) and ask what you hate...
For me it has to be mince pies.....🤢
Christmas pudding and Christmas cake...
Any type of pate...

So let’s go...

Bread sauce
Brandy butter

fromtheshires · 21/12/2018 11:02

What do you make your gravy from then @NotCitrus
I may be missing something but our need to use gravy granules or powder to make the gravy or do you mean gravy with just granules and boiling water with no meat juices / veg water etc.

fromtheshires · 21/12/2018 11:02

You need, not our need

BlackeyedGruesome · 21/12/2018 11:21

make gravy from meat juice veg water, boiled giblets if available.

hate mulled wine, brandy, trifle

EnriqueTheRingBearingLizard · 21/12/2018 11:40

I forgot Stilton and Brandy Butter, can’t stand either. I’ve thought of something else too, Stollen Xmas Biscuit

ChoctasticFantastic · 21/12/2018 12:04

I hate turkey, cranberry sauce, Brussel sprouts, horrible vinegary red cabbage, stuffing and Christmas cake. We don’t have a very traditional Christmas dinner at our house! Blush

raindancemumma · 21/12/2018 12:13

Marzipan. Just yuck.

florentina1 · 21/12/2018 12:14

I would love someone to explain how Bread sauce became a thing. It looks so revolting and must be so filling.

MrsJayy · 21/12/2018 12:18

Mulled wine reminds me off hot ribena not nice at all. Anything (unless it is in a glass )with Baileys in so ice cream hot chocolate etc etc, and dried fruit cakes

MrsJayy · 21/12/2018 12:19

We dont do breadsauce is it sauce with bread in it ? sounds claggyHmm

astoundedgoat · 21/12/2018 12:23

Hate turkey. But as I am in charge of Christmas dinner, I call the shots, so we have roast beef now.

FelicityLemon · 21/12/2018 12:25

I can't stand parsnips; not keen on glazed carrots (I rally only like carrots raw) and bread sauce but can choke them down out of politeness if I have to.
On the drinks side, Baileys, egg nog and advocaat.

BlooperReel · 21/12/2018 12:26

Bread Sauce
Eggnog
Pate
Not too keen on Christmas cake either.

GlasgowWorrier · 21/12/2018 12:36

For years and years I would have said mince pies but since I turned 40 I've unexpectedly developed a taste for them. It's so weird. Maybe 'enjoying mince pies' is a symptom of the peri-menopause, like saying 'aaah' when you have a cup of tea, and chin hairs.

I was never a fan of Christmas pudding either but have realised that's best eaten warm in really tiny quantities with a big dollop of double cream to cut through the richness. Not after Christmas dinner though - about five hours after, on the sofa, watching a film.

Sherry trifle is a step beyond. Ancient Harvey's Bristol Cream curdling the custard... eugh.

caperplips · 21/12/2018 12:50

I hate bread sauce - disgusting!
Sausage-meat stuffing - horrible stuff (only bread and sage here)
pigs in blankets - yuk!

But i LOVE everything else!

ginghamstarfish · 21/12/2018 12:54

Love the roast dinner part, except for the pigs in blankets and any stuffing made with meat ... yuk. Not keen on Christmas pud, but have a small helping, with cream. Don't understand brandy butter - I love butter but sticking brandy in it and putting it on a hot pudding? The worst thing for me if we are at the PILs is that we get tiny portions ... annoying to hear about how others have stuffed themselves, when we come home hungry!

ginghamstarfish · 21/12/2018 12:55

Oh yes forgot to add bread sauce - another thing I don't understand ... it's like something you would eat only if there was nothing else on earth.

OutragedERIC · 21/12/2018 12:57

I’ll admit I’ve never actually had bread sauce, but I can’t imagine it’s nice.

I have a thing about wet bread.

RingThoseChristmasBells · 21/12/2018 13:02

Why are practically all chocolate puddings contaminated with salted caramel? Salted caramel is the work of the devil. Who thought salt and sugar were a good idea?🤢🤢🤮🤮

MamaDane · 21/12/2018 13:04

The starters are not nice. Blush

Christmas cake is meh as well.

Turkey is a bit dry but alright. Overall English Christmas food is not great compared to Danish. It still tastes good and I enjoy it. But it just feels less.. Sinful? I don't know which word to use. Xmas Grin it just doesn't feel like a treat or guilty pleasure, if that makes sense.

Pork roast with crackling or/and roasted duck > Turkey, by a mile Xmas Wink

Babykoala1 · 21/12/2018 13:38

Turkey
Cold meat the next day (yuck)
Mince pies
Christmas pudding
Christmas cake
Trifle
Posh chocolates with alcohol in

On a more positive note I love rolling my pigs in blankets around in bread sauce, yum

Lovemusic33 · 21/12/2018 13:40

Not keen on mince pies, Christmas pudding or stolen, hate bread sauce and cranberry sauce, not a great fan of turkey either.

sophisticatedsarcasm · 21/12/2018 15:44

I’ve never tried bread sauce as no one else eats it so no need for it to be in the house, I also have a thing about soggy bread which is why I can’t stand tomatos in sandwiches.

Sparrowlegs248 · 21/12/2018 17:08

Bread sauce. Boak.

pastapestoparmesan · 21/12/2018 17:32

Turkey, sprouts, bread sauce, gravy, red cabbage, stuffing, marzipan, royal icing, dates, trifle, quality street or similar, stollen, brandy butter, Stilton and nuts. I also seem to have gone off mince pies.
However I LOVE Christmas pudding and Christmas cake (without icing or marzipan)!
