Here we go again. I think the last thread was the quickest ever, so this one probably won't even get to Halloween, but we shall see!

Ooh my DH wants to wait till December the 1st which I understand but I've always been so fast to stick it up it will feel strange this year doing it later, but I just cannot wait for all the fairy lights everywhere and the smell of tinsel etc. I think I will go to my first Christmas fair this year too. X

Morning! Up in 5, woke up at 4.40, then back to sleep, then woken up by DH's alarm at 5, then dozed, then woken up by the sunrise on my app. 😆

NoWordForFluffy · 09/10/2018 06:10

Morning!

It's a bit windy today. I got blown about hanging the washing out when I got up! Good drying day ahead. 💨

We decorate the first weekend in December, or the last in November if it falls so the first weekend is 5-7 ish. The DCs are already counting down to it. 😂😂

Hope you've got storm pegs! 😂

DH is a Grinch, so ours goes up on Christmas Eve. To be fair, it's a 2ft artificial one that goes on our table which only gets extended on Christmas Day, because we have to climb over the sofa when it's out! Massive bedrooms, tiny TV room!

NoWordForFluffy · 09/10/2018 07:04

I'm sure your DH has some good points, PSB, though you're not selling him to me! 😂

Our pegs are used to wind. This is the windiest place I've ever lived and we've only ever had 2 things escape the line (DD's sheet ended up in the front garden of the house just round the corner! 😂)

We will have to find a temporary home for the Imaginext kit when the tree is up. That'll be fun. 🙄

Sorry have been AWOL! Hope everyone is ok? We decorate the first weekend in December so the 1st this year :) Picked this up yesterday!

Going to GP as we have been summoned for test results for DS which I assume means they are abnormal so a bit worried.

Redgreencoverplant · 09/10/2018 07:21

Sorry pic would help!

Redgreencoverplant · 09/10/2018 07:23

It's going to be 22 degrees here tomorrow!!!!

FireflyGirl · 09/10/2018 07:39

I usually do our decorations over the first weekend of December, but we're away this year.

As much as I love Christmas, I baulk at putting decorations up in November, so it'll probably be the second weekend. That'll be the latest I've ever had them up, I think.

But probably better for 3yo DS, so there won't be as long between them going up and Christmas.

Glad to hear Shaky is doing better, MrsM.

Are you at the GP today, RedGreen? Fingers crossed it's nothing serious!

A 2ft Christmas tree, only up on Christmas Eve, PSB?!? Definite LTB territory Wink

Have you heard back from the job yet, Fluffy?

NoWordForFluffy · 09/10/2018 08:00

Not yet, Firefly. I'm not optimistic! 😭

I’ve given up trying to catch up and will just keep on top of this thread from here Grin

Have I mentioned how excited I am eeeeee 2 days Grin

Seafood - baby brain definitely makes everything much harder 😂

Mrs - I’m glad shaky is feeling better and eating, it’s horrible when pets are ill!

I’m going to look round the shops today and look at baby things, it will be easier after Friday when I know what I’m having 😁Grin

Have a grand day everyone!

AceyMac13 · 09/10/2018 08:24

Hope you hear something soon fluffy! 🙏🏻

I can finally keep coffee down, so I’m enjoying my one cup a day of Sainsbury’s Christmas coffee 😍

FireflyGirl · 09/10/2018 08:40

In case anyone doesn't read the bargain thread, 6 month subscription to Good Housekeeping including the Christmas edition and a free copy of the Good Housekeeping Christmas book for £9.99, plus get £4.20 cashback through TopCashBack/£4.00 Quidco.

Seafoodeatit · 09/10/2018 08:53

Good morning everyone :)

We put our tree up on the first or second weekend of December depending on when we get time, my youngest I have a feeling will spend the whole time taking the tree apart!

redgreen Good luck at the GP, I hope the results are nothing too worrying.

firefly That's a really good offer. I'm on the lookout for a magazine subscription as I've heard they can come with good gifts but in reality I rarely get any time to read them.

NerosFiddle · 09/10/2018 09:01

Don't know if we are going to put a big tree up this year, as one of the babies is bound to try and pull it down. Though we will at least be putting up decorations either the last week of Nov or first in December. It just depends which one dh has off.

HairsprayBabe · 09/10/2018 09:03

Hello all been busy and poorly in our house the olast week, I had a staph infection and just not well at all

BUT we have booked our wedding in and officially set the date - 26th Oct next year!

Saw the preist last night and visited the reception venue on Thursday - full steam ahead!

Hoping to do the whole thing for less than 5k - I think this is reasonable - reception venue is £1900 including stocking the bar. so that leaves just over 3k for the rest of everything!

April2018mom · 09/10/2018 09:15

HairSprayBabe

Good luck and congratulations on your wedding!! That’s exciting news.

RedGreen
I hate abnormal test results too. Hopefully you’ll find out soon enough.

We’re going to pick out a Christmas tree this week and have it up first week in December. Fingers crossed anyway.

PhilomenaButterfly · 09/10/2018 09:31

Firefly more like LTH (Leave The House)! It's too small for anything else.

Redgreencoverplant · 09/10/2018 09:44

Turns out he called us in to tell us they were normal! A whole weekend of worrying and both of us organising time off work in anticipation of bad news and it was nothing that they couldn't have said over the phone on Friday. Relieved he is ok though :) Thank you for all your kind thoughts.

So exciting about the wedding Hairspray! We did ours for 2k so 5k is definitely possible :)

NoWordForFluffy · 09/10/2018 09:52

Ooh, Exciting, Hairspray!

I've taken to reading the GH on the train. And getting the subscription with the book is cheaper than buying the book, so it was a no brainer for me!

Play pens are your friend with babies / toddlers and trees. Ours was fenced off for 2 years!

FireflyGirl · 09/10/2018 13:13

Seafood I don't get much chance either, and I already got the 3 editions for 99p which started this month, so I've ordered the subscription for DMIL and asked if I could have the Christmas book when it arrives Blush

Congratulations, Hairspray. It is absolutely doable for £5k,

  • we did, but it means cutting right back on fripperies like bubble wands for the tables, and DUncles I haven't seen in years. The biggest expense for us apart from the reception/catering was my dress Blush I could have got a cheaper one, but my DDad offered to pay for it on top.
NoWordForFluffy · 09/10/2018 13:28

Firefly, I also got 3 months starting this month, so I started this one from after the 3 months end! No idea if it's allowed, but time will tell!

OP posts:
FireflyGirl · 09/10/2018 13:54

I never thought of that, Fluffy. DMIL will enjoy them anyway, though, so I'm not too bothered.

We've just been to visit a working farm that's open to the public, and they never bothered to warn us or put signs up about the electric fence!!

DS touched it, and thankfully (a) his shoes have rubber soles and (b) he was holding my hand, so he just thought one of the pigs had bumped him, and was more upset that I had squealed and startled him. My arm is still fizzing... They're lucky my French isn't very good, I was fuming!

HairsprayBabe · 09/10/2018 13:54

I don't want any tat like that @fireflygirl we are going with a sort of harvest festival feel, so decorations for the venue will be veg based... sounds a bit odd when I type it out, have looked at catering and we reckon for what we want it should be about £700 (for 80 day guests) we are hiring the speaker system and lights off the hall for £40 not having a band or a DJ just a playlist.
Not worked out prices for booze, flowers, clothing and travel but 2.5k should be enough for that?

PhilomenaButterfly · 09/10/2018 14:44

DS2's got basketball today. No doubt, DD will arrive home and say "Where's DS2?" having completely forgotten, just like last week! 😂
