Lovely thread.

I really want this Christmas to be a good one.

Last christmas was really bad.

Central heating packed in, needed a replacement boiler, so christmas day and the week before we had no heating, no hot water,
Four of us had flu, vomiting, shivering, unable to move.

Worst christmas of my life!

This year I am determined it will be better.

DD moves out to go to Uni in September, and will be home on the 15th December, and like me she loves christmas, so I am determined to put christmas into full swing, ice skating, trips to the cinema, Starbucks for Christmas coffee.
DS and I have been planning to make Christmas vodkas ahead of time, we will have friends around on christmas eve for Carols from Kings and mulled wine.

Looking forward to this one!!

Seafoodeatit · 12/08/2018 11:29

Can I join in too please?

I have a countdown and my countdown to the countdown, the proper one starts at 100 days to go!

Thanks for reminding me to order some things from the internet, I add to my christmas things every year - last year the main purchase was a dinner set, I've not decided for this year but I really want some lights for the front of the house.

cheshiremama89 · 12/08/2018 11:32

Can I join?

First Christmas as a mummy! DS will be 10 months by then!

Any ideas for nice traditions we can start?!? Grin

Redgreencoverplant · 12/08/2018 11:42

Ah that was DS' age his first Christmas Cheshire. To be honest at that age we just did the Night Before Christmas. It is only now that he is nearing 3 that he really has the ability to understand more. For the first Christmas I would focus on doing what you enjoy, you have years of making it all about DS Grin

BiddyPop · 12/08/2018 13:15

Ok, this group is growing and staying chatty!!

I am sat in the airport waiting to board our mammoth journey (7 hr flight, almost 3 hours to change plane then a 9 hour flight!). Apart from supporting DD at her event, and having a holiday, I intend doing a LOT of shopping for Christmas while we are there....🤶🤶

CrazyBaubles · 12/08/2018 13:55

Where are you going Biddy? (Sorry if you've said)

Welcome to everyone new - this is definitely THE thread if you love Christmas planning, prep etc.

I don't have dc but am v close to my nephew and we have a tradition. For Christmas every year I have made him a bauble (he started helping as soon as he was old enough). Last year was a teenage mutant ninja turtle bauble lol. He's almost 9 now and seems to look forward to his Christmas prep afternoon with me - we make a card for his dm (my Dsis), something for his nana and bamp (my parents) and the bauble.

WickerHippo · 12/08/2018 13:57

Hi all, was wondering if you could help me decide where to put the tree this year? Will send a drawing of the floor plan

WickerHippo · 12/08/2018 14:17

Option A-move the bookcase, put the tree there. No low beams so will all fit. May be too close to the sofa and isn’t very wide.

Option B-wider, but there’s a light fixture on the wall behind it so it may have to come away from the wall a bit more. Low beam so might not be able to have 6-7’ tree.

Option C-move armchair and table, put tree there. No low beams but door may open onto it.

I’m dreaming of a cold Christmas! It’s countdown to Christmas thread 5!
NoWordForFluffy · 12/08/2018 14:53

I'm going Option D. Up the other corner next to the window / behind the second sofa. Not in a traffic route so will get in the way less.

TheWoollybacksWife · 12/08/2018 14:59

I agree with Fluffy or option A if D is unworkable. It's always good to be able to see the tree through the window and I like the thought of being able to sit on one of the sofas and be near the tree lights.

My sitting room in my new house is at the back but my dining room tree will be near the window and I have plans to put a big tree at the bottom of the stairs which will be visible from the front door.

WickerHippo · 12/08/2018 15:17

D wouldn’t work as the space between the sofa and the window is only small. I think Option A is our best bet

BakewellGin1 · 12/08/2018 15:24

Option A I think Smile
Ohhh I LOVE christmas planning.
Excited for new christmas decs coming out as I try and get a few new each year.
Starting to think I need to get organised in all aspects in case I never stop being nauseous (dramatic but it seems never ending)...
BiddyPop where are you off to ? with all that buying to plan will keep you busy on flight.

ClashCityRocker · 12/08/2018 15:39

Dh woke up with a craving for Christmas Dinner today....

So we are now having a (mini) Christmas Dinner for tea.

lostlalaloopsy · 12/08/2018 16:24

A mini Christmas dinner sounds fab!! It's cold and raining here, so we've been lying on sofa watching films all day!!! Plus I've been having a look at what to get dc, the 2 girls are fine but I have no idea what to get DS who will be 7 in January - any ideas will be gratefully received!!

wicker option looks like your best bet, it's so exciting. We have just completed our extension which has added a huge family room into the kitchen. So I really think I will definitely need to get some more decorations!!

speakout this Christmas will definitely be better for you all this year!! That sounded tough, the flu last year seemed awful so many people were really ill.

Enjoy your trip Biddy!

NoWordForFluffy · 12/08/2018 16:34

Ah, difficult to tell scale from the drawing, Wicker. A for me too then.

This year can only be better, speakout.

PerfectlySymmetricalButtocks · 12/08/2018 16:45

I would go for Option A.

Hi! Had chicken and bacon risotto for lunch. 😋🍗

Welcome to all the new people! 😆

WickerHippo · 12/08/2018 17:17

Will go with option A then, thank you!

MyPatronusIsABadger · 12/08/2018 17:18

Another vote for option A
Ooh clash I love the sound of a mini Christmas dinner.

NaturalBlondeYeahRight · 12/08/2018 18:30

Cheshiremama family traditions seem to evolve over the years a bit. The ones my teens have to have are
-the same fabric advent calendar comes out, I fill with chocs.
-Xmas duvets on 1st Dec along with
-Xmas China (collected over 20 years)

  • choosing a tree from garden centre plus one decoration each, built up a crazy old collection
-either pub lunch or meal with friends on Xmas eve, your own family can drive you mad over Xmas season. -muppets Christmas carol
Mrsmadevans · 12/08/2018 18:48

PerfectlySymmetricalButtocks · 12/08/2018 19:06

We had a horrible night when he was 2 and in a bunk bed for the first time Mrs, he kept us all up until 10! Poor DD had to go to school the next day! 😴😴😴😴😴😴😴

AnotherShirtRuined · 12/08/2018 19:27

lost Both my DCs (DD will be 8 and DS 6 come Christmas) are getting good quality sleeping bags for their main presents this year as we intend to take them camping next summer. DH and I are also giving each other sleeping bags for the same reason. Would that be something for your DS? Perhaps with a torch and such like thrown in?
