I’m totally stealing Wooly’s idea to buy Supermarket stamps on Rudolph Day.

VivaJen · 24/01/2018 21:07

Totally agree about buying less this year. I’ve got a cupboard full of biscuits, cake and chocolate that I just can’t face. I also went OTT with gifts for the parents.

Woolly was it the Sophie Allport Robin apron that you got? I bought a couple of bits of that print for DMum for this year. It’s lovely and I’ve been swithering over to get her the oven glove too.

You lot have really made me want to book a Hot Stone Massage!

TheWoollybacksWife · 24/01/2018 21:12

Yes it was Jen and I have discovered that there is a Sophie Allport stockist a few miles away so I might nip over tomorrow morning and see if they have any in stock before I shell out on P&P.

NoWordForFluffy · 24/01/2018 21:27

Woolly, where's that stockist then?!

TheWoollybacksWife · 24/01/2018 21:39

In Harborough Fluffy

WreckTangled · 24/01/2018 21:44

What are supermarket stamps?

Massage was amazing I didn't want it to stop! Then we went to Wagamamas for dinner. In bed now Grin

SallyLockhartsDog · 24/01/2018 22:00

Wooly/fluffy is that market harborough?

TheWoollybacksWife · 24/01/2018 22:15

Yes it is Sally. I'm just over the border in Northants.

TheWoollybacksWife · 24/01/2018 22:19

Jen supermarket stamps are savings stamps sold by supermarkets - I use Morrison's. I'm sure other supermarkets sell them although I haven't seen them in Tesco. I've liked Morrison's Christmas food for the last few years - I had the free range turkey crown and it was delicious.

I love MH; lovely little town with some reasonably-priced quirky shops. Though I've not been in years so it may have changed somewhat!

I think with Tesco etc they don't do stamps, but you could always buy a gift card and keep topping it up instead. Same effect (just don't lose the bloody thing!).

I've already got Β£125 in Nectar points, after finishing last year on about Β£20, with another tenner's worth due soon, so that's my Christmas food well on the way to bought. I did find that my baking ingredients cost an absolute fortune though. However, I doubt I'll make more mincemeat this year as I still have some jars left from last, so that'll save me a bit!

Our Morrison's veg isn't great up here, which is why I don't use them, and it's a small store without much choice / range.

I'm impatiently waiting for a massive new Sainsbury's to be built. The Homebase on the land they're using closed last month, so I imagine demolition and building will be starting soon!

WreckTangled · 25/01/2018 06:55

We don't have a Morrison's. I like the idea of adding to a Tesco gift card but as we don't host we don't tend to spend anymore on Christmas week than a normal week food wise (yet!)

VivaJen · 25/01/2018 10:18

Last year I used the Asda Christmas gift card and ended up filling 2. I just used them throughout December which left me with more cash for all the Christmas activities.

Happy Rudolph Day everyone!

FridgeCut · 25/01/2018 11:15

I'm using prolific to build up money for Christmas this year. Doing as many surveys as possible and I will then withdraw my cash in December. (www.prolific.ac/p?ref=8T95ZC6H referral code in case you want to join). You have to kind of leave the page open and go and refresh to look for studies, but it adds up really quick. I am up to Β£30 already this year and I haven't been trying. Trick with all of these is not to get weak and spend it!

NoWordForFluffy · 25/01/2018 17:20

Bloody hell...it's all got a bit contentious in the Ruldolph Day's thread!

I've come back in here to hide. Xmas Grin

VivaJen · 25/01/2018 17:31

Lol! I probably should have just left it but it happens every bloody year! Xmas Grin

FridgeCut · 25/01/2018 18:15

well today I plan to start my one-note for 2018 christmas and write a note to myself not to buy snacks aside from the big christmas shop. 10 bloody pounds I have put on. I need to dump 7 of those by the 7th Feb as I have pre-op for my hip surgery and don't want to weigh in as over weight. Must keep the ridiculousness to a week.

Any ideas what to do with about 100 candy canes? I waaay over stocked.

Mrsmadevans · 25/01/2018 18:42

Been on the Rudolph thread and had a go mwahahaha couldn't resist it mun!
Fridge me too I have put on about a stone Xmas Sad
I can't stop eating yet....l am blaming the weather now because I can't blame the left over Christmas food because I have eaten it all.
Keep us posted bout the surgery won't you ,hope it all goes to plan. I am sure it will ......fingers crossed for you .
Been busy today , up to mums to clean and up the forest for a lovely walk , been to take the Christmas wreaths off the graves and put fresh flowers. Honestly the wreaths still looked lovely it was a shame to take them off but had to be done. I love Holly with Berries and Mistletoe . It is so reminiscent of Christmas.
100 Candy Canes are not going to spoil are they ? They will be good for next year methinks lol....
I don't do the savings cards because I like going to lots of different shops to see what they have and to get the bargains lol .
I have thought about the food for next year and I don't think I am going to get a Luxury Yule log again. At least not from Tesco..... it was sickly sweet.
Hope all had a good Rudolph day!

NoWordForFluffy · 25/01/2018 20:16

I'm currently writing my top recipes from last Christmas into my notebook. My mum has a handwritten recipe book which was passed down to her. I quite like the idea of people using mine in years to come!

I've given up on that thread; I was getting annoyed with the distinct lack of comprehension ability on there! πŸ˜‚

I go on the cross trainer when I get up in the morning. It's such a good exercise for getting rid of stomach / hip / leg fat. Though probably not an option for you, Fridge.

I'd save the canes for this year too. They'll never go off!

lifelongfrugaleer · 25/01/2018 20:33

Oh it's all getting a bit heated.

NoWordForFluffy · 25/01/2018 20:41

Oh dear! πŸ™ˆπŸ™ˆπŸ™ˆ

WreckTangled · 25/01/2018 20:45

What's it called? I can't find it

NoWordForFluffy · 25/01/2018 20:53

It should be next to this one on this board. Something about Rudolph Days. I've hidden it so I don't argue anymore!

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 25/01/2018 21:37

I have had Proper Flu since Sunday . I look and feel grim.
If I haven't lost any weight after all this suffering there will be ramifications I tell ya!

Mrsmadevans · 25/01/2018 21:38

He he I do that too Fluffy!
I still look though grrrrrr!

Morning! It's Friday, wooooo! πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰

What's everyone's weekend plans like? We are giving blood tomorrow (me in the morning and DH in the afternoon). I want to go to Dobbies as well at some point. We might go to the local wetland place on Sunday if it's dry too. Nothing terribly exciting there, is there?!

Has the other thread died down? I got about 8 recipes put into my notebook last night. I'll do some more soon maybe next Rudolph Day (my handwriting is rather poor, sadly, so I hope others can read the recipes!).
