Sally, don't encourage Mrs to shop! Xmas Grin

lifelongfrugaleer · 09/01/2018 20:36

I'm the same height as my dm. Dd is going to be taller than me as she is nearly there now at 10.
Ds needs to catch up to her. He is shorter than she was at his age

FridgeCut · 09/01/2018 20:36

I am very tempted to go and have a look at ebay too... must resist!!

NoWordForFluffy · 09/01/2018 21:38

Mrsmadevans · 09/01/2018 22:30

Me too lol!
We are watching School for Stammerers , DH taped it for us , they are such lovely people and so brave. Bless them it is lovely to see their progress . Anyone watched it ?

Lifelong, my DS is lagging behind DD too, but she was 99th centile at 40 weeks and he was 50th at 37 weeks. I think he'll be as tall / taller, but not until they're teenagers!

Mrs, I didn't watch that. Sounds fascinating.

HairsprayBabe · 10/01/2018 07:12

I think I have 8 ticked off my list so far, I am determined to be finished by October this year!

How do we feel about re-gifting on this thread, I got some nice things that aren't quite to my taste (scented candles in a smell I'm not keen on and a scarf that I probably won't wear) and won't fit in my teeny tiny house but I know my best friend would appreciate or my DPs grandmother?

I usually buy something extra to go with whatever I am re-gifting, but my options are either re-gift, give to charity, chuck out or keep in a drawer for 11 years then throw away....

Re-gifting is fine by me! (I also give the RHS free diary from Book People as a present with a small something I've bought!)

As long as it's not accidentally back to whomever gave it! Xmas Grin

NoWordForFluffy · 10/01/2018 07:43

Re-gifting is not a problem. I think it's a good idea really. (I even gift the free RHS diary from Book People, topped up with something I've paid for; I choose it as my free gift specifically for that purpose!)

As long as it's not accidentally back to whomever gave it! πŸ™ˆXmas Grin

VivaJen · 10/01/2018 07:53

I think re-gifting is absolutely fine as long as it isn’t an obvious re-gift & it suits the person you’re giving it to.

WreckTangled · 10/01/2018 09:08

What's the fluffy? Wink

Re gifting fine by me too.

AceyMcLaughlin · 10/01/2018 10:17

Morning all! Nipped into b&m after work yesterday and they had reduced all selection boxes, including the giant stocking ones to 10p, I bought serveral so the jan diet will have to wait πŸ˜‚
Nipped into poundstretcher they have an aisle full of Xmas stuff all reduced by 75%, I was in heaven! I bought small Xmas trees for the bedroom and a 6ft pre lit one for Β£1!! Also got all this years cards too πŸ˜‚
Hope everyone is well, xmas seems so far away, sob!
Currently waiting on a client who is incapabale of being on time, so sat doing my Xmas lists!

SallyLockhartsDog · 10/01/2018 11:58

I'm happy to regift and be the recipient of a regift (unless it's done with insensitively).

Wow - fab bargains Acey!

I'm in the channel islands so limited to bargain hunting as not a huge variety of shops...got some nice cards in m&s though 50% off.

WestBridgfordRocks · 10/01/2018 12:44

Hairspray and Fluffy Guess where I live?? Xmas Grin Have NC so not to completly out myself.

BiddyPop · 10/01/2018 13:03

Somehow, (probably because we were sick so I didn't relax and drink too much over the hols), I managed to lose 0.75lb over the 3 weeks of Christmas. Xmas Grin

But the challenge now will be keeping to good resolutions and building the better habits....

Spent a fortune in the Lands End sale yesterday, but am getting the package delivered to work.

I also decided that I was ordering my own Christmas present, as the camping burner I wanted did not come in my stocking (I am feeling guilty about being ungrateful for a dyson hairdryer - but I have a professional speed one and had already said a few times I wasn't interested when it was pointed out - and pointed out what I DID want instead). So that will also come to the office (maybe even by Friday, so I can have a play at the weekend making tea in the back garden using just twigs for the fire).

Today , work is annoying me, and I have paperwork for Scouts and school committee to do. Although I am making good progress on both.

Fluffy, I didn't quite get that, do you not agree with regifting then?! Xmas Grin!!

Wayfarersonbaby · 10/01/2018 14:50

I normally start buying for next Christmas in the sales, but had a lot of storage problems this year so was trying not to do it...but oops, fingers slipped on the Joules online sale and I managed to end up with a Christmas party dress and a shirt for my niece and nephew for next year Blush. In my defence they are really lovely items and will be in the right sizes....now just have to find somewhere to store them...

A couple of years back I went a bit overboard with very discounted sale Christmas cards and wrap so I've calculated I still have enough for the next two years! Blush

I have been thinking about why I end up shopping so early - normally do it throughout the year in sales and so on, but to be honest it makes me almost as stressed storing and wrapping the things as when I used to do it all in December. I think it started because we're going through a period of straightened finances so it became a way of buying more for the money as it were by shopping in sales during the year. I also tend to have a spike in work in early December so I end up stressed and rushed just around then, so I thought it was spreading the stress a bit. I like the feeling of having already done it and ticked off things from my list, but somehow it still ends up being stressful, I don't know why? I think it's because I twitch and think it doesn't look enough so I start buying more little things to add which all need wrapping and so on....need to stop doing that!

I've decided to cut down even more next year and suggest to my siblings we just buy for the kids for a year or so, and get my parents something like theatre tickets. DH and I just buy token presents for each other anyway and bath stuff and chocolates for his mum. That would leave us just buying for DD's presents.

I'd really like to have a more relaxed period of Christmas preparations this coming year, I think. Need to think of additional ways to reduce it all a bit.

I just got the rotating circle of doom. So hit refresh. More than once. Fail!

Some cracking Christmas bargains out there, aren't there? Love it!

Mrsmadevans · 10/01/2018 17:08

Fluffy........... what is with all the withdrawn messages lol? What have you been doing/buying/saying ? My mind is boggling mwahahaha.

I don't regift much and usually only if I know the pressie is totally up the recipients street iyswim but I think it's a good idea in theory.

Bought a few things on M & S online they had some naice stuff in the toiletries left and I bought some for my DD1 who is vegan, most of Marks stuff is cruelty free I made sure this stuff was so she will approve of it , fingers crossed lol .She desn't normally approve of anything I do hehe.
Got the dentist tomoz , not looking forward to it, had to postpone before xmas due to the outbreak of the terrible cold sore attack do you remember me going on and on and posting pics what on earth was I thinking , I can only think l was feeling very sorry for myself lol on a good note DH is cooking tea and mum and dad and NDN are all ok at the min so we can all BREATHE!
