I normally start buying for next Christmas in the sales, but had a lot of storage problems this year so was trying not to do it...but oops, fingers slipped on the Joules online sale and I managed to end up with a Christmas party dress and a shirt for my niece and nephew for next year
. In my defence they are really lovely items and will be in the right sizes....now just have to find somewhere to store them...
A couple of years back I went a bit overboard with very discounted sale Christmas cards and wrap so I've calculated I still have enough for the next two years!
I have been thinking about why I end up shopping so early - normally do it throughout the year in sales and so on, but to be honest it makes me almost as stressed storing and wrapping the things as when I used to do it all in December. I think it started because we're going through a period of straightened finances so it became a way of buying more for the money as it were by shopping in sales during the year. I also tend to have a spike in work in early December so I end up stressed and rushed just around then, so I thought it was spreading the stress a bit. I like the feeling of having already done it and ticked off things from my list, but somehow it still ends up being stressful, I don't know why? I think it's because I twitch and think it doesn't look enough so I start buying more little things to add which all need wrapping and so on....need to stop doing that!
I've decided to cut down even more next year and suggest to my siblings we just buy for the kids for a year or so, and get my parents something like theatre tickets. DH and I just buy token presents for each other anyway and bath stuff and chocolates for his mum. That would leave us just buying for DD's presents.
I'd really like to have a more relaxed period of Christmas preparations this coming year, I think. Need to think of additional ways to reduce it all a bit.
