Why do I keep seeing blue rubber gloves on peoples' lists?

6yr old dd has done 5 lists this year

She started them in March.

We told her that Santa had lost them so needed to do 1 list which she did by basically going through the Smyths catalogue.

Up to now we have only ordered one present; her main one as it's coming from America and due to arrive tomorrow.

It's an American Girl doll- Lea Clarke, no longer available to buy in America hence the ridiculous price tag, including customs and postage £215 approx.

However, she has wanted this doll forever. She will look after it and treasure it.

Other presents are all being bought over the next week, she wants the Barbie hello dream house, Our Generation stuff which she collects and loads of other stuff. She has got rid of a lot of toys recently and am not buying any tat.

I cannot even get my head around these lists. It's not the cost, it's the sheer quantity of... stuff. I'm not pearl-clutching - people can buy whatever they like. I'm just amazed. I have a 9 yo and a 12 yo. They usually get 2 or 3 presents from us and a stocking with very little things. This year they are getting a PS4 as a joint family present, plus one game each and maybe one other little thing.
