Right-tinsel, yes or no?

And if yes, colour co ordinated or what ever?
(I'm a no. I once offended teenage dd by saying tinsel was common. Blush in my defence it was at the end of a long day Christmas shopping spending hours in topshop, urban outfitterers and primark, I needed a coffee a big drink-- and it was the straw that broke the reindeers back". I've mellowed a bit now, but can't find any I like)

It's a no from me but my DD (15) loves it. Compromise is that she is allowed to wind it round the banister but we don't have it on the tree Grin

Tinselistacky · 02/12/2017 11:14

Just no - obviously Grin

DoorbellsSleighbellsSchnitzel · 02/12/2017 11:20

Ooh I love tinsel, I'm all of it's glitzy slightly 70s common glory! I've the last couple of years I've thought "hmm, maybe we'll skip the tinsel and go a bit classier this year" but then I just can't resist it 😂.

fleshmarketclose · 02/12/2017 11:20

Not for me,did used to let the kids have their own trees that were always festooned in tinsel though.

DoorbellsSleighbellsSchnitzel · 02/12/2017 11:21

*in all of it's (...)glory, not I'm all of it's (...) glory. That would be weird 😁

PiggyPlumPie · 02/12/2017 11:21

Yes and any colour!

dementedpixie · 02/12/2017 11:21

Yes. Ours is silver and black

strawberrypenguin · 02/12/2017 11:22

Yes! Any colour not co-ordinated.

SwedishEdith · 02/12/2017 11:25

Kids love it and I've mellowed about it. White and silver on the tree - just a bit at the back.

n0ne · 02/12/2017 11:27

Tinsel is common?! I've heard it all now! We have red and silver. I love how it reflects the lights and makes the tree even more shiny Grin

drinkswineoutofamug · 02/12/2017 11:27

I tried to refrain from tinsel last year. Went for ribbon and beads artfully drape over the tree. It lasted not even a day . I love the tack of tinsel, tree chocolates, a drunk looking angel sat precariously on top of the tree. I just don't have foil crap dangling from my ceilings or inflated santa in the front garden

WhispersOfWickedness · 02/12/2017 11:28

I have it other places (banisters etc), but not on the tree. We have quite a small tree though, bigger ones can take it without it being overpowering 😊I do love a bit of lametta though... Xmas Smile

MaidenMotherCrone · 02/12/2017 11:31

It's a big no from me....I was there in the 70s I have no desire to live it again.

roobrr · 02/12/2017 11:31

Blergh no. I hate it.

My DS1 loves it and I feel a bit tight but not enough to get any.

OhWhatFuckeryIsThisNow · 02/12/2017 11:36

Yeah, N0ne, I may have been a dick. (But in my heart I know I'm right) And it obscures the baubles.

Wh0KnowsWhereTheTimeG0es · 02/12/2017 12:22

Don't mind it along bookshelves, bannisters etc but never, ever on a tree.

AnnPerkins · 02/12/2017 12:23

I like it buried right in the middle of the tree. It adds depth and extra glow to the lights.

BuzzKillington · 02/12/2017 12:25

No! Hideously naff.

kayderjo · 02/12/2017 13:54

Definitely NO tinsel. Horrible tacky stuff!

grafittiartist · 02/12/2017 14:01

No from me- but I've lost that battle in our house.

hazeyjane · 02/12/2017 14:02

Oh gosh yes, the more big, fluffy, gold, red silver, sparkly tinsel the better. Our tree is 20 years old, but it doesn't matter how wonky it is as it is hidden under the sheer weight of tinsel and about a millionty baubles.

dinosaursandtea · 02/12/2017 15:29

It’s tacky af and I love it.

Aweektilltheseason · 02/12/2017 18:14

Yes! Yes yes.
I tend not to have any on the tree but am not against it on tree just have lovely thick velvet ribbon I prefer instead. However it's wrapped round painting, lights drapped here and there! Lamenta on tree.
Love that too.

Stompythedinosaur · 02/12/2017 18:16

Not on my tree. The dc have some to fling around their bedroom.

lanbro · 02/12/2017 18:18

No, I have feather boas on my tree...
