Right-tinsel, yes or no?

And if yes, colour co ordinated or what ever?
(I'm a no. I once offended teenage dd by saying tinsel was common. Blush in my defence it was at the end of a long day Christmas shopping spending hours in topshop, urban outfitterers and primark, I needed a coffee a big drink-- and it was the straw that broke the reindeers back". I've mellowed a bit now, but can't find any I like)

Only red and gold. Bright gold, that is. We have one bit of pale gold that I try to hide as much as possible on the tree!

PizzaPizzaPizza · 02/12/2017 18:33

It’s a big fat no from me, however 4 year old dd was desperate for some this year so this afternoon we have put some round the banister.

SingaporeSlinky · 02/12/2017 18:49

Yes, love tinsel. I tried it without one year and it made the tree look quite bare, even with tons of baubles on. And like we were trying too hard to be classy and overly coordinated. I think all the modern black and silver just doesn't look Christmassy to me. I did buy some lovely rose gold coloured tinsel in Wilko and it looks great.

Doyouthinktheysaurus · 02/12/2017 20:55

God yes, love tinsel.

I'd go for a mismatch of as many colours as possible but dh does the trees and they are 2 colours on each.

The tackier the better as far as Christmas trees are concerned imo.

TheBlueMeaniesAreComing · 02/12/2017 20:55

I hate the feel of tinsel and the smell of tinsel but I don’t object to it on my tree, pictures and tv shelves. I think my tree would look really bare without it. It’s quite a skinny tree but it’s prelit so that wins 🤣 I’m usually very firmly it has to match and be coordinated. This year I let the kids go mad. Nothing matches. Every set of baubles that I own is on the tree so it already looked like a rainbow threw up on it. Copious amounts of mix match tinsel won’t make a difference 🤣

BishopBrennansArse · 02/12/2017 20:57

Not on the tree.
Can be good to trim pictures etc though

minipie · 02/12/2017 20:57

I read on here it's very bad for the environment (bits end up in oceans etc)

So no from me

jinglebells123 · 02/12/2017 20:58

On an artificial tree yes, on my lovely real tree no. Going to wrap it round the bannister instead.

And it must be colour coordinated!

Ttbb · 02/12/2017 20:58

Somehow it just looks really wrong on trees. The streakiness just makes the tree look a bit wrong.

RJnomore1 · 02/12/2017 20:59

It's a no from me.

NerrSnerr · 02/12/2017 21:01

This thread is an education. I thought everyone put tinsel on their tree!

anothernetter · 02/12/2017 21:04

No definitely not (although I have heard it's making a come back!)

Lashalicious · 02/12/2017 21:05

Yes! It glitters in the Christmas lights! Takes me back to childhood magic. My husband loves tinsel and puts it all around the tree.

HolyShet · 02/12/2017 21:06

nope

but we do have a 15 year old bag of lametta (aka silvery shit) that we always end up strewing about

Lashalicious · 02/12/2017 21:06

It unifies the tree. Xmas Smile

Lashalicious · 02/12/2017 21:07

Also yes to icicles. Xmas Smile

chachaboom · 02/12/2017 21:11

Most definitely yes. Shiny = Christmas.

Xihha · 02/12/2017 21:14

yes, everywhere and we have no colour scheme to co-ordinate with but my approach to Christmas decorations is as much sparkly tacky stuff as possible, basically if the house doesn't look like an elf has puked everywhere its not decorated enough.

DH tries every year with his classy, colour co-ordinated stuff, the second he leaves the house the DC and I add to it

PurplePotatoes · 02/12/2017 21:51

I'm the opposite to most people here, I like it on my tree (yes it's tacky but I like it!) but dont like it draped on picture frames or banister etc.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 02/12/2017 22:00

No tinsel, but we always have to have 'icicles' (lametta).

ChinkChink · 02/12/2017 22:06

Yes to tinsel. And particularly yes to lametta. Tastefully coordinated. I'm not common.

I’ve had a ban on tinsel for years and years. But this year I’m actually thinking I might like to have some. Red and gold, I think. Not sure I’ll actually do it, but that’s the plan. I do love the sparkle and lustre it adds.

cheshiremama89 · 02/12/2017 22:18

No.

PodgeBod · 02/12/2017 22:28

I love tinsel. All different colours. Everywhere.

millsbynight · 02/12/2017 22:32

A big fat no. Tinsel is banned in our house.
