What do you want for Christmas?

Morning,

I have a lot of family who live a fair distance away, and a husband who doesn't like to think about presents too much, so I'm always asked to put together a list of ideas. Plus my birthday is right before Christmas. I've thought of a few things for this year - a particular Morton Brown hand cream, a couple of books, but now I'm stuck.

What are you asking for?

Nothing really. I know that sounds ridiculous but I'm getting to the stage (I'm 46) where I just don't want 'stuff'. I have a house full of 'stuff' and I'm trying to keep on top if it all. All the things I actually want are big things for the house like a dishwasher, or a new car to replace my old banger - not really present things!

So - John Lewis vouchers.

EmmaJR1 · 13/08/2017 10:44

I ask for particular make up products or vouchers for the stores that sell them, again books or iTunes vouchers for audio books.

I'm in the same boat, long distance family and not sure what to get so I'll be keeping an eye on this thread for ideas!

doodlejump1980 · 13/08/2017 10:49

A job lot of Sarah Bunton hot chocolate sticks would do me fine! And a yarn bowl for my wool. Or a massage voucher.

CiderwithBuda · 13/08/2017 10:51

Nothing really. I'll put together an amazon wishlist of a few books and other bits for under the tree for DH and DS to be able to get something but I really don't need anything and will have spent quite a lot this year anyway.

My sis, BIL, Dad and prob MIL will come for xmas so need to think of nice cheapish things for list for them. Maybe do a £10 limit.

RJnomore1 · 13/08/2017 10:51

I think I want cherry red doc martens.

There's usually a few bits of makeup or Christmas gift sets I would like nearer the time too (I love boots 3-2 sets yes I'm the one)

Oh I'd like tweezerman tweezers too.

ASauvingnonADay · 13/08/2017 11:01

I want a kindle / I've resisted it for ages (book fan) but after my last holiday I've decided I do want one.

TwinkleTwinkleLittleEtoile · 13/08/2017 11:36

I've just added a bottle of gin. I don't have any really good gin at the moment.

I tend to prefer small presents - books, socks, bits for whatever craft thing I'm into at the moment - over bigger things like jewellery. Could really do with some new pyjamas, maybe I'll look for some I like.

Oh I love getting nice pjs.

There's usually a book or a film I want too.

d270r0 · 13/08/2017 12:08

This year a kindle and am debating a fitbit. Also my birthday is before december so a beauty advent calendar.

SimplyPut · 13/08/2017 12:18

I am a fan of consumable gifts... make up, perfume, gin, dark chocolate with orange or spices, manicure voucher, restaurant voucher, concert or theatre tickets etc.

CiderwithBuda · 13/08/2017 13:48

I resisted a kindle for ages but got one a few years ago. It is great for holidays. I buy lots of 99p or special offer books and always have lots to read travelling. Find it fab to have in handbag too as lighter than carrying books around.

NeitherNowtNorSummat01 · 14/08/2017 00:25

I'm asking for a lovely picnic bag and some nice sun glasses (not the cheapy ones from New Look that I am currently sporting)
I know it's the wrong season to ask for them, but I can't justify buying myself either of them right now and I'll get to use them next summer

Oddish · 14/08/2017 00:29

A bean to cup coffee machine and the perfect 100% leak-proof, heat retaining, huuuge travel mug but I don't think it exists.

SideOrderofSprouts · 14/08/2017 00:34

A food processor and some ceramic knives

churchilllounge · 14/08/2017 07:35

Heidi klein bikini (and size 10 body to go with it!)

Snausage · 14/08/2017 07:49

I asked my OH for a pottery course last Christmas but he faffed around and it didn't materialise. Have told him (just last week) that I still want it, so I hope he pulls his finger out. I'd also like more perfume (mine will have run out by then).

I, too, have a birthday just before Christmas. He's usually rubbish, so needs pointing shoving in the right direction.

GutterStar · 14/08/2017 07:57

I'd like a new engagement ring as mine snapped earlier in the year. I got couple of quotes for repair, ranging from "Can't be done!" to £1490! The ring only cost £130 new!

LostMyLunchMoney · 14/08/2017 08:05

I'm coveting this at the moment.

Not sure I'll be able to wait until Christmas if the weather turns very cold. Grin

tootsieglitterballs · 14/08/2017 08:32

I actually have no idea what I'd like... and if I've got no idea, then DH hasn't got a cat in hells chance of knowing!!

Nanasueathome · 14/08/2017 08:34

The Liberty advent calendar

christmasunicorn · 14/08/2017 09:20

I wrote my Christmas list the other day Blush
Cashmere bed socks
Candle (either this works deep sleep candle/ white company/ lily flame)
Book (I'll pick closer to the time once I've seen new releases)
Jewellery (I had my tragus pierced a few weeks ago so a pretty labret to go in it)
Bath bomb (lush!)
Chocolate (hotel chocolate strawberry and cream puddles)
Face masks (Just the £1 ones you pick up in supermarkets/Superdrug etc)

I would also like a few hours to myself to use all the above. Basically I just want some fancy "me time"

Argeles · 14/08/2017 09:32

To live very near to my parents and Nan (my dream Christmas present that'll never happen).

Chanel perfume (hopefully more likely, although I'd be willing to sacrifice ever owning another bottle if it meant I could live near my family).

Sorry to bring a miserable tone to your thread op, but I'm feeling so upset and alone.

QuimJongUn · 14/08/2017 09:39

DH bought me a Kindle Paperwhite last Christmas and it's one of the best presents I've ever had - I use it every day and I love it to bits. All of you hankering after one, you won't regret it!

This year, I've no idea. It's my birthday in a few weeks and DH has bought me a Welsh gold ring, a new Scaramanga satchel (I already have five in different styles but I wanted this one to complete my collection) and a gorgeous watch. So all the stuff I would ask for he's bought me already! Maybe some Welsh gold earrings to match the ring, a nice bottle of Scotch, lots of books... Ah who am I kidding, I can always think of things I want 😀

QuimJongUn · 14/08/2017 09:42

Argeles 💐

My parents are dead and the rest of my family, and all my friends, live hundreds of miles away. I know how you feel - Christmas can be very lonely when you miss people, and home. I'm lucky to have DH and DD but I'd give anything for a chaotic, big family Christmas with everyone there.

It's a long way off I know but I hope you have a peaceful and lovely one anyway Smile

nigelsbigface · 14/08/2017 09:45

I want some glasses I saw in anthropology at the weekend. They are 10 quid each Shock I'm hoping to subtly persuade 8 people that normally buy me a present to get me one each!
