In just over two weeks we'll be into the 90's...

stumblymonkeyagain · 29/08/2017 00:19

While it's been pretty hot down here today...and while I should be happy since it's a Bank Holiday and still technically Summer, I actually felt miffed as it had otherwise been starting to feel a bit Autumnal Blush

I've bought another couple of bits for DP, stocking sort of presents. I need to get him another 1 or 2 bigger things...he's a big fan of Star Wars Lego so one of those sets will likely be one gift.

I've also browsed notonthehighstreet a lot and added a few things to my wish list for potential purchase for family.

Mainly this weekend has been wedding bits...confetti cones, trial run of gingerbread for the favours, etc, etc.

Hollyhop17 · 29/08/2017 04:26

Thanks for the welcome! I'm so excitdd today I made a list of things to book. Stupidly excited about carols by candle light at the RAH!

Is it silly to make a Christmas eve box for my baby this year? I'm just so excited!

How soon can I start burning Christmas candles?!

CbeebiesAddict · 29/08/2017 08:03

Holly I would say candles are fine from when Strictly starts which was yesterday! That's the start of the Christmas countdown for me anyway :)

Temperature is supposed to drop to 14 degrees here tomorrow, that will be properly autumnal. Can't wait to wear cosy jumpers again :)

VivaJen · 29/08/2017 08:30

@Hollyhop17 burn your candles whenever you like. I found 2 Yankee Cinnamon candles left from last year and I've been burning them for the last week. Friday is the 1st day of Autumn (according to the meteorological calendar) so it's all cosy from here!

MooMooTheFirst · 29/08/2017 09:13

Please may I join? My DS will be 19 months for Christmas this year and I feel like it'll be so much more exxviting for him than last time GrinGrin I am also hoping to host Christmas too, although we have a tiny two up two down cottage and who knows if MIL will let me HmmHmm

As a contribution to the thread, I'd like to tell you all that the book people are having a flash sale until midnight and quidco are doing 12% cashback from them too!!

NoWordForFluffy · 29/08/2017 09:35

CBeebies...woah there! Strictly was on yesterday?! (We didn't get back to our hotel until almost-9pm last night after doing the West Highland steam train, so saw no TV yesterday!)

FireflyGirl · 29/08/2017 10:03

It's 14 degrees here today Cbeebies! After being about 24 yesterday! Crazy weather! Definitely autumnal - I've got my cardie on and everything Grin

HairsprayBabe · 29/08/2017 10:25

Chilly here today but boiling in my office, I made excellent progress this weekend with my hampers. Three types of chutney and I picked up a tea pot from a charity shop in the shape of an xmas pud, never been used! I am thinking with some naice tea from whittards and some biccies it will make a totes adorbz gift for DPs Grandmother!

VivaJen · 29/08/2017 10:38

Welcome @MooMoothefirst. Did you enjoy the train Fluffy? I went on it years ago & loved it!

Hollyhop17 · 29/08/2017 10:47

Excellent, the consensus is that its fine to light some candles! I got some Christmassy yankee ones last year that I havent used yet.

Moomoo, what did you do with your LO last year? I am very excited about having a baby but not sure what I can with him this year, being so little. Defo going to get a Christmas eve box [smile

CbeebiesAddict · 29/08/2017 11:33

It was the launch show yesterday fluffy so not quite the real thing just yet but I'm counting it 😁

SideOrderofSprouts · 29/08/2017 11:38

So cross

Ordered chipstheeldest advent calendar from
Superdrug and one for her friend. Says ok website 24 treats

Right?

Bloody things have arrived today and are 12 day advent calendar. TWELVE.

So phoned superdrug as we don't have a local store. And can't drive to one as I'm on a small bloody island. I have to return them both. If the total cost was under £30 they would have just refunded as good will. But as total cost for both is £32 they won't.

I'm going to get stung for VAT for posting it back as well.

NoWordForFluffy · 29/08/2017 11:39

I'll have to watch it on iPlayer, CBeebies 💃 🕺

VivaJen we loved the train. The kids thought it was brilliant!

FireflyGirl · 29/08/2017 14:24

Sprout Does it say on the website that it is a 24 door advent calendar? If so, then it's their mistake and they need to sort it. I would make a complaint before you post them back at your own expense!

NoWordForFluffy · 29/08/2017 14:25

I agree with FireflyGirl (and would've posted that earlier if I hadn't been in the land of GPRS / no signal!).

VivaJen · 29/08/2017 15:15

What kind of Advent Calendar is only for 12 days!!!! That just sounds daft. Good luck with your complaint sprouts

NoWordForFluffy · 29/08/2017 15:17

A shit one, VivaJen!

MooMooTheFirst · 29/08/2017 15:28

VivaJen nothing more much to be honest! He was 7 months ish and didn't even want to rip wrapping paper. He did have presents, but I largely gave him books and GPs gave him toys etc. I bought a wooden house advent calendar with 24 little drawers, so stuff he couldn't use then but hopefully can this year.

I want a Christmas stocking this year, and Christmas pyjamas and bedding now that he's in a proper single bed GrinGrin

SideOrderofSprouts · 29/08/2017 16:42

I've spoken to
Them and they have insisted it had to be posted back. So I've posted and refused to pay any VAT on it. I'm really cross about it as I've gone from being super sorted to having to
Start again

SideOrderofSprouts · 29/08/2017 16:44

If it had been under £30 they would have refunded as good will. As the joint cost was £32 they won't 😡😡😡

NoWordForFluffy · 29/08/2017 17:07

They have to pay your return postage, Sprouts, as it's not as sold.

How frustrating for you. Have you emailed to be notified about the Matalan advent calendars?

Annwithnoe · 29/08/2017 17:09

Sprouts that sucks.
I've noticed that 12 day thing a couple of times but I wasn't paying attention and I assumed it was for 12 days of Christmas, so something else to sell to us after our advent calendars have finished?
Obviously if the marketing people knew anything at all they'd have a 365 day calendar for us lot Grin

SideOrderofSprouts · 29/08/2017 18:32

It's a difficult one as most places won't deliver here at the best of times

Thankfully I've not had to pay to return. So will wait for the refund and then try elsewhere now. I'm limited to boots, superdrug or Amazon. And if it has nail polish or body spray Amazon won't ship either

VivaJen · 29/08/2017 18:37

Are you in Jersey Sprouts?
