Ideas for those hard-to-buy-for men in our lives

Theimpossiblegirl · 04/10/2016 15:24

I was going to ask on the bargain thread but thought it might be easier to have a separate thread.

Please come and share your ideas for the men you are buying for. I have DH and several adult relatives to buy for and am stumped. My only idea so far is a Star Wars Thumb Wars light sabre book for DN.

Help me move away from the Lynx gift sets please (or at least get them cheaper).

Here is the football cartoon thing I mentioned earlier: www.argentart.co.uk/ Makes a thoughtful gift for footy fans.

bluesky · 10/11/2016 14:09

thanks ethelb for the footie cartoon idea, brilliant idea for the hard to buy for great uncle!

Abrahamkin · 10/11/2016 14:23

Laska. I got 15 form cards (as I like that they are packed in groups of 3). I plan to give them mostly to my DH, and then he can distribute if he wants :D. It won't be his only gift most likely, but not sure what else to buy, besides also buying the Sugru I mentioned earlier. In other years I have given him a Beer bods subscription, a spicery subscription, and have also given him a Time magazine subscription. Looking at this I probably should find another subscription thing for him :D. Or maybe get him a wifi camera card.

Can I ask for pics/links to the learherman multi tool? I think DH would like one, but they seem to have different types and I have no idea

FromIbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 10/11/2016 18:00

With the Leatherman multi-tools some are more geared to certain hobbies than others eg. fishing,

The website does have a Live Chat facility so you could ask them for advice.

I think the one that I bought DP was called Wave and is quite a multi-purpose one

starrynight19 · 10/11/2016 18:13

Fmlbiscuits · 10/11/2016 19:22

Laska5772 · 10/11/2016 21:07

starry I think I need a wooden nose glasses holder for myself! (where are they again?.. oh, on me head!) Smile

endoftheworldasweknowit · 10/11/2016 22:33

Flowers for all the fab ideas! Have got the grid it and some form cards on the way.

I just found these and every man (and woman!) in my family is getting one of these sriracha keyrings this year!

Laska5772 · 10/11/2016 22:42

I also got a couple of letter mugs for some of my menfolk from M&S today

onedayatatime73 · 11/11/2016 14:01

For anyone who's DP wears a shirt - I buy silver collar stiffeners every year- the little blade type things to tuck in the collar to keep it straight. Have had them all engraved - with names of restaurants we used to date pre children/ names of the kids/ memorable things the children said etc. He's probably for about 20 pairs as buy them for birthday too but he said recently he looks forward to them every time. NOTHS do them if that's any help to anyone.

ItsaTenfromDen · 11/11/2016 14:27

Thanks everyone, just spent an hour buying some of the things mentioned. Really appreciate everyone suggestions

Whattodowithaminute · 11/11/2016 17:50

Thanks for the sriracha key ringljnks DH will love them!

Things which have gone down well for DH in the past;

Various magazine subscriptions; the week, private eye, decanter and the economist.

Book subscriptions from daunt books and the willoyghby book club

Coravin wine gadget, other wine books etc (proper wine geek).

Will be doing lots of the things recommended on this thread to the list for this year!

CurbsideProphet · 12/11/2016 23:17

I've been struggling to buy for my DP and he has his birthday before christmas too! What are these "form cards" that people keep mentioning?

FleshEmoji · 13/11/2016 08:39

FormCards on Amazon

Abrahamkin · 13/11/2016 09:18

Here is more information about formcards if you want to buy bigger packs (to have some to give out to others). They say it will take 2 months for delivery, but mine arrived at a day or so over a month, so you might just be in time to order from there.

NotAMammy · 13/11/2016 13:03

oneday do you have any tips for where to get shirts that have the holes for the stiffeners? DH got one for our wedding but I'd like a few more.

HRarehoundingme · 13/11/2016 13:46

Thank you so much for formcard information - just ordered for BIL who is a farmer so am sure he could make use of something like that.

I have also bought tractor top trumps [but nearly bought Plop trumps Envy ] I also picked up an expansion pack of cards against humanity as they don't have it but think they'll like it. Debenhams also had a "build your own 4x4" so also grabbed that. I'm also debating the selfstirring cup.

heavenlypink · 13/11/2016 14:18

OH and I don't buy for each other - although I am very tempted to get a wooden nose glasses holder for him as he always looses/forgets where he puts his. However, I do need advice for gifts for the other men in my life and this thread is amazing. Thank you one and all FlowersFlowersFlowers

paperdreams16 · 13/11/2016 15:05

I'm getting this for my Arsenal mad BIL.

It's a book filled with newspaper headlines about Arsenal over time. I struggle to buy for him every year but I really hope he'll like this. Smile They do them for lots of different football clubs - I'm toying with the idea of a Tottenham one for my dad if I don't think or anything else.

CurbsideProphet · 13/11/2016 16:21

The form cards look interesting, but I don't think he would really use them.

paperdreams good tip! I will check to see if they have one for my DP's team Smile

Mrsmadevans · 13/11/2016 19:36
