Ideas for those hard-to-buy-for men in our lives

I was going to ask on the bargain thread but thought it might be easier to have a separate thread.

Please come and share your ideas for the men you are buying for. I have DH and several adult relatives to buy for and am stumped. My only idea so far is a Star Wars Thumb Wars light sabre book for DN.

Help me move away from the Lynx gift sets please (or at least get them cheaper).

Lego. My husband is a million years old and hates everything I've ever bought him. Except novelty lego.

Blodders, I got this torch for DH last Christmas. It gives a really good light. My brother got one the Christmas before as well because he goes dog walking after dark and he said how bright it was.

I have got my dad the cornerstone razor set and probably a bottle of something.
Dh I was going to get him some luxury skincare products, he'd never buy them for himself (because he's a bit of a tight arse) and I have no idea what else.
And between them I'm getting a round of golf on a links course, or match tickets somewhere. Theyre practically bff's and both love sport and a few beers.

I saw some PAC man Nano block Lego on aliexpress.
If the men in your life are interested in aquariums and Lego (fairly specific, I appreciate!) my local Maidenhead aquatics had Lego for inside the tank.

Back to the "doing stuff" Ideas
Bread baking course
Butchery course
Cheese making course.

Are the form card and Grid it only available online? Does anyone know?

Report
Abrahamkin · 10/10/2016 18:11

CeciliaMiddleton. If he likes Lego have you considered Flexo? I saw it this week, but unfortunately none of the men in my life are that into Lego, except my 2 yo Grin. So that was a no.

And to oompaloompa, Form card should also be available in some stores according to this, but doesn't seem like a lot.

DP is the hardest person to buy for! Buys everything himself, likes expensive things doesn't drink beer, doesn't like football - he's a nightmare. Last year I brought him a lovely cuflink box, thinking i would start getting matching items such as watch box for his birthday and then he appeared all proud of himself one day saying "look what I found to match my lovely cuflink box" he doesn't wear ties, I end up buying him cuflinks every single time and food items:

people were asking about nanoblocks

Big selection in johnlewis I brought a couple of sets for my brother last year, lots of swearing whilst trying to put them together but he loved them Smile

My dh enjoyed beer subscription! (Still paying 3 yrs on!) & a cookery day.

Also, home made vouchers for a load of ironed shirts, control of remote etc. please be aware that expiry dates should be added to these. My dh tried to cash in a load the other day, one of which was for him to pick a video to hire from the video shop!

Lucked - thank you! They are perfect for my 'outdoorsy' DH who complains about the cold and rain, insects, wind, sand, walking, etc

Things that have gone down well with my foodie DH in the past:

Home brew kit (there's now always 40 pints on the go under the stairs)

Pizza oven https://www.amazon.co.uk/Ferrari-G10006-Delizia-Pizza-Oven/dp/B002VA4CDI?tag=mumsnet&ascsubtag=mnforum-21

Sausage machine - enjoys the process, plus it means we now know what's in our sausages!

Counter top rotisserie (makes amazing chicken)

There is another thread with lots of Cornerstone Razor links where you get a referral money off for your first order. They went down a storm. Just mentioning it here as its a good man gift (and I think someone mentioned it already). Here is my own link that can be used. I get a referral amount in my account. I used someone else's link to get a personalised razor handle and spare razors for £4. Nice quality. link

Can someone remember where the link is for other people's links so they can be used too?

I was thinking of buying DH and DB pet portraits. Not On The High Street have quite a few ranging from pencil/line drawings to paintings. Prices are from £40-about £300 depending on which artist you go for.

Thank you for the Sugru idea - perfect stocking filler for DH.

I have now only to buy for him. So far for his stocking I have:
Simplehuman Dash button
From Zero to Infinity book (my older two Dc are also getting books from this series)
Dipsticks game
Pointless mini game

Need to fill up the stocking with just a few other small bits and pieces and then get a main present and have no ideas at all!

Not into football or any other sport really, other than golf.
Doesn't drink so no alcohol kits/sets/subscriptions.
Loves coffee but already has a monthly order set up and fantastic local shop.
Doesn't cook so again no food subscriptions.

Last year I got him a Fitbit which he loves. Also a hit last year was the Wallet Ninja and the pacman nanoblocks. (both previously mentioned upthread)

Argh! Why are men so bloody hard to buy for?!?!

Abrahamkin · 14/10/2016 17:51

wheatchief I bought some Formcards earlier this week. They haven't arrived yet though of course. From the comments it appears that most are receiving their package before 2 months, so keeping fingers crossed Christmas should be fine.

I ordered the form cards this week but they didn't give an estimated delivery time unfortunately.

Apersonwithnoname thanks for mentioning aliexpress! I'm going to order a grid it from there. It was out of my budget before.

I like the idea of those Grid It organiser things.

I'm just wondering what size to get and where DP would use it - bigger size one in his van or a smaller size one for a rucksack or bag when travelling ?

My most successful present for DP was a Leatherman Multi-tool - it gets used all the time. You can also buy a small kit of attachments to go with them, cases etc

Aperson I've just used your cornerstone link, here's mine if anyone needs it
