We seem to be in chav central here and its doing my head in.

i would have a wreath if i was here this christmas!

dingdonglapinroseonhigh · 18/12/2006 18:25

our street = wreaths, sadly neighbouring street lowering the tone

colditz · 18/12/2006 18:27

Wreaths are so passe. Reindeer are for the 'Noovo poor'

colditz · 18/12/2006 18:28

I want one of those 6 ft snow globes I have seen in Wilko. I will put it in my front garden, dn stick a "Santa we wuv u" sign on it.

CouldEquallyHaveBeenAnAardvark · 18/12/2006 18:28

There's an inflatable Homer Simpson as Father Christmas on the roof just up the road.

LorinaLovesSprouts · 18/12/2006 18:29

Both here too. Hooray! I Love it all sparkling and jolly at night

doyouwantfrankincensewiththat · 18/12/2006 18:32

wreaths on doors & christmas trees in the windows so very nice, but on Dec 1st we had two boys come to the door, sing one line of We wish you a Merry Christmas (they didn't know any more ) & expect money....same again two nights later only this time it was one boy & he claimed he was doing it for a local childrens home.

If they actually knew a few christmas carols I wouldn't be so 'bah humbug' about it all.

bah humbug

poinsettydog · 18/12/2006 19:01

Neither. Variety of lights in windows in my street. Very much halfway between inflatable reindeer and wreaths.

danceswithreindeer · 18/12/2006 19:03

Wreaths on the doors except for my neighbours who have absolutely no taste.

SnowMuchToBits · 18/12/2006 19:04

A variety - some tasteful lights, e.g. simple string over windows or a tree garlanded with lights. Some completely OTT, e.g. every window covered, lots of flashing things, inflatables. However, have not yet spotted the giant inflatable robin which one house had on its garage roof last year......

southeastastra · 18/12/2006 19:07

it's boring in my road, but round the corner they have about 5 giant inflatables, globes, lights everything it's brilliant at night. they're doing it for a cancer unit at the local hospital, but i don't know what it would be like to live next door

tasteful and very understated, thank god!

Boobooroastingonanopenfire · 18/12/2006 19:08

I made my wreath this year with willow and holly. Do I win some sort of middle class award?

Loads of madly decorated houses round here though (South London). I nearly crashed the other day after being partially blinded by someone's house.

How do you put a wreath on a pvc door?
I bought a lovely one, but it's above the fireplace. NOt sure I'd want to put it outside, since it was from a craft village, but would have liked to put one outside at least.

I've jsut got lights in the window. most people here jsut seem to have lights, but there is a giant inflatable santa down the road.

Boobooroastingonanopenfire · 18/12/2006 19:09

I do put coloured lights on my tree though. More cheerful IMO.

MrsMillsletoe · 18/12/2006 19:14

We're all white lights here, ds1S is most upset as he wants the proper big lights like they have in England. We're promised to drive him round an estate when we return (in 2 days!!!!!).

"Swedish lights are sooooooooo boring mammy"

I bought a giant suction hook that sticks to the upvc. I've had mine up a week and its still there. Even in strong wind.

FrayedKnotRoastingOnAnOpenFire · 18/12/2006 19:29

The people over the road have flashing lights in their palm tree (well it looks like a palm tree, not sure exactly what it is).

All our neighbours decided to switch their lights on last Friday, and surprise surprise, the whole area had a power cut.

DH & I stared out of the window shouting Bah Humbug alot.

Bagpuss30 · 18/12/2006 19:40

Kelly, you need a wreath hook which is a sort of double ended hook and hooks over the top of the door so that you can hang the wreath on the front of the door. I have one which I either bought from M&S or John Lewis about 3 years ago now.

Our street is all wreaths and lights along the front porches this year - all very tasteful .

Tinker · 18/12/2006 19:43

I'm disliking those blue lights very much, hurt my eyes.

NannyL · 18/12/2006 19:43

my street is illumibtaed like the black pool lights

however there are hardly any (actully NONE!)father xmas / bart simpson / whinnie the pooh etc (unlike previosue years)... and only a few inflatables... (3 on 1 house) its a v long road of 400 odd houses.... and i have to say with the exception of 2 houses (0.5% ) all are eithr no lights or tatseful lights!
