We have both down our road, LOL

Our estate looks like chav central in places. We are going for a walk on Christmas Eve to see the lights!

NannyL · 18/12/2006 19:43

should say 0.05% (typing error sorry)

Kelly1978GotRunOverByAReindeer · 18/12/2006 19:45

I saw those hooks somewhere, but didn't think that the door would actually shut with it on. It seemed really thick metal.

Kelly1978GotRunOverByAReindeer · 18/12/2006 19:46

I grew up in norfolk, not far from great yarmouth, and there were lots of chav areas there. I miss the lights. People would raise money for charity and some were really friendly and would give choc out to the kids when you went round. i've not seen any like that around here.

2000milestoeidsvold · 18/12/2006 20:27

not much down our road - must be scrooges - only two decorated lit up houses... the rest of us - nothing!!

however around the road there is a house that is so bright I figure we will get a power cut soon as there will not be enough power on the grid for the rest of us....

SpicymulledSheraz · 18/12/2006 20:33

All of the houses in our street have the lovely (well i think so ) white lights that look like icicles dangling a;ong their porches and garages it looks fabulous! We are a tasteful bunch here in S. wales!

Glitterygookwithchocsonthetree · 18/12/2006 20:34

Wreaths mainly.

Some white lights around porches.

Couple of houses have big white light reindeer at the front - they look good though cos they are big houses with big frontages (if that's a word). THey don't look tacky.

Some rounds around are tacksvillearizona but look bloody fabulous and the kids love it!

Glitterygookwithchocsonthetree · 18/12/2006 20:35

Some roads around that should be.

DeckthehallsLaDiDaDi · 18/12/2006 20:37

I've got a wreath and a merry christmas doormat. A couple of houses have some white lights but nothing much else.

My parents street looks lovely as almost all of the houses have those pretty white icicles.

Glitterygookwithchocsonthetree · 18/12/2006 20:37

The boys have coloured lights on their tree which is in teh window of the playroom which looks out onto the road. So....

Our main tree has white lights on but coloured ones are fabbo for the kids I think.

fruitcake · 18/12/2006 20:40

One of our neighbors who's an electrician has put up reindeer, sleigh & inflatable père Noël. All lit up... cringe-o.

SantasPersonalClown · 18/12/2006 20:40

You should see my street and the neighbouring one. Blackpools illuminations has nothing on these people!!
One house has a 6ft inflatable Santa on the garage, Homer Simpson in the front gardne and every inch(and I mean every inch) of this 3 storey house is covered in lights and all the windows too.
I think they bought every single outdoor light in the Studio catalogue!!!
They've even got a revolving projector going on the back wall.
I'm all for festive cheer but it really is OTT.

doyouwantfrankincensewiththat · 19/12/2006 13:16

nobody worried about getting their wreaths nicked then?

JessaJingleBells · 19/12/2006 13:19

Wreaths would indeed be nicked.
Mainly flashing lights, leaping, light up reindeers in windows and those foil-y dangly-from-ceiling things

Not us though - natch!!!

tiredemma · 19/12/2006 13:21

there are two semi detached houses near us that share a pathway down to the front door, they have actually built some kind of metal pole erection, going from one garden - over the path into the other garden and put all kinds of crap over it. Looks hideous, but we drive by to show the kids as a treat.

NOELallie · 19/12/2006 13:24

Wreaths. One house has a load of blue lights in their front room - just blue. You can see it through the nets and it looks really dismal at night - I think I'd be suicidal if I had to spend every evening in that.

mamijacacalys · 19/12/2006 13:29

A mixture of tasteful white lights, wreaths and the inevitable OTT people who are trying to outcompete each other with the usual Blackpool attempts plus nativity scenes FGS (3ft high plastic wise men, angels, sheep etc).
There seem to be a lot of blue lights around this year too... why do people want their houses to look like Porky's?......

TerrbileTwos · 19/12/2006 13:41

The family next door to my mum & dad (actually just around from me & DS) have hung all sorts of illuminated bits to the outside of their house - including a santa climbing up the side of the house, an 8ft high inflatable, illuminated snowman and more christmas lights than Glasgow City Centre. unfortunately they didn't think it necessary to remove the eight bags of household garbage sitting in the front garden for the best part of a fortnight awaiting transport to the local tip cos they are too lazy and stupid to call the council for an extra collection of their rubbish but in the meantime my parents and the other neighbours have to put up with the stench and the foxes etc........

TT

piximon · 19/12/2006 13:54

Couldn't put a wreath on the door as it wouldn't stay there. The neighbourhood kids would prob use it as a frisbee.
Hardly any decorations visable in my area at all.

divamumdiva · 19/12/2006 14:09

i bought hand made wreath from lcal market, at our state all house have lights outside and wreath at the door. luckily no inflatable santa`s hanging like suicidal. looks quite civilized as we walked around with little one in the evening before teatime yesterday.

nogoeswithbellson · 19/12/2006 14:11

Wreathes on doors and some have lights on topiary trees.

mammaduck · 19/12/2006 14:18

Kids nicked our doorbell recently and so I don't fancy the chances of a wreath hung on our door. Don't get me started...

Jbck · 19/12/2006 14:32

Could be worse you could live here Terribletwos do you live in a little South Lanarkshire village near Newton cos I think I've passed that house!

Quootiepie · 19/12/2006 14:34

I am going to take a photo of my square... you will all laugh. Im scared of the dark and don't need to keep my bathroom light on anymore!

Quootiepie · 19/12/2006 14:35

Jbck - no. 13!!!
