Wreaths on doors... not an inflatable in sight!

TerrbileTwos · 19/12/2006 15:11

jbk - no not at Coalburn - at least that guy makes at least £10,000 every year for the Sick Kids Hospital in Glasgow. No the fact that they have hung all this stuff doens't bother me - my mum & dad have an 8ft high inflatable winnie the pooh in the back garden - but it's the fact that they have all this rubbish lying in the FRONT garden piled up beside the fence. The mess is unbelievable not to mention the smell

YeahBut · 19/12/2006 15:21

Wreaths on doors and fairy lights on trees in the gardens. Magical!

earlgrey · 19/12/2006 15:23

Wreath. Made it myself by accosting a commercial gardener who was cutting down some willow from a nearby house. Wove it, stuck a few apples and euycaliptus in it, bingo. Just needs dd1 to thread some cranberries into a heart shape, and attach some tartan ribbon.

We made quite a lot of money for the school fair flogging those

earlgrey · 19/12/2006 15:49

For the first time EVER, we have had to buy (and put up) tinsel. dds have demanded it. I hate the stuff with a vengance, but it's their Christmas ...

hotandbothered · 19/12/2006 15:56

Wreath for us. Less tacky stuff this year - have people got bored with it? We ended up driving miles to show dd the pretty lights. But at my MIL's her house looks very dull with just a wreath compared to the inflatables all around her

Stockingsofdinosaurs · 19/12/2006 19:36

Wreaths here, that's why we moved house. Must get one actually, got to keep up with the Joneses.

Scootergirl · 19/12/2006 19:39

We have wreaths on our street but just down the road they have inflatable Santas which are let down during the day and just put up at night. I've had to stop walking past with DD as it's like some kind of Christmas massacre with all these dead reindeer and Father Christmas's slumped on the ground...

nothing except lights in the window ('cept possibly the people 2 doors down - they have a wheely bin cover , and fake tudor windows on a victorian house I haven't checked yet).

They would either a) get nicked/trashed by people going home from one of the 5 pubs within one minute's walk of our house.

b)block up the pavement. Lots of people here don't have front gardens and the pavements are very very narrow, so not really an option for many.

Whizzz · 19/12/2006 19:46

we have nothing outside apart from a wreath on the door, 1 neighbour has a lit up tree & wreath & the other has a rope light. Next door but one have allsorts of lights flashing away !!

JollyOldSaintNikkielas · 19/12/2006 20:33

just a few lights in windows here

PanicPressiePants · 19/12/2006 20:36

Very tasteful here, we have a wreath, and I feel like we are the trashy neighbours

Ilovestnicholas · 19/12/2006 20:41

Only 3 houses down our lane, off the main road. One is dark and shut up as the owners are in Florida for a month, the other two (mine included) have a wreath on the front door, a Xmas tree with white lights on outside the front door(not mine) and white fairy lights on the trees down the drive(mine). Thankfully not an inflatable illuminated reindeer nor a rooftop santa in sight!

BonyMerryxmas · 19/12/2006 20:45

Wreaths here, and a few tasteful lights in trees, over porches etc.

There's a fab display in the front garden of one of the houses near dd1's school though - just like fairyland . We took the girls along especially to see it last week!

kiskidee · 19/12/2006 20:46

more of a wreaths on the door type of road. we have one chavvy neighbour (wealthy chavs though ) who put the blow up things in the front garden last year. luckily a gale blew in the first night and they were all lying across the lawn the next morning looking very much like used condoms. no such repeat this year.

Posey · 19/12/2006 20:47

Pretty tasteful al in all. But round the corner is The Christmas House. Famous landmark round here. They even open up the garden where there are more delights, provide pressies for the kids, and any donations are given to local charity.

TEEstheCEEsontobejolly · 19/12/2006 20:51

I have a wreath, my neighbour has about 8 things all lit up over the front of the house and her front garden is homw to 3 huge inflatable snowmen! D and I were devestated! Our friend rang us last year while we out to laugh at us and we hadn't yet seen it. Our jaws hit the floor when we pulled up. They are the only ones in the road to go so mad and they live next door to us, great!!!

It's all a bit tasteful round here. We've got IKEA stars in the front window, a Christmas street sign above the door and a wooden snowman in the porch and even they look conspicuous and have been commented on! Tempted to put a 12ft illuminated santa on the roof to REALLY p*ss everyone off.

Jbck · 19/12/2006 22:44

QPie you just know they stay up all year round don't they!
TTwos I was thinking of Westburn, there used to be a house there which they did to look like a huge present, drove DD round last year to see it & I couldn't find it, devastated Xmas Sad.
We have nothing as we've just moved house & not organised yet, neighbours a mix of tasteful white lights, thousands of tacky white lights & giant snowmen. We may have a wreath by Xmas Eve but that'll be it outside.

RudolphsREADY · 19/12/2006 22:47

Very tasteful on our street [smug]... we have our tree in the bay window, but no outdoor lights

ledodgychristmasjumper · 19/12/2006 22:49

In our road everyone has wreaths but there is alot of window lights as well.

Nemoinapeartree · 19/12/2006 22:55

no outdoor inflatables here but then a lot of houses also dont have any sign of decorations at all...a few[us included because of DS this year] have some lights in the window or on a small tree but thats it.

FairytaleOfNewNORKSBRIDE · 19/12/2006 22:59

We don't live in a street - so DD1 insists on being driven to 'proper roads with houses on' so she can lust over their Christmas lights!
