Choosing the board games is my favourite part of Christmas shopping! :o

Unfortunately it is DH's turn to choose the main family game this year so I've reluctantly relinquished control Blush - he's chosen Castle Panic, although the new cooperative Thunderbirds game came a close second.

For the DCs I've got that Bounce Off one that is advertised on telly - looks a bit of a five minute wonder, but they both go gooey over it whenever it comes on, and I'm thinking that will be the Santa present (as they know mum would never buy it Wink).

DSCs (teens/young adult, all live together) are getting a couple as a joint gift - the Batman edition of Love Letter, and the London Game.

DCs always get Top Trumps in their stockings, so DD (8) has Monster High and DS (6) has the retro style Transformers.

Trying to resist the temptation to add more Hmm

Email from Amazon, delivery changed from 30th til 21st December on Ticket to Ride, still £29.49 on prime if you look. Not the automatic choice.

Ticket to Ride is brilliant. As is Takenoko BTW... I'm coveting the chibis expansion of the latter!

NowBringUsSomeFuzzpiggyPudding · 18/12/2015 17:26

My DD made me really happy today. They've seen some of their presents already (wrapped I mean!) and we were packing them to take to my mum's. She held up the two small ones and said oooh I really hope these are games! It just so happened that they are indeed games (sleeping queens/super tooth) so I had to keep a poker face. I love that she's so excited about possibly getting new games to play!

makemineasnowball · 18/12/2015 17:30

Hello

I've read the thread but after some quick advice for a present for friend & their family-dc from 2.5 - 10. Would also like recs for mysel but that's not as urgent! I'm picking up the best would be go sushi, bounce off, rory's story cubes or sleeping princesses.

One of the dc age 6 has attention issues so please could someone tell me which of these would be most suitable or if something else would be better? Also, which department stores I may find any of these in stock?!

Many thanks

Toffeelatteplease · 20/12/2015 21:33

I haven't played sleeping princesses or bounce off...

My 8 year old with sn can manage sushi go but for that mix I'm not sure it would be my top choice.

I think I would consider dobble over those options ...

evelynj · 20/12/2015 21:40

Thanks toffee - will add it to the list and see if I can find it anywhere. It sounds good :)

NowBringUsSomeFuzzpiggyPudding · 21/12/2015 00:13

I would say sushi go (it's a very quick game) or dobble are pretty safe bets :)

I am soooo excited for Christmas! Because of the games we will be playing :o

NowBringUsSomeFuzzpiggyPudding · 21/12/2015 00:14

Oh and I saw a new game today, called 'that rope game' which looked nice

Qwirkle is brilliant and totally inclusive

cleanmachine · 21/12/2015 10:54

Spent ages reading this thread and bought dobble, ludo, snakes and ladders, bananarama, and almost bought labrinth but is cheaper at argos but not available for delivery so have saved that in my basket.

Our usual are always scrabble and monopoly so I'm glad to replenish with new stock thanks to this thread.

NowBringUsSomeFuzzpiggyPudding · 21/12/2015 12:27

I'm so happy this thread is still going! :o :o

I set up a new wishlist on Amazon. I already had to divide my Games list into two (one for big games, one for small dice/card games) but I've now made a separate one for expansions. Ignoring the fact that some of the expansions are for games we don't even own yet...

BuildersBum · 21/12/2015 14:39

I got the Splendour courtesy of the Starbucks offer this week and am LOVING it.

OH's not had a go yet, to see if he likes it, but he has bought the pocket version of Ticket To Ride, as he's so excited about the box version arriving :-)

I've got Sleeping Queens in my 'last minute' wishlist. I keep checking it see if any have price dropped significantly. They've not Xmas Sad Yet Xmas Grin

Chillywhippet · 21/12/2015 15:12

I have finished shopping (hopefully) and our new games list (between 4 DC) is

Lords of Waterdeep - for the Dungeons and Dragons loving DC as it had a D&D theme but is not D&D
Cash and Guns - DD played this at a convention so she should love it but it looks like a good party game that DH can enjoy
Blokus - travel version from Lidl
You be the judge - team party game which has rubbish reviews on boardgamegeek but great ones on Tesco and DD1 and DH will enjoy

Stocking fillers
Adventure Time Love Letter card game - really wanted the batman one but wasn't sure about the cartoons of the women even though they are from the original comics and DC are really into animation. Hmm maybe wrong choice?
Top trumps Marvel - younger children will like
Steam Punk playing cards for DD2
DD1 not a gamer so she has a Mooncup instead of cards (fsmile)

Chillywhippet · 21/12/2015 15:14

Sorry square bracket fail that should be Xmas Smile

NowBringUsSomeFuzzpiggyPudding · 21/12/2015 15:26

Starbucks offer...? (not sure I should be asking... must hide credit card)

Chilly if they like Adventure Time I'm sure that version is a great choice! I haven't actually looked at the batman one, it's all wrapped.

I've just beaten my DS at chess. This isn't me saying he's some chess prodigy BTW, rather that I am THAT CRAP at chess that beating a 6yo is an achievement Blush

I'm annoyed though because the Thunderbirds chess set was down to about £20 and I didn't snap it up - it would have to be put away til DS' August birthday at the earliest, but I should've got it because it's back up to over £30.

BuildersBum · 21/12/2015 15:33

Starbucks free App of the week.
Not sure if it's still running.
I saw it on the deals page of BGG Xmas Wink

BuildersBum · 21/12/2015 15:34

"Adventure Time Love Letter card game - really wanted the batman one but wasn't sure about the cartoons of the women even though they are from the original comics and DC are really into animation. Hmm maybe wrong choice?"

Funny, I thought exactly the same thing and have downloaded loads of Adventure Time on the Sky Box to get DD used to the them.

But it's double the regular one price, so she might get that.

Chillywhippet · 21/12/2015 15:45

All the Love Letter games in the velvet pouches were £8 ish at the 2 shops I looked in.
Will see how much we like it. If it's a hit we can always try another when it inevitably gets lost, squidged or covered in fermenting orange juice in the bottom of my bag.

Kids keen to learn Dominion which because of this thread I remembered was in a box at my mums. I must get the Hoover round first though.
Would much rather be playing game than cleaning Xmas Blush

Story of my life that is. Xmas Grin

DD's got a friend round and she loves board games so we've been playing lots. Dug an old Ravensburger one out called Space Walk that we hadn't played for ages - got from a charity shop in the first place, and had no instructions, but I've found a PDF so I've saved it. Pretty good :)

Also wanted to recommend One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish for any little Seuss fans. We had fun with that today :)
