We've been into Homebase (twice...Hmm) today and I took a little detour round the Christmas Dec's. Sniffed the tinsel as is my wont and a lady gave me a concerned look. DH responded with "pregnant...", a comedy raised eyebrow and a shoulder shrug. Lady wandered off smiling but I just know she went back later for a stealth sniff!

Xmas Grin
DrasticAction · 16/10/2015 19:13

Paper I usually really love some items in home base but luckily came away a bit flat really, which is a good thing!

DrasticAction · 16/10/2015 19:14

although I do love the smelll of tinsel too, which is why I have re introduced it into our house Grin

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 17/10/2015 10:24

If I get arrested, I'll blame you lot and my Dad (he likes to smell the wrappers from After Eight mints Confused. They don't even smell like mint)

I can blame menopause hormones Xmas Grin

nickdrakeslovechild · 17/10/2015 15:08

Does tinsel keeps it's smell or does it fade?
Does the type of tinsel make a difference? The thicker shiney strands or the thinner almost fluffy ones?
££ or Bargain Basement?
I could buy some to twist round the upstairs bannister Xmas Grin

DH and I (in our very late 40s) were talking about being at school when the teacher went off to freshly photocopy some papers for the class (especially if it was the purple ink) we all inhaled.
It was so disappointing if it was "some I did earlier" and the ink was dry.

In my extensive experience tinsel keeps it's smell. In fact it gets better with age. It's musty dusty so ages like a fine wine Grin

I don't care where it comes from I just love the smell!

BiddyPop · 19/10/2015 09:41

I had to go to Woodies (a Homebase equivalent) yesterday (for tomato food, bird seed and worktop oil - the excitement!!). Took 5 minutes wandering through the Christmas display - but was good and didn't purchase anything.

I also had to go into Smyths, to get an additional booster seat for the car (have 2 extras for car pool today) so DD wandered around looking at everything and pointing out what Lego she'd like (all the €150+ sets!!), although accepting that the Police truck is good and some of the other cheaper sets are good too. So I can breathe again about that.

I also managed to oil the worktop last night, which had been on my list to do for ages. And get caught up on the regular housework.

Today I am on a half day at work because of the car pool. So I drove to work (usually get the train these days) and I am emptying most things from under my desk into the car to go home. 2 bags for Halloween and another 3 Christmas going home today, but I'm not bringing the box of lego, 1 other bag for DD or the wine home yet. It will be nice to have room to get my feet underneath the desk again though!! Xmas Grin

Now I can openly discuss Christmas plans!

Paperblank · 20/10/2015 08:19

Constantly you definitely can - in fact I almost think it would be rude not to Smile

ConstantlyCooking · 20/10/2015 08:47

Grin I tend to read this thread as my guilty secret through much of the year. Now suddenly, I am leaving it too late for some Christmas preparation (OK - maybe only too late for complicated handmade gifts to be sent surface mail to Australia) but still …

ConstantlyCooking · 20/10/2015 08:49

I have just discovered that the last surface mail posting dates have already passed for all non-European countries!

OrnamentalAsAnything · 20/10/2015 17:10

Oops, I fell off here, baby and holiday plans took over a bit.
Not feeling ready for Xmas at all (and will be baby's first, so needs to be extra fabulous). Also need to tone down the gifts for DS (5) - he has too much as it is. But a 5yo needs a good pile under the tree, right? Help!

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 21/10/2015 15:30

With a 5 yo, they need a Big Box Present ( I noticed huge trolleys of toys being wheeled about in the Sainsburys 50% off Toy Sale) and some smaller, brightly wrapped ones (and Stocking + Christmas Eve Hamper ]fgrin] ). And if you can put wrapping paper across the door to jump through..

Babies need a Christmas Outfit so you can take them out to the park with the 5yo to run some of the energy off.
I used to cook Christmas Dinner while my parents took DS and DD to the park.

64 it's Autumney now (aka raining and cold but with added golden leaves)

Feels Hallowe'eney........................... Grin

OrnamentalAsAnything · 22/10/2015 13:44

He does need a new bike, actually.
We do the Xmas Eve hamper, stockings, gifts from us, gifts from Santa - it feels a bit much.

Definitely doing the paper in the doorway again, he loves that. :) Thanks.

Very windy here. Hello autumn.
