Christmas songs that give you The Rage?

I love Christmas songs. I have a huge playlist and I'm forcing helping the DCs to learn all the words. But hearing Wizzard just gives me the utter Rage. Xmas Angry (Elsewhere I mean, it's obviously banned from the house.)

It's just shite. Even as a child I realised that the anticipation is all part of the big day. Every day?! Go do one Roy Wood.

Ah, that feels better. Go on, your turn....

Ha! I've got that music channel on for dd2 right now Xmas Grin

BunnyLebowski · 20/12/2013 11:05

The Paul McCartney one. Wonderful Chrismas Time. It makes me murderous.

And the Jonah Lewie one that sounds like he's muttering into a paper bag. Stop the Cavalry.

I like the Wizzard one

ZombieBelle · 20/12/2013 11:06

I'd have to agree with you. Imagine how dull it would be to have christmas every single bloody day. Once a year is more than enough!

What gives me the rage is when the radio/music channels play christmas songs that aren't christmassy, they just happened to be christmas no.1

I'm sorry but cladding yourself in faux fur and singing some shite while fake snow falls around you a christmas song does not make.

MinnieBar · 20/12/2013 11:10

I've remembered another couple - not so prevalent fortunately. A few years back Ronan Keating did a cover of Fairytale of New York and took out the swearing. A fucking travesty Xmas Grin

And I have a cd of 'old' songs that includes Adam 'Do you know I was big in the sixties, no really, your mum fancied me' Faith singing 'Lonely pup in a Christmas shop'. Even for a Christmas song it's cutesy, OTT schmaltz.

The Proclaimers' one. I've heard it every day this week on the radio driving along. Can't change station fast enough. I think Chrissie Hind is stalking me.

MinnieBar · 20/12/2013 11:12

Ah yes, ZombieBelle - Spice Girls were very guilty of that. At least they're not playing Bob the Builder though...

That would be "The Pretenders" then; as far as I know, the Proclaimers have never released a Christmas song

read before you press Send

ShatnersBassoon · 20/12/2013 11:12

That Jona Lewie one, Stop the Cavalry is it? Makes my heart sink.

GeordieCherry · 20/12/2013 11:13

The John Lennon one. Merry Christmas war is over. Miserable bastard

I like the Cavalry 'rom pom pom' one Grin

ipswichwitch · 20/12/2013 11:13

I hate Fairytale of New York

I also hate that Mariah Carey one but that's entirely reasonable.

HyvaPaiva · 20/12/2013 11:16

The Leona Lewis one about 'sleeps' til Christmas, insufferable shite!

I love both good and so-bad-it's-good Christmas music and still that one makes my teeth itch.

MinnieBar · 20/12/2013 11:16

Arf PeterParker I was googling 'Proclaimers Christmas song' while thinking to myself 'Really? And it's on every day??'

Original Mariah (she's on fire) = have quite a soft spot for.
Remake with The Bieber = wrist-slittingly bad.

Hey Mr Churchill...

I tried to find some digital christmas radio stations last week and failed. Any suggestions anyone? Then I'll probably be back within 5minutes to add my most annoying entry to you list Xmas Smile

DingDongUriGelleryOnHigh · 20/12/2013 11:19

That new one, is it Kelly Clarkson? Sounds like the Saturdays trying to cover The Crystals but making a it shitty mess of it, and its on all the time Angry

I love the Waitresses but I haven't heard it this year, if they've removed it to give the Kelly Clarkson one airtime, they need to stop it now!

lottieandmia · 20/12/2013 11:24

Fairytale of New York - can't stand it.

MinnieBar · 20/12/2013 11:24

You mean you forgot cranberries too? Love The Waitresses. Spice Girls did a crappola cover as a b-side.

Haven't heard Kelly Clarkson as my car radio is broken, and although I've bought a new one sodding Halfords only fit on the weekend - no chance.

I've just discovered that Doris Day has a Christmas album. HOW DID I NOT KNOW THIS??!!

Geckos48 · 20/12/2013 11:25

"wonderful christmas time' HATE it, its awful, its a crap song

'Driving home for Christmas' its CRAP it would never get air-time if it weren't for it having sodding Christmas in the title.

I really like the wizzard one (though yes the lyrics are crap) as are 'and there won't be snow in Africa' there will be snow on the mountains you blithering fool

I do quite like that song also though.

I also really like the Mariah Carey one because it reminds me of Love Actually but I keep it very secret

I've said this dozens of times this year but Mistletoe and Wine makes me want to kick kittens.

thisismyYuleTimenickname · 20/12/2013 11:30

The Mariah Carey one, ouch my ears.
Baby it's cold outside, after I heard why people had problems with the lyrics, it was ruined.

NigellasDealer · 20/12/2013 11:30

''do they know it's Christmas time at aaaaaallllllllllllllll'

MinnieBar · 20/12/2013 11:32

'Do they even know it's Christmas time at all?'

No, not if they celebrate Eid.

Makes me want to kick Cliff, SMorgauseBordOfChristmasTat

I'd not really thought about it, but yes, Baby It's Cold outside is rather... coercive. No means no, at Christmas too!
