pickofthepops · 17/10/2013 12:45

is it just me or are the Northern Lights only at the, erm, North Pole? Just read this on some sleb news email update thing I signed up to got junkmailed.

pickofthepops · 17/10/2013 12:46

"Harry's been training in Iceland for his walk to the South Pole in November," an insider told Heat magazine.

"[He] has fallen in love with the country. He wants to propose somewhere close to his heart... he wants to take Cressida and pop the question under the Northern Lights.

Lurleene · 17/10/2013 12:49

I've just been to Sainsburys and they had packs of 4 champagne glasses or flutes reduced by 70% to £1.80 a pack. I bought some glasses for the Christmas table and they are very nice quality for the price.

ScarerAndFuck · 17/10/2013 12:49

I think you can see the Northern Lights from parts of Scotland if they are particularly spectacular, and on occasion they have been reported in parts of the north of England as well.

I have never seen them. DH saw them every night for about a month once and I was Envy about it. He says they are beautiful and if you get the chance to see them, take it.

bluesky · 17/10/2013 12:49

were they plain Lurleene?

I've not posted on here before as I've not had anything useful to offer (and I struggle to keep up with the thread) and I'm not going to comment on any individual's behaviour as I think enough has been said and it's unecessary for me to say anything but I just wanted to say that I've been following the last three or four threads and have found it really useful. Some of the things I've got are for Christmas but really I've just found it a much more useful (and time effective!) way of finding bargains than trying to use HUKD or the MSE grabbit boards as the format of this thread and the demographic of this site means that the deals are fairly densely packed and more likely to be relevent to me. I also like that there is some chat/cameradie even though I haven't really taken part rather than just deals as it makes it a nicer read plus sometimes I have missed a deal and only realised because people were still discussing it further down the thread (eg the yumi bag deal). So anyway, I just wanted to say Thanks to all those who have made this thread the wonderfully useful and usually positive/enjoyable thread that it is.

Right everyone, this is a CHRISTMAS thread. Christmas is the time of festive cheer and good will to all wo men. Can we keep this thread as it is intended? Please? I think it just gets everyone down when things get all unnecessary. Let's just spread the good will of bargains and present ideas (and I don't care if they come from HDUK).

Isaac I'm going to pm you Cake Brew and lots of Wine

Also, I know this is completely by the by and probably a bit inappropriate but I Grin just a little bit where there was a bun fight going on but scattered in amongst were lots of random '20% off at xx' type comments from people not realising what they were posting in the middle of. Sorry, I'm not sure I should have admitted that Blush

I went to tesco this morning. They had a christmas busy book for £5 I got for DD. Might give her the book on 1st december and then give her a new figure every day for a while (was a mat and at least 10 figures e.g. rocking horse, tree, father christmas etc. All could also be hung on the tree as have gold string on). Might work for a cheap homemadey advent calendar and could disperse the figures with little chocolatey things to bulk them through the month.

Lying in bed recovering after eventually catching DS's D&V bug last night (whoever invented lucozade has my biggest thanks) now feel sufficiently well to get back to the bargains.

Atterley Road have a "up to 70% off " sale - quite a few jewellery and scarves in their under £20 section
like this Hobbs clover necklace down to £10 from £22. Might be worth a browse for ourselves DSis/Sil/friends etc

HereComesHoneyBooBooDragon · 17/10/2013 13:05

Hawkmoth · 17/10/2013 13:12

I've got a bit of a hole in my Christmas mountain... I have the Peepo set for baby and Snowman & Snowdog for DS... DD, who will be 8 by Christmas has no book/toy set. Ideas? I went through the puffin/penguin website with no joy.

Theonlyoneiknow · 17/10/2013 13:13

The black friday threads were fab last year! I was on mat leave will have to fit it into my working day this year :(

FriskyHenderson · 17/10/2013 13:13

I have been shopping in person for the first time in a vain attempt to stop the postman complaining, instead he just saw me carrying the bags out of the car and how disappointed am I. No Christmas throws, not a large selection of toys - they claimed to be up to 50% off but were just normal price- and the rest was a bit meh.

Only one Christmas duvet design (and only two on the shelf) but it was in the 342 offer. They had some ok Christmas tableware also in the 342.

But I did use the 20% off picture voucher linked above - thanks for that Grin

Thorntons (in store) had some bargains today. As well as the 5 for £20 which has been running a while (but i hadn't realised when looking online how big the boxes included were), they had the very large premium boxes down to £4 each. Look much more expensive.

BeaWheesht · 17/10/2013 13:19

Bea and neddle - ds is turning 7 at Christmas some ideas based on him:

Metal detector
Home made spy kit (see my other thread)
Hudl tablet
Airstorm archery set
Stunt scooter
Disney infinity starter pack
Tickets to football match
Playmobil football stadium - am seriously considering this.
Anything avengers related
Anything toy soldiers related

Fluffytent · 17/10/2013 13:20

Hope you are ok bymoonlight ?

It really really looks like a very one sided bullying session previously this morning.

My DH says to say it may appear to a lot of people that you are behaving like crazy ladies with ishoos (sic) . By all means debate but don't pull the crying card and the I'm off card at the first sign of another opinion.

iloveholidays · 17/10/2013 13:22

for anyone who has been online all morning... is it worth me reading the last x hundred messages to find any bargains?

for someone supposedly trying to stop the threads filling up so fast they've done a pretty good job of it this morning!!!!

so in my cheeky fashion and hopefully to help reastie, have any bargains been listed this morning?
