The one after Robotgate, away in a manger it’s the 4th Christmassy bargain thread

Away in a manger is a nod to girlwiththeyellowhats - we await a live birth thread on here Wink no pressure to call your DC Holly or Noel

I can?t believe we are on the fourth thread already I blame robotgate for using up the last thread Wink . Please forgive the fact that so many sale and amazon products aren?t individually linked or are linked but price may since change by the time you click on it - so many of them are out of stock and amazon seem to change prices on an almost hourly basis (it feels like) on a number of items that were previously linked to. As usual please tell me if any of these links/codes don?t work or if there?s anything particularly you want to be in the next OP (assuming there is another Wink ) how would I do any shopping without you now

Thanks for all your help in helping my christmas shopping in 2013 be once again bargainous Grin

joymaker These advent candles are cute, I've ordered one here

iloveholidays · 01/09/2013 20:50

Oooh Shoop, candle is a nice idea for the hamper. :)

Think I need to start plotting mine... Any other nice ideas? :)

shoppingbagsundereyes · 01/09/2013 20:53

Ooh thanks for the squinkies. Just bought the pack for dd's stocking. She loves that kind of crap :)

VoldemortsNipple · 01/09/2013 21:01

Before you start buying squinkies dispenses, I've just been looking at the individual items on Amazon and apparently the Disney carriage is a dispenser.

Leilandri · 01/09/2013 21:01

So what do you ladies put in your Christmas Eve hampers? I've never done one, but I like the idea! Is it for DC's to open, for whole family or for you and/or DP/H?

SpottyTeacakes · 01/09/2013 21:04

Leil there's a CEH thread I've just been reading with great ideas on

sameoldIggi · 01/09/2013 21:07

Leilandri, if you haven't done one before, and want to save money, for goodness sake don't start doing hampers!

When ever you all start posting about them I just stick my fingers in ears going "lalalala". Same as when that elf is mentioned!
Am all about less cost, less hassle this year Grin

SpottyTeacakes · 01/09/2013 21:09

I'm doing primark PJs, bath bomb, reindeer food, hot choc sachet and that's it. Cheep and cheerful Smile

ShoopShoop · 01/09/2013 21:09

Thanks Spotty :). I'm not sure what "flavour" to get....might check out the ones in my local Yankee Candle shop, and then shop online for a better bargain.

I'm not sure ilove - this is the first year I've done a hamper! DD will be 2.5 and we'll be spending Christmas with my folks, so away from home. I wanted to do DD a little hamper with jim jams, chocolate Santa, Peppa Pig Christmas collection, something for the bath (flannel / small person friendly bath bomb) etc.

Then I thought I'd do one for me, DH, DM and DD with the candle, lovely chocolates, Prosecco, homemade rhubarb vodka, homemade Christmas biscotti, etc. Just a few decadent bits and bobs really. Mum's doing all the catering for the day itself (apart from the pudding which I do), so I wanted the hamper to be my contribution IYSWIM?

ShoopShoop · 01/09/2013 21:11

Oooh - and a book for DD too :)

iloveholidays · 01/09/2013 21:19

Shoop sounds lovely, I'm thinking of doing one for me and DP this year!!

Snazzyenjoyingsummer · 01/09/2013 21:36

I'm also less well off this year and am not doing a full hamper, nor the elf - I always think it sounds like it complicates things unnecessarily. However, I do now do the Xmas PJs which I shamelessly stole from here. That goes into a 'minimal' Xmas Eve tradition where we have new PJs and watch a Christmas film. Smile

Oreocrumbs · 01/09/2013 21:39

I'm doing a hamper but will only buy new pjs for DD (which I would be anyway), some hot choc ingredients (my theory is snowman soup, practice might turn out to be a sachet of cadburys instant), popcorn and santa's snack (and carrots for Rudolph).

I already have various Christmas DVD's, a copy of TNBC, a special plate for santa's snack and Christmas mugs for us. They only ever come out on Christmas eve and live in my special cupboard for the rest of the year.

Because of the nature of our work Christmas is manic, and we don't really stop and down tools until Christmas eve evening, so I want to keep things simple.

sameoldIggi · 01/09/2013 21:45

Have just scoured the end of the M&S sale, no gifty bargains to report.
Have found a site that does lovely stickers to decorate your car or van with, if you know anyone who has a beetle or camper this may appeal - www.hippymotors.co.uk

JustasmallGless · 01/09/2013 21:48

I do mine on 1st December and the only new things in are Xmas Pjs and a new Xmas DVD which I have already bought for £2.40!
I like doing the pjs earlier to get the wear out of them iyswim. They obviously wear them till they grow out of them but I like them to have new pjs in run up to Xmas

VoldemortsNipple · 01/09/2013 21:48

Can i just say for anybody sitting on the fence about Christmas Eve hampers. There will come a day when so many of your lovely traditions become redundant. The story before bed, leaving out Santa snacks, elf on the shelf... But the hampers are something that the dcs won't grow out of. My youngest is 11 now and I'm so glad I started the whole hamper thing a few years back. (we always had new pjs anyway) it doesn't have to cost a lot. You could even wrap up their favorite pjs, add a tin of chocs that you had in for Christmas, a bottle of fizzy pop, a Christmas book you were planning on reading and time it so they have had their bath and pjs on ready for The Snowman on tv Smile

Oreocrumbs · 01/09/2013 21:51

Another tip for the hamper - If you make the box, covering a cardboard box with wrapping paper, then you have a good place to chuck all the wrapping paper on Christmas morning that looks better in the photo's than a black bin bag Wink.

I'm fully aware I'm a ponce Grin

JustasmallGless · 01/09/2013 21:54

Oreo what a bloody marvellous idea - why did I never think of this before??

Oreocrumbs · 01/09/2013 21:57

I don't think I can claim full credit for it.

I heard or read the idea somewhere (quite probably mumsnet) - not for the hamper bit, but for a neat place to put the paper, and thought, well you could kill two birds with one stone really.

VoldemortsNipple · 01/09/2013 21:59

Personally I think the photos look better when you can't see the floor for wrapping paper Grin but dh is a spoilsport and has the paper in the binbag before the dcs have had time to turn the box over.

iloveholidays · 01/09/2013 22:05

I'm with you on that one VoldemortsNipple :) no tidying up until all presents are open :)

ilikesweetpeas · 01/09/2013 22:10

Thank you for the body shop code, got some lovely gifts with the 40% off

Leilandri · 01/09/2013 22:19

I'm with you there Voldemort. I scrunch and throw, Ds's follow suit. DH grabs the black bag and gathers at an astonishing speed only time he's ever fast at housework Grin
I am liking the idea of a hamper I must admit. Our elf departs on Xmas Eve and leaves new PJ's behind, and some chocs. Might have the elf leave a hamper instead, but continue with pj's, chocs, hot chocolate and reindeer food. I like the idea of the tradition continuing once DS's are grown. We were always allowed to open a pressie on Xmas Eve, we always had to save one for Boxing Day too, stretched it out to more than one manic day.

PoppyWearer · 01/09/2013 22:21

I've done a hamper the past two years, last year we had an elf for the first time and the elf left the hamper when she departed whilst the DCs were at the church service on Christmas Eve.

I also wrapped a large box and used it for the recycling paper. Grin
