Online supermarket deliveries - how have they fared this year?

Who have you used, did they get there on time and did you get any subs/missing items?

Thought it would be useful to compare - in prep for next year.

This year I bit the bullet and paid for Ocado* as Waitrose failed to deliver the previous two years.

They were due at 5:30pm today.

They phoned at 4:30, said they were int he area and would I like my shopping early. So it arrived at just before 5.

Had had the text earlier in the day to say that it was on its way with nothing missing and no subs.

Very impressed.

Granted no snow this year, but Ocado was one of very few that did get through last year to ours neighbours.

Sainsburys - arrived 30mins early (had a phone call from the driver to check that was okay)
substitutions:
apple juice for apple and pear juice
instore mince pies instead of one box of normal mince pies (v nice BTW Xmas Smile)
4 lindt chocolate santas instead of the christmas tree chocolates that I wanted ( but every cloud and all that)

shortdated items:
one box of blackberries
brussel sprouts (go over on Sunday so should be fine)

All in all absolutely fine. V happy and planning to do the same next year.

Thefoxsbrush · 23/12/2011 22:43

Sainsbury's delivery 22nd 8-9pm was very prompt, friendly delivery man, all items there with only one substitution (normal mince pies for mini mince pies) also they put everything that would be out of date before 25th in blue bags so you could easily check and return whilst driver still there (only seabass out of date on 24th)

Apricots · 23/12/2011 22:44

Tesco delivered 15 mins into my delivery slot - only substitution was sprouts instead of parsnips - not sure they would have done that substitution if it hadn't been Xmas & sprouts are banned in this house!

Jojay · 23/12/2011 22:46

Tesco here - arrived on time, nice driver helped me unpack.

Only substitutions were unimportant ones like flavours of cat food.

But you can't order a bloody turkey - what's that all about???

katz · 23/12/2011 22:47

Waitrose - 47 mins late and counting!

Sausagesarenottheonlyfruit · 23/12/2011 22:48

Tesco: arrived at 6:30 during 6:00-8:00 time slot.
Order complete with 2 minor subs (different box of mushrooms, mint choc thins instead of orange).
Saved clubcard points all year so was "free" as well!
Very happy, will do same next year.

KenDoddsDadsDog · 23/12/2011 22:49

Sainsburys. 30 mins early but phoned beforehand. Only one substitute, happy days.

WhoKnowsWhereTheMistletoes · 23/12/2011 22:50

Ocado - yesterday, phoned to check first and delivered 40 mins early. 3 reasonable substitutions:

Eggs - different brand
Tinned pears instead of peaches
Two small tubs of cream cheese instead of one big one

Also got an email today opening up delivery slots all day tomorrow (24th) again

Sidge · 23/12/2011 22:51

Tesco delivery last night - arrived halfway through 7-9 slot, all products present, nothing unavailable.

A few substitutions but all sensible ones - roule with cranberries subbed with plain roule, and a bog standard £2 brie swapped with a Finest £5 one! Large pack of stuffing subbed with 2 smaller ones.

Driver was lovely and helpful if rather tired - I offered him a drink but he declined. Probably just wanted to get home.

HollyPricklesMyFanjo · 23/12/2011 22:51

ASDA here. Bloody brilliant, 2 substitues both better and more pricey than ordered but only paid for the price of ordered items. They even delivered things that I could not even find in the shops last year. Have not had to set foot in an actual shop for any shopping this year. Bliss Xmas Smile

PeaceofCakeAndGoodWineToAllMN · 23/12/2011 22:52

Ocado: turned up bang on time, no substitutions, polite & helpful driver, food has a good shelf date. But...expensive, £9.99 on top of the monthly charge (bastards) and have delivered me the biggest goose I've ever seen. We're going to be eating it for weeks. Would have like to have chosen the size.

DingDongFruitShootsMakeYouHigh · 23/12/2011 22:52

Sainsbury's

about an hour early although the latest day I could get was Wednesday (booked 2 weeks ago) and I know other supermarkets were delivering later.

A couple of substitutions and what seemed like a lot of shortdated items but on checking there was a leaflet that explained they had highlighted all the items that were out of date by Christmas day, so in reality there were prob no more than usual.

Hulababy · 23/12/2011 22:53

Katz - it was because of you I got curious, wanted to see if my tenner was well spent or just luck! Hope it comes soon; think I'd have to leave Dh up waiting!

ebbandflow · 23/12/2011 22:54

Sainsburys-delivered on time, no substitutions, three shortdated fruit and veg, had to nip out to get more brussel sprouts today. Tis all good

Pascha · 23/12/2011 22:55

Waitrose - 20 mins late with a call from the driver before time was up to let me know. 7 substitutions all for reasonable equivalents. Mostly happy.

katz · 23/12/2011 22:55

Hula - lol! Problem is if I leave DH up to wait then he make accept random substitutions!

Hulababy · 23/12/2011 22:57

That's true!

Really hope they have a decent compensation gift for you this year.

Not strictly a delivery, but I did a Tesco Click and Collect. Collected yesterday 20 mins into collection slot, drove straight up, no waiting, nice man helped me load up my boot. Took about 4 minutes, all items there, no substitutions.

cairnterrier · 23/12/2011 23:05

Xmas Shock £10 for a delivery slot??

Am pretty sure that mine was normal price for a Friday. (£5.50 I think, which is far less than the amount that I would normally spend on rubbish if I went to the store!).

wasuup3000 · 23/12/2011 23:07

Tesco's came just over an hour into slot time. 6 items missing but had ordered 2 of 2 of the items and got one of them each anyway. Out of the other 4 items only one was important and can live without the rest. Didn't ask for substitutions.

HollyGoDroopy · 23/12/2011 23:09

Asda- not that good TBH.

Lots of subs. 2 grumpy delivery men.

They charged me for mouthwash and didn't send it.

Hulababy · 23/12/2011 23:11

cairnterrier - Ocado was £9.99 for all slots today, and most of Christmas week. Normally I have the annual pass, but still have to pay full for Christmas week.

OP posts:
katz · 23/12/2011 23:13

Still waiting and the store don't know when it'll be here.

BensonBunny · 23/12/2011 23:14

Waitrose delivered here this morning. On time but about 10 substitutions, most of which went back. I walked down there this afternoon and found all but 2 items in the shop, I think they picked my order last night when the shelves were empty! Not very impressed to be honest, I think I'll email them as they are ususally much better.
