Online supermarket deliveries - how have they fared this year?

Who have you used, did they get there on time and did you get any subs/missing items?

Thought it would be useful to compare - in prep for next year.

Tesco at 8 in a 7 to 9 slot.

Quite a few subs but all reasonable and fine.

4 un available items - cranberry sauce and sprouts the two that are definitely needed meaning I will have to set foot in a shop tomorrow.

Annoyed by that. Should have picked a morning slot I think.

BitchyHen · 23/12/2011 23:21

Tesco - delivery slot booked between 4 and 6pm today.
Texted this am to let me know would arrive between 4 and 5.
Arrived at 4.05.
1 sub - 2 smaller packets of cheese instead of 1 big one (same brand) price matched so no extra charge.
Delivery driver was friendly - one of the regular drivers who delivers my weekly shop.

Good to see so many of us received good service. We're quick to complain, but Tesco have always done a good job with my deliveries.

FrozenNorthPole · 23/12/2011 23:25

Waitrose - delivered at 8.30pm for 8 - 10pm delivery slot. Delivery free. A number of substitutions but all of virtually identical products. Only entirely absent item: mince pies.

Still struggle to believe there wasn't a SINGLE mince pie left in the shop they could have sent ...

However, v good and nice delivery man. All in all, really happy!

PattySimcox · 23/12/2011 23:26

Sainsburys order on Wed, few minor subs
Waitrose order yesterday, one minor sub

Both within time slot and free delivery

ApplesinmyPocket · 23/12/2011 23:27

Tesco - due 9-11, texted to say would be here between 9:20 and 10:20, arrived 10 ish.

Only one sub and it was a sensible one (different kind of fresh fruit salad)

Added bonus: one bag of shopping was duplicated (and not charged for) so 4 melons instead of 2, two bags of bananas, etc. I didn't notice till later and I've been shopping online with Tesco since the very first year so I figured they could treat me for once Xmas Smile

lucysmam · 23/12/2011 23:42

Asda here, on Monday (had planned to buy fresh from market today...in need of peace from 2 kids) no problems at all, early delivery on 12-2pm slot, friendly driver, only one sub for mince which was Smartprice for a spag bol for myself and dp on footy night, smaller pack. It'll feed both of us with no leftovers for kids the following lunchtime but that's not a problem (dp always starving by time he gets in)

katz · 24/12/2011 00:02

Waitrose 2 hours and still waiting, no phone call, no food - gonna have to brave the supermarket tomorrow I guess.

sleepevader · 24/12/2011 00:39

Bloody hell Katz. What a pain.

Am definately doing an Online shop next year- If I remember to book a slot!

Latsia · 24/12/2011 00:46

Ocado. On time, no substitutions, always very happy with their Christmas deliveries. They were the only supermarket to get through to us in the snow last year.

JollyJinglyJoo · 24/12/2011 00:53

Tesco- slot was 8-10pm, texted to say between 9 and 10, arrived just after 10.

Huge shop, only a couple of things unavailable (not very important things), 2 subs (silly ones! they substitued korma powder for star anise and oregano for bay leaves, sent back) BUT I did get a 750ml bottle of brandy subbed for a 35cl one, and at least all my alcohol came Xmas Grin so fairly happy (and relieved, after my anxiety dreams where they missed off all the wine, and the delivery driver's wife came at me from the van with a frying pan when I dared to be a bit upset Xmas Confused)

herecomesthsun · 24/12/2011 04:42

Waitrose on 22nd, 8-10pm, arrived 8.15, I sub - slightly cheaper raspberries. Very happy. (Also had a delivery on 17th, 3 very reasonable substitutions.)

I did however enter in the comments box that I wanted sell by dates at least 4 days after purchase on perishable items like cream. In previous years I have had items arrive that were due to expire on the 23rd or 24th,not much good for a Xmas shop. This year, all the dates were well into next week, very happy.

I have done a very small amount of shopping for individual items in the past week, delighted to have been spared a mega supermarket ordeal.

Doyouthinktheysaurus · 24/12/2011 07:34

Ocado did well. Arrived on time, only one sensible substitution kof different type of croissants. Overall, very pleased.

Last year I did Tesco and had a lot more substitutions.

mummymccar · 24/12/2011 07:44

Sainsburys here - delivered 30 mins early (great), lovely driver who carried it all into the house because I'm pg, a few subs but all ok except that the picker gave me loads of Xmas day veg that went off last night. Even the delivery man wondered what on earth the picker was thinking.

Balderdabble · 24/12/2011 07:53

Tesco

Arrived at start of 8-10 time slot and driver was friendly.

Unfortunately we had over a page of substitutions - some ok like 2 smaller packs instead of 1 but some useless. And on top, another 10 items that they didn't substitute. So DH up early for a trip to Waitrose this am!

We've been big tesco advocates for years but this is the third order in a row that has meant a trip somewhere else afterwards. I'd saved up all our club card vouchers for Christmas, otherwise I think I'd have tried Waitrose. Will definitely be trying somewhere else next time.

OnTheBen10DaysofChristmas · 24/12/2011 07:53

mummymmccar Email Sainsburys re your shortdated veg. I had lots of shortdated stuff so got a voucher for £12.50 back from them. Apparently they are meant to pick with a 4 day life at least according to customer services.

MrsCog · 24/12/2011 08:01

Sainsbury's delivered 30 mins in to slot, I ask for no subs, but only 2 items missing (shallots and ???) but not a problem anyway. Nothing short dated - although I am quite Xmas Hmm that people rush out to make sure their sprouts and parsnips are 'in date', dating those products is just a supermarket con - they'll be fine! Completely understand with meat etc. though.

GwendolineMaryLacedwithBrandy · 24/12/2011 08:18

Tesco last night between 8-9. Came about 8.45. Driver very chirpy and chatty. Three missing items, cheesecake and cream being amongst them but nothing essential. Hadn't asked for subs, fool that I am.

wonkylegs · 24/12/2011 08:19

Tesco - arrived on time
4 substitutions - 1 weird (went back), 2 reasonable, 1 exceptional (ordered regular dessert for tonight ... Have got a beautiful and rather fancy one as substitution that would have cost a bloody fortune if I'd chosen it myself)
2 omissions - both fine
1 broken - discovered after man left but refunded over the phone... Which is fine but annoying as I can't get a substitution anywhere

katz · 24/12/2011 08:19

Still no food, noidea if I'm getting my food, now stupidly tired having gone o bed very late waiting and then getting up early to try and sort it. Have a stinking cold and really don't want to have to go to the supermarket on top of everything else we have planned.

mummymccar · 24/12/2011 08:23

Ontheben - ooh I didn't know that, thanks for the advice! Will e-mail today or 27th (depending in how long everything takes today)

Katz - how appalling! Have they taken the money out of your account?

rookiemater · 24/12/2011 08:39

We have had mint sauce instead of cranberry sauce. Merry Blinkin Christmas.

Wish I had just added it on to the M&S order, they don't let you down. I got 2 free huge profiterole towers from them as they had given my slightly larger profiterole tower order to someone else by mistake.

Still at least it arrived, Katz that is awful no delivery.

Asda delivered to me slot was 9-11. Shopping turned up 9.20 lovely delivery man. 5 subs one went back. I will add I'm not cooking Christmas dinner so it wasn't a massive order.

Hulababy · 24/12/2011 08:47

Can't believe they have let you down so badly Katz. Think you have made the right decision now to just cancel and go shopping, but what a nightmare for you. Do email them later and play merry hell!

I had assumed their bad service the last two years was down tot he snow, but maybe not... so bad :(
