Supermarket survivors.....

I survived! Xmas Grin

We did our food shop today (first to Lidl who had no festive food whatsoever) then to Sainsbury's. Blimey it was scary in there Xmas Shock Utterly bonkers. Inevitably there was no sage and various shortages but I decided I didnt care, if they didnt have it we'd do with out - I'm not going back this side of Christmas.

Good job though that I had dh with me, my back was particularly bad and making me feel a bit odd so I couldnt actually get anywhere I needed to. I just wasnt fast enough. I ended up letting everyone past and smiling at them in a rather mad way while they thanked me for letting them through Xmas Grin if it hadnt been for dh I would still be there stuck by the potatoes.

Anyone else feel like they deserve a 'well done' for surviving?

We are off to the local massive tesco in a minute to do fund-raising bag-packing!
If it's mad busy people are more generous Xmas Smile
I'm am always Shock at the people with 2 or even 3 trolley loads of stuff.

OhYouBadBadReindeer · 22/12/2011 17:13

Xmas Smile what a lovely thing for you to do. I hope it goes well.

The most stressful thing I have to do today is to edit my Ocado order before it is delivered on Christmas Eve.

TheAnnoyingSatsuma · 22/12/2011 17:14

Thanks Xmas Smile
I shall have a large Wine when I get home.

Funny, I went to Tesco's today and it was nowhere as near as bad as I'd thought - minimal queues and plenty of spaces in car park.

Good people of Royston, where are you all shopping?? Xmas Grin

roastparsnipsandbrusselsprouts · 22/12/2011 17:19

I survived 2 trips to Morrisons and 1 trip to Tesco today. Do I get a special prize even though I haven't put any of it away yet?

OhYouBadBadReindeer · 22/12/2011 17:20

they have driven many miles Cambridge to come and shop here, poor sad fools.
Or perhaps I should have tried Tesco's instead....

Booked a delivery in October. Not sure if that makes me smug, or sad - possibly a bit of both. Xmas Grin

OhYouBadBadReindeer · 22/12/2011 17:21

Blimey roastparsnips - that is very impressive (or you are very absent minded)

hellhasnofury · 22/12/2011 17:21

I did mine last night. Tesco was surprisingly calm and it cost me £12. DH was most impressed.

OhYouBadBadReindeer · 22/12/2011 17:21

lagrandissima that makes you an awful lot more prepared than me!

DH and DD1 survived Sainsbury's.
DD2 and I retired to the cafe. She's still feeling washed out and tired. She didn't want to stay at home and I didn't want to leave the lot to DH.

insanityscratching · 22/12/2011 17:23

We've done Tesco today and it wasn't too bad at all. Won't need to shop again now before Christmas but will pick up meat order, bread order and fruit and veg from butcher, bakery and veg stall on Christmas Eve.

OhYouBadBadReindeer · 22/12/2011 17:24

startail - I've missed the bit about your dd2, has she been one of the unfortunate lurgified? Poor love.

I save my club card vouchers all year and use them toward my Christmas shop Wink

OhYouBadBadReindeer · 22/12/2011 17:28

Must have just been where we live then. But well done Insanity for not having been driven insane!

Thanks Reindeer!

Not too forgetful but didn't buy some things in Morrisons as thought they would be better in Tesco. Tesco didn't have them so went back to Morrisons Xmas Confused

Managed to time the second visit to Morrisons with the Secondary school emptying in there for lunch which improved the situation no end.

I have also realised I don't have room for it all in the fridge and cupboards.

I know the shops are only closed for 2 days but I don't want to go anywhere for a few days after Christmas. I have lovely pjs washed and ready for hibernation. Xmas Grin

2kidsintow · 22/12/2011 18:32

I did mine today at Tesco. Sent the kids off to look at the toys and went around filling my trolley.

Was a bit busier than normal, but apart from a few inconsiderate people who blocked the aisles while selecting their items with their trolley at a mad angle beside them it was fine.

My favourite was the chap who was having an in deptyh study of the value streaky bacon....trolley blocking the aisle, hime crouched on the floor with many different packs on his knee til he chose the ones he wanted and no one being able to get anywhere near the bacon shelf til he moved.....or until I moved his trolley! Xmas Grin

It was a bit tight down by the tils, and I'm sure I forgot a few things but couldn't be bothered going back for them. Apart from a milk and bread top up on Fri I'm done.

roastparsnipsandbrusselsprouts · 22/12/2011 18:45

2kids we had a similar jam at the vol au vents (sp?) in Morrisons. The lady behind me got really stroppy. I was just letting the lady in front of me choose and then I would choose mine. Presumably she was a right grump in a big rush. Our Morrisons is highly populated by confused elderly people and I was not going to rush one of them for a stroppy and rude able bodied woman who could always have moved on and come back for her blinking vol au vents if she was in that much of a rush.

Overtiredmum · 22/12/2011 18:45

Was in my local Asda at 8.30 this morning with the kids (who weren't too happy about it, but managed to bribe them with a McDonalds brekkie!!). It wasn't any busier than normal and I got finished within 40 minutes.

Shame is, it is only shut one day for the whole of the festive season, and that is Christmas Day!! Blimey, I remember as a kid, my mum having to stock up on about 5 days worth of bread, milk, veg etc because the shops were shut for ages!

PeaceofCakeAndGoodWineToAllMN · 22/12/2011 18:46

I ordered mine online. They should block people from changing their orders more then 10 times though as I'm fairly sure I've done this. Blush I couldn't brave the supermarkets, I'm in awe of you all.

mogs0 · 22/12/2011 18:49

I don't seem to have done a big Christmas shop. Am I going to be in for a big Shock on sunday when i realise I don't have half of what I need.

I had booked a waitrose slot for delivery tomorrow but cancelled it a couple of days ago as I won't be here to receive it and didn't really need £50 worth of stuff.

I am going to lidl in a minute to get some butter and baking powder but don't expect huge queues (fingers crossed!).
