I'm thinking maybe a cashmere scarf or a remote control helicopter?

He has a scarf already though and it's a slighly dull present but then he had a RC helicopter and flew it into one the neighbours gardens never to be seen again so I'm not convinced about that either.

What are you buying?

I have bought DH a Kindle and one of the covers for it - the one with a light so he can read in bed if he wants to without keeping me awake. I have also bought him an MP3 player as he has a birthday in November. Was going to give the Kindle for birthday but have decided to give MP3 player and keep Kindle (and cover) for Christmas. I have downloaded 4 books onto it just to get him started. Have also bought him some new trousers and am doing him a small goody bag (bottle of whisky, some posh tea, posh coffee, chocolate and a book(humorous). DD1 (newly married and mortgaged (!) so short of cash is getting him a leather belt and a surprise item, DS has got him a watch and an Amazon voucher for getting books for the Kindle and DD2 has yet to decide but is great at coming up with quirky but nice gifts. He will be quite happy with these. His Mum will get him something (with help from me as she is in early stages of dementia and cannot think very well) and his brother and my sister. Just hope they don't ask me for ideas. He deserves a bit of spoiling as it has been a difficult year due to his Mum's illness.

a lovely artist friend carves sort of gnomey/ santa things out of wood, so i've commissioned her to do one for dh in army uniform (she had done a police one before that was v cool). he resigned/ retired this year, so it will sort of mark that.
and i accidentally found out he has commissioned a different artist friend to come up with a poppy picture for me, as i have been moaning and whining about needing a big ol' poppy picture for a couple of years (as you do).

FeathersMcGraw · 16/11/2011 00:05

DH hasn't asked for anything!

We have set each other a £50 limit. So far I've spotted a fab wallet on Notonthehighstreet.com (to replace the leather one that was ruined when he jumped into a swimming pool on our hols a few years back) and I'll get him some Kopi Luwak coffee (I bought him some last year and he said it was the best coffee he had ever tasted, so a winner there!) Might cheat and get him a bottle of scotch Smile

LAbaby · 16/11/2011 01:21

Personalized iPhone case with picture of our baby, from uncommon.com. It was quite expensive but combines his two favourite things so should be a hit!

EttiKetti · 16/11/2011 03:45

Filter coffee machine and bean grinder. Snore.

FloydieDoydie · 16/11/2011 04:14

DP is impossible to buy for, as he doesn't play games, want CD/DVDs, isn't an office bod, doesn't eat chocolate etc.

Am replacing his favourite army boots as he destroyed his last pair (getting stuck in a knee deep puddle on the offroad bike - with me on the back! I had to jump off before it fell over, and I still got drenched Smile).

Other than that he wants a Streetfighters magazine hoodie, but they don't has any in stock in his size. So I'm stuck now.

His birthday is 2nd January and I've renewed his Streetfighters magazine subscription and need something else too.

I know he'd really want some weird part for his road bike, but personally I don't think braided brake hoses or the like are very Christmassy!

OhdearNigel · 16/11/2011 13:19

Nothing :) We don't exchange Christmas (or birthday) presents. Neither of us want for anything.

RightUpMyRue · 16/11/2011 19:54

Oh c'mon Floydie, what's not festive about braided brake hose?!

How correct you are Rue - I could wrap tinsel around it Grin

reckoner · 18/11/2011 12:32

etip gloves. They work with smart phones £30

RightUpMyRue · 23/11/2011 18:35

Bumping for more ideas.....

New coffee pot
Quercus cologne
New chunky jumper or jeans
Books & CDs
Food from Carluccios.

What I'd love to get him is a really good camera but they all seem to be around £500 and he's so choosy he'd want to find one for himself.

mrsmplus3 · 23/11/2011 21:31

dont usually get anything special but felt the urge to treat him a bit this year.
he gave up his season ticket when we got together and got a mortgage 7 years ago so yesterday i booked 3 football game tickets for him and our son to go in jan/feb/march. think hell be delighted. and our son.

I just thought I'd come back and post what I've bought DP: A USB microscope. You plug it in your PC and whatever you're looking at is shown on your screen.

I also got him the RC helicopter.

Chunky jumper, tickets for a comedian next year, and we're combining money for Christmas and ds first birthday for the three of us to go to eurodisney in spring.

NICEyNice · 02/12/2011 16:02

Senna DVD (He loves his F1 Hmm)
T Shirt (He asked for it. Its from a wonderful little outdoor company called Alpkit - www.alpkit.com - I can not recommend this company more with the customer service they've given DH in the past. He was knocked off his bike earlier this year and he was gutted. He emailed them to see if they could repair it. They sent him a free replacement! And thats not the first time they've been brilliant )
Whisky (though I'm yet to decide on which. He's a bit of a nerd about his whisky so a bottle of Glenfiddich is not good enough Hmm.

He will not be getting anything else as the muppet managed to land himself a rather large speeding fine last month, and he's lucky I'm still speaking to him.

Incidentally, if this floats anyones boat Bruce Springsteen has a couple of dates next year. (21st June Sunderland Stadium of Light, 22nd June Manchester Eithad Stadium, 14th July London Hyde Park - Hard Rock Calling)

They are on presale at www.livenation.co.uk atm, and go on general sale tomorrow (3rd Dec). They ARE pricey at £60 odd each, but I'm sure this might be a winner for a few blokes out there. Can't recommend enough to see him live...

montmartre · 02/12/2011 16:50

NICEy- Old Poultney just won some 'best tasting whisky ever in the whole world' type thing. It's a malt whisky from the North Coast and tastes a little salty. It's very drinkable! Smile

thereistheball · 02/12/2011 17:20

DH is getting a Bonsai tree. He asked for this but I don't think he realises how much care goes into them (daily maintenance unlikely, I think). He will also get the special scissors, some Bonsai feed and a book on what to do to keep it alive.

His birthday is just after Christmas and for that he is getting some White Company bath soak and a jumper from Uniqlo. DD (4) has promised to bake him a cake.

We are also doing stockings this year. He is getting a porcelain thermos mug (more dignified for work than one of DD's old sippy cups, I feel), an iPhone case that looks like a mix tape, some tea, some hot pepper sauce, some chocolate, a paperback, a miniature of whisky. I am tempted to add a pedicure kit but it might be taken the right wrong way.

thereistheball · 02/12/2011 17:21

Fiolondon - I've always wanted to do that! We couldn't get there to pick them, unfortunately, but if we move back to the UK I am going straight on the waiting list.

Sparklyboots · 02/12/2011 21:18

Reckoner - you're a genius! ETIP gloves, and a cherry tree, thank you MN!
