Thanks, I got some clip on robins in house of Fraser, but wanted loads of cheap ones to cover the tree. I'm kicking myself I didn't bookmark the site now!!

trixymalixy · 28/11/2011 08:36

I haven't managed to find the original website I found, but have managed to find really cheap birds at about £7 for 12 on florists websites or wedding websites. They have wires rather than clips, but they'll do the job!

Alouisee · 28/11/2011 11:54

I've just died and gone to heaven. I made Blackberry Vodka and Blackberry Sake back in September. The vodka is good bit the Sake is amazing.

FellatioNelson · 28/11/2011 12:06

I made blueberry and pomegranate vodka and it is coming along nicely. The problem is, I keep using it to make a cocktail with fresh watermelon juice, which is so bloody gorgeous that there won't be any of the vodka left by Christmas. Blush

But I did subsitute some of the sugar with Splenda so that's alrigh then. Hmm

Sorry Pirate and glitter, this fell off my 'I'm on' list. Late replies!

limoncello
I use vodka. Extremely pleased with how it's turned out!

Have you left the Pomegranate seeds in the vodka? I think that might look really pretty. I've also been wondering about popping some edible glitter in the bottles (completely carried away now)

FellatioNelson · 28/11/2011 15:23

I have left them in, but also the blueberries and they will have just turned to mush I suppose, and not so pretty. Although I have strained the fruit out when I have used it so far. I really need to leave it alone now. Blush Technically it's not even ready yet. I might make some more with just pomegranate, or pomegranate and watermelon. I'm on a roll now. Grin

A what does sake taste like? I'm not sure I've ever had it, but they sell it at the QDC so I might get some.

I like the sound of limoncello. Might try that too.

Will the edible glitter dissolve do you think?

Alouisee · 28/11/2011 15:29

Sake is a fantastic drink and I've decided that its a better base than Vodka for all the Christmassy drinks. You can also have it warm which makes it very suitable for Christmas cocktails.

Im sure that edible glitter will dissolve but I'm prepared to try it in the name of all that is poncey.

I also made Jam with the berries that were steeping in the vodka and sake - Boozy jam for breakfast, i can't wait. (less obvious than vodka in your 5- alive too)

There are two types of edible glitter, one is made from sugar and will definitely dissolve. The other type is more like the stuff you stick on cards, but is non toxic so passes through safely IYGWIM!!

Or the other option is edible gold leaf a la Goldshlager.

Alouisee · 28/11/2011 19:21

Thanks Trixy!

DMCWelshCakes · 28/11/2011 22:25

Does anyone know how long a cake pop will last? I'm planning on making some pudding shaped ones to go on the Christmas cake this year & need to schedule the cake pop creation for the optimum moment.

Can't wait for this year's poncetastic Christmas...

Zeeky · 28/11/2011 22:37

Making jam out of boozy berries - fantastic idea!! I was wondering what I could use the blackberries for from my blackberry gin when I strain it. The first lot I have added to a bottle of White wine as my sister said it turns into a sherry-like fortified wine.

dearprudence · 30/11/2011 21:33

Oi, trixymalixy!

I got some clip-on robins in Tesco today. I've not seen them in there before. They were £2 for 2, and they had gold, silver or proper robin-coloured (which I bought). Still not very cheap if you want loads, but they're the cheapest I've seen. Not on 3 for 2, unfortunately.

trixymalixy · 30/11/2011 22:03

Ooh, thanks! They don't have them online, but I'll have a look instore at the weekend.

PrettyPirate · 01/12/2011 11:54

Thanks billgrangersrisotto!
Used the same recipe for my limoncello, DH is already drinking it happily, so I'm off to make another batch. Will try to get better lemons this time, the ones I used had really thin skin and I'm thinking that's why limoncello doesn't taste very lemony and it's not so nice bright yellow colour.

WaitingForMe · 02/12/2011 15:55

Strained all of my drinks last night. On the 9th December we're offering vodka martinis to my family and have espresso, pomegranate, apple sour skittles and cherry sour skittles vodkas (the last two aren't terribly poncy I fear).

Then on the evening of the 10th (at my wedding reception) we'll have shot glasses made from ice with a shooter that is half raspberry vodka (mine) and half festive spiced rum (DP's no, he'll be DH!!!). The blend of the two is the poncy joining of two fabulous poncy things.

When my mum asked where all this came from and I said MN, she seemed a bit bewildered as to contemporary conception Grin

SantaffetaClaus · 02/12/2011 18:03

DMC - in the fridge, I'd say cake pops last a few days. You could probably get them to ball stage, with sticks in and freeze them. Then you only have the decorating to do.

IME, the chocolate sticks to them easier when they are frozen anyway. But it dried very fast, so any sprinkles, glitter or topping you have to put on top very fast.

NotMostPeople · 02/12/2011 21:42

Rather late to the party, but can I join in please?

I'm semi poncetastic or tbh a poncetastic cheat. I go all out on the decorations, lots homemade mixed with some stupidly expensive johnlewis glass baubles I bought last year. However I completely cheat on the food, for example I've been known to buy an un-iced Christmas cake, feed it a bit and then decorate it.

I'm very tempted by all the lovely vodka ideas, but am I too late?

DMChristmasCakes · 02/12/2011 22:08

Thanks Santaffeta. I was going to do chocolate covering, with some white icing dribbled/drizzled on the top, then plonk a ready prepared holly leaf on the top of that. I'm thinking make the pops the weekend before Christmas & then do the actual decoration on the Friday, ready for attaching to the cake on Christmas afternoon.

SantaffetaClaus · 03/12/2011 09:55

I've just made my second batch for a fete this afternoon. My one piece of advice is to make the balls smaller than you would think, as if they are larger, they will be heavy and flop over on the cake at an angle, and also once they have the chocolate coating on they get bigger iyswim.

I'll try and post a pic on my profile of my pops.

dearprudence · 03/12/2011 14:20

Alright, ponces.

I've just made my chutneys - caramelised carrot and chilli jam. The jam looks very pretty, but the carrot looks like any old other chutney and is too dark. I wanted it all bright orange, like on the M&S sandwiches.

The christmas pudding cake pops sound brilliant. How are you putting them on your cake? How many?

liveinazoo · 03/12/2011 22:54
