What can I get my super clever Oxbridge type mum, then? The Boots 3 for 2 toiletries sets just don't cut it with her.

Even that literary stuff website (which I love, btw) isn't throwing anything up.

Can't buy her books, as she buys anything she wants herself.

brimfull · 06/12/2010 21:09

headonizer feels amazing- love it

scurry-have ordered dd some UV lenses -thanks

BelligerentGhoul · 06/12/2010 21:12

Tickets to a gallery or museum event?

PressureDrop · 06/12/2010 21:18

perusing now, Belligerent - thank you!

TheNextMrsClaus · 06/12/2010 21:18

Marigold - if you are within reach of London how about a vinopolis wine tour? I bought this for my folks last year - they were very happy.

RolandButter · 06/12/2010 21:26

My mum boffiny too. Got her a book. Then realised had agreed to buy her tea at fortnums.

RolandButter · 06/12/2010 21:28

Theatre vouchers? Rhs membership? A pot planted up for spring bulbs. We did that for dhs elderly gran once.

thighsmadeofcheddar · 06/12/2010 21:29

Right, very rich FIL (75)
Likes walking, gardening, and hot mustard.
Does NOT like reading.
Budget £30

Do your best.

BelligerentGhoul · 06/12/2010 21:31

For Boffin-mum another idea might be to go down the completely non-boffin route and buy lovely underwear or a voucher for new shoes.

grobag · 06/12/2010 21:32

For the mums who have everything, how about a 'promise' gift, all nicely written out and decorated...I promise to take you to Kew Gardens next May to see the tulips...I promise to bake you a cake on the first day of each month next year...I promise...well, you get the idea. :)

BelligerentGhoul · 06/12/2010 21:34

Rich fil -

posh oatcakes - Duchy
good cheese
posh mustard - Duchy

good walking socks and Kendal mintcake - hip flask.

titferbrains · 06/12/2010 21:36

Any suggestions for my parents who will spend next year building a new house for themselves (not actually doing it but proj. mging etc) while living in a rental house? They won't want anything for the rental place as it's chock full of furniture (they're downsizing).

MerryMarigold · 06/12/2010 21:37

What do people think of afternoon tea as a gift for uncle/ aunt in-laws?
