but i am going to withdraw my offer to help. i dont like how political this has become, and i hope that who ever does do it does a good job, because i would hate to see it fail after all this drama. thanks to all those who supported my offer, it was lovely of you all. enjoy it

I was watching the other thread and it got a bit heavy. I'm sorry that you are no longer going to do the appeal.

cherrymonster · 23/08/2010 12:51

thanks buzzing, i think people objected to it because i call people 'hun' sometimes. i dont mean it to be offensive, its a term of endearment that i use in RL. maybe i should start calling everyone 'chicken' (another of my RL terms of endearment)

Not sure you would know me cherry as I'm fairly new and have namechanged a couple of times. But I have read several of your posts and for what its worth I think your enthusiasm is just what was needed! You were treated unfairly, it was all of them behaving strangely not you!

muminthecity · 23/08/2010 12:58

Bloody hell, do we really need another thread about this?! Why are you so hung up on it? Forget it and move on, there's no need to get so obsessed, really.

cherrymonster · 23/08/2010 12:58

thanks mandy, was just trying to help, and also wanted something to keep me busy as my nan passed away not yet 3 weeks ago and i need to keep my mind off things. oh well, will have to find something else

OP posts:
isore · 23/08/2010 12:59

Actually, I do have a comment. I thought you were unfairly treated on the last thread cm, but I'm not sure another thread, about the last thread which was a spin off of another thread, is the best way to handle it.

MandyMcFly · 23/08/2010 13:01

Oh im sorry to hear that Sad I understand that, sometimes when you are feeling bad the urge to do good becomes even stronger doesn't it? I understand your eagerness, I love organizing events and things, and I get very enthusiastic and excited about it, and just love planning. You should try and see about doing something locally to you, where your kindness would be truly appreciated! I find it bizarre that you have been treated this way when you were just wanting to help!

bytheMoonlight · 23/08/2010 13:05

Step away Cherry, step away - you are doing yourself no favours now

notausualsuspect · 23/08/2010 13:07

ok cm, its me again. i saw that you'd started another thread withdrawing your offer to organise the appeal.

i saw a thread entitled "how should i have handled this", or something, and thought it was yours. really cm, this is a bit much, i mean that nicely, and exemplifies some of the misgivings being expressed.

im sure you are a ery sweet and lovely poster and have nothing against you. but perhaps, your approach is a little, erm, off?

fwiw, you could have just asked for the be earlier thread to deleted. this is starting to smack of melodrama.

btw, my own objections were nothing to do with hun-isms or notoriety.

SoupDragon · 23/08/2010 13:08

The right choice i think, given how you've handled this.

cherrymonster · 23/08/2010 13:09

i did ask for the earlier thread to be deleted notausualsuspect, last night i emailed mnhq and asked but it hasnt been done. i just wanted to thanks those who supported me, and let everyone know that i was stepping down. i didnt feel that i could do that in the original thread

herbietea that's a bit much Shock

'begone, woman, and look to thy children'

cherrymonster hasn't actually done anything wrong Hmm

CakeandRoses · 23/08/2010 13:22

CM offered to do the xmas appeal

A few posters said she was lovely and should do it

CM said hun a few times

BOF and Shiney also offered to do it

Reality said she would offer herself but unfortunately didn't want to Grin

A few posters said CM was a bit odd, working-class, was acting a bit suspicious etc

CM listed her middle-class credentials

The complexities of the data protection act were explained

Some other suggestions for organiser were made, among them: the Baby Jesus, Lisbeth Salander and Bob Carolgees

CM stepped down

It degenerated rather fetchingly into a Mallory Towers tribute.

CakeandRoses · 23/08/2010 13:24

The above summary was for Riven rather than a general thread conclusion service I've started offering Smile

cherrymonster · 23/08/2010 13:24

cakeandroses- it all sounds highly amusing when listed like that. unfortunately, when its happening to you, its nowhere near that funny. i was only trying to help Sad

OP posts:
LibertyGibbet · 23/08/2010 13:26

CakeandRoses, it's degenerated further. I believe Leo Sayer was mentioned at one point.

"Some other suggestions for organiser were made, among them: the Baby Jesus, Lisbeth Salander and Bob Carolgees"

I can't stop laughing. It's just not a sentence you'd expect anywhere.

cherrymonster, I'm sorry it ended in the way it did for you.

I genuinely don't know what happened during the first half, it was all very odd.

TheUnmentioned · 23/08/2010 13:29

Cherrymonster - Its not that big a deal, let it go. Youre just getting yourself into a state over something which really doesnt matter. Youre not doing it, end of.

Trust me, there are hundred of volunteering opportunities out there if you fancy 'giving something back'. I was once a vol co-ordinator for a charity, the volunteers (and charity) got a lot out of it.

Do that, give up on this.

cherrymonster · 23/08/2010 13:31

unmentioned- i am not in a state over this, just disappointed to know what people really think. there is no need to be rude

OP posts:
TheUnmentioned · 23/08/2010 13:31

Oh and fwiw I think the other thread was horridly cliquey and am actually pretty shocked by the smuggery involved but who cares, its an internet forum. Let them get on with it.
