Hi All

It's not for a religious or medical reason- hence the request for private practitioner. I've read up on the Pro's and Cons and it's something that my DH feels very strongly about!!! Any recommendations??

DH isn't circumcised but always wished to be!! He wants it to take place.I'm happy either way in all honesty- I just want it done safely and pain free! which is possible with the right person!!

How odd. I don't think it can be totally pain free can it?

If your dh has always wanted to be circumcised himself perhaps he could get it done first.

goldfinger13 · 11/12/2008 16:27

He's a little too old now to get it done- 10 years ago and he actually would have....

We're Christians and biblically it's something that needs to be done on their 8th day!! Christians nowadays from what i've experienced are much more relaxed and unless your Jewish or Muslim people dont normally get it done. Hence me saying it's not for religious reasons as we're neither.

Perhaps your dh could have his done before, just for the sake of fairness. Obviously under the same circumstances (i.e. local anaesthetic) as your ds would have, so it can be a true reflection and all.

rolandbrowning · 11/12/2008 16:27

How could you do that for no reason? I am looking at my ds and trying to imagine. Why would anyone wish to be circumcised? If he wants to be for some reason he should have it done himself.

Geepers · 11/12/2008 16:28

A circumcision will never be pain free. Tell your husband to cut the end of his own penis off, not his son's.

Sidge · 11/12/2008 16:28

Pain free circumcision?

Not possible.

You will be pushed to find a doctor willing to do it (even privately) without good reason.

pooka · 11/12/2008 16:28

Your dh isn't too old! Circumcision can be done on adults as well as children.

TinselCoveredWILKIE · 11/12/2008 16:28

Why not get his ears pierced at the same time??

mindalina · 11/12/2008 16:28

Seriously

Don't get bits of your baby cut off

If DH is so keen, he should have it done first. I bet he'd change his mind about DS having it done.

it's not a routine procedure in the Uk but it is in a lot of countries around the world!! It's all about perception. I dont want to inflict ANYPAIN on my ds- he's absolutley gorgeous and i'm smitten!! It's not a lecture that i require but a reccommendation...

It's something that my dh would like done- he feels strongly about it- we've researched and made an informed decision.

In all honesty i didnt think they'd be so many views against it! There's a lot of research that shows it's benefits- e.g. reduced chance of cancer of the penis, reduce infections to the simpliest - easier to keep clean!!

Not for religious or medical reasons. Leave well alone then IMO.

Have a google of circumcision videos if you have the stomach for it.

Lauriefairyonthetreeeatscake · 11/12/2008 16:36

Your dh isn't circumcised but always wished to be? So, he should get it done. Not practise on his son.

It will be painful for the child and I do not understand why you would want to abuse and mutilate your child just because your dh 'would have preferred it for himself'.

nooonit · 11/12/2008 16:36

Oh for goodness sake!My DH had to be circumcised for medical reasons when he was little and always really regrets it. Please don't do it for no reason to someone who has no say in it at all.

crazyloon1 · 11/12/2008 16:37

I understand that some kind of anaesthetic can be used but is not always, not sure why...I suggest you view some videos of the procedure before you agree to it, it will make you fairly sick to watch the screaming infants

If it is used and doesn't cause pain at the time it will still be horribly painful as it is healing.

I am 100% against it for all sorts of reasons - children are born with a foreskin for many reasons and I think it's horrific to cut it off. They do the same to girls in some parts of the world...not good is it.

Why does DH think it is so desirable? Can you tell us that?

frogs · 11/12/2008 16:37

Washing is easy too I find, if you want ot keep your ds clean. Less painful also.

Lauriefairyonthetreeeatscake · 11/12/2008 16:37

Yes, abuse and mutilation of children is common in many countries around the world.

Thankfully not here.

Geepers · 11/12/2008 16:39

Well if you go ahead and get it done, you WILL be inflicting pain upon him.

I know men who now suffer from painful erections from being circumcised due to too much skin being removed.
