Hand hold please?

Looking for a hand hold. My 8 yo daughter has clearly got flu and has been the illest I have ever seen her for 5-6 days. 40+ temps, cough and now full of snot. She lays on the sofa all day and now we're on day 5 and she says she can't eat, and that it hurts her stomach to drink. She was sick in the night last night very forcefully. It was green due to empty stomach with white chunks. She burst tiny blood vessels around her mouth being sick. Usually this happens around her eyes. It caught us by surprise as her first bought it sickness. I phoned 111 both yesterday and after she'd been sick today. Both times they've said it's flu and to manage at home.

Earlier on she seemed a bit perkier and got out of bed to lie on the sofa, she said she felt better for a while but then had a sudden bout of forceful sickness again. This was completely unexpected and she hasn't eaten any thing today, although we've managed to keep fluids up with little sips.

When she was sick it was white / clear froth but then tiny black / dark red blood clots / specks. This is clearly what they were. There weren't many, maybe 20-30 floating around, so it didn't make up most of the vomit - although there wasn't much.

Of course I phoned 111 straight back and have now been waiting 4 hours for a call back. They are extremely busy and are saying they may not even be able to get to us throughout the night.

Online there are varying bits of information. Some saying medical emergency, some saying viral. She is now sleeping peacefully as absolutely exhausted. She says her tummy hurts when you ask but isn't clawing the walls or crying, she's able to rest and chat and smile a bit - but eating is a hard no and drinking only because I tell her to.

It's a scary time at the moment and feels like it's so very hard to access help. I'm doing my best listening to 111 as I know the local children's hospital is saying an 8 hour wait and she's so tired and weak I really don't want to do that unless I have to.

Can anyone provide reassurance if their child has had this? Obviously awaiting 111, will call the GP tomorrow and if it happens again tonight will be straight to A&E. please help 😓😓😓😓😓

You must be shattered. I hope you can snatch some rest.

cortisolqueen · 19/12/2022 07:43

Such a good thing you went to A&E. Really hope you get some answers asap,

TheOtherBoleynGirls · 19/12/2022 07:45

Well done for following your instincts that she just isn’t right. I know it’s horrible waiting but you’re in the system now. Hope you get some answers soon x

Hello all. Want to update as so many of you have taken such time to hand hold. I was nervous about posting, I was in a fragile place and worried I'd have a raft of people saying I'd done the wrong thing or gone too late, too early etc. I don't have any family on my side and not many friends either. But here I've had nearly 100 posts, every single one of them encouraging and kind. The is what Mumsnet must have been made for I reckon. Thank you to you all.

By way of an update, the second set of bloods were not clear but, but reassuring. They did rule out some of the more scary stuff. They are keeping her in and focusing on fluids, and watch, wait and see. They said I should be reassured though that the picture on the whole, whilst not typical, does appear to be viral.

Hoping I can breath and relax, but we'll see what the next day holds xx

Fingers crossed for better news today

brushedoff · 19/12/2022 07:47

That's a promising update OP, thinking of you and your DD and that she feels v better soon x

lorisparkle · 19/12/2022 07:49

You did absolutely the right thing and it is good to hear the second results were more reassuring. Will be sending positive thoughts your way.

lemmein · 19/12/2022 07:50

My DD suffers badly with her kidneys and often vomits 'coffee granule' bloody bits when she's having an episode- a lot of your DDs symptoms sound very similar to hers tbh, including the elevated white blood cells and not being able to keep anything down.

Just to reassure you slightly though, every.single.time my DD has been admitted and given IV antibiotics/anti-sickness meds shes made a full recovery in a couple of days. I really hope it's the same for your DD, you've done the right thing taking her in Flowers

lemmein · 19/12/2022 07:52

Cross posted with you OP. That's reassuring news 😊 I hope she recovers quickly and is home soon x

ItWasSadlyTimetoChangemyName6 · 19/12/2022 07:52

Thinking of you op Flowers hope you can get some rest now

DuckoffXnas · 19/12/2022 07:57

Done on getting your DD the help she needs

Justhereforaibu1 · 19/12/2022 07:59

You poor things what a horrible night. Hope they can get some definite answers. Thank you for updating us

everydaysabeginning · 19/12/2022 08:33

Thank you for the update at what must be a most heart rending and frightening time for you. Stay strong. Great to hear more positive news. 💐

Sameshitdifferentdayx · 19/12/2022 08:45

That's a reassuring sign. I'm glad they think it's nothing more sinister. I hope she's on the mend very soon and you can both get some much deserved rest xx

FabricPigeon · 19/12/2022 08:52

Thinking of you, OP. Hope you get good news very soon and everyone is back on the mend and able to enjoy Christmas Flowers

walnutmarzipan · 19/12/2022 09:08

That sounds reassuring. Sounds like a rollercoaster of a night though. You both must be shattered. Fingers crossed they can get to the bottom of what's wrong x

Luckymummytoone · 19/12/2022 09:11

I’m glad her bloods have improved a bit OP. Hope she picks up a bit today and you manage some rest ❤️
when my boy was younger his bloods were all out and they scared the life out of me about it being quite serious… but they then quite quickly returned to normal once he’d stopped being sick so fingers crossed for you too x 😘

Bluekerfuffle · 19/12/2022 11:10

Hope you both get some rest and DD gets a lot better today Flowers

Mince314s · 19/12/2022 11:45

Thank goodness for that! Maybe time to go get yourself some nice food and snacks to keep you going? Hospital trips with kids tend to be a marathon, not a sprint, so it's important to take care of yourself too.

I'm glad more scary things have been ruled out. I'm a single mum with pretty much only my daughter and my immediate family, very few friends, so I fully imagine how isolating it must feel at times like this.

I've been thinking of you and your daughter all day and popped on to see if you'd updated, wishing her the best and still holding your hand! X

spiderlight · 19/12/2022 13:54

I'm glad the bloods are mostly reassuring. Hope you've both managed to get some sleep now.

Retsina24 · 19/12/2022 17:21

That's positive news. Hope your dd has improved further as the day has gone on. X

Tabitha888 · 19/12/2022 17:31

Checking in and seems like there is improvement. I understand The health anxiety. It's awful. Really hope this is all over so you can enjoy your Christmas xxx

Perime · 19/12/2022 18:48

Hope the day has been a bit better for you both x

IncessantNameChanger · 19/12/2022 19:09

I hope your sll home and resting now. I have had some wacky bloods but on retesting they are normal. If your dehydrated, exhausted and being sick that can't be good for dds bloods. So scary though. At least your in the system.now and have a plan. No knowing is the worst.
