Hand hold please?

Looking for a hand hold. My 8 yo daughter has clearly got flu and has been the illest I have ever seen her for 5-6 days. 40+ temps, cough and now full of snot. She lays on the sofa all day and now we're on day 5 and she says she can't eat, and that it hurts her stomach to drink. She was sick in the night last night very forcefully. It was green due to empty stomach with white chunks. She burst tiny blood vessels around her mouth being sick. Usually this happens around her eyes. It caught us by surprise as her first bought it sickness. I phoned 111 both yesterday and after she'd been sick today. Both times they've said it's flu and to manage at home.

Earlier on she seemed a bit perkier and got out of bed to lie on the sofa, she said she felt better for a while but then had a sudden bout of forceful sickness again. This was completely unexpected and she hasn't eaten any thing today, although we've managed to keep fluids up with little sips.

When she was sick it was white / clear froth but then tiny black / dark red blood clots / specks. This is clearly what they were. There weren't many, maybe 20-30 floating around, so it didn't make up most of the vomit - although there wasn't much.

Of course I phoned 111 straight back and have now been waiting 4 hours for a call back. They are extremely busy and are saying they may not even be able to get to us throughout the night.

Online there are varying bits of information. Some saying medical emergency, some saying viral. She is now sleeping peacefully as absolutely exhausted. She says her tummy hurts when you ask but isn't clawing the walls or crying, she's able to rest and chat and smile a bit - but eating is a hard no and drinking only because I tell her to.

It's a scary time at the moment and feels like it's so very hard to access help. I'm doing my best listening to 111 as I know the local children's hospital is saying an 8 hour wait and she's so tired and weak I really don't want to do that unless I have to.

Can anyone provide reassurance if their child has had this? Obviously awaiting 111, will call the GP tomorrow and if it happens again tonight will be straight to A&E. please help 😓😓😓😓😓

I am so sorry - it is so hard when your child is poorly. It’s some how worse in the night- I stayed in a&e overnight a couple of weeks ago due to my daughter not being able to breathe. Like you say the dehydration would be my biggest concern if they aren’t worried about what she’s vomiting. Could they suggest anything to help? Would it just be electrolytes or sucking ice cubes or similar? With such a high temp and so regularly vomiting it sounds inevitable that unless she improves soon she will need to be back for fluids poor thing? Hope you can get some sleep in the morning- can anyone else help take over watching her ?

Sameshitdifferentdayx · 19/12/2022 06:43

Hope you're both OK this morning OP xx

Her blood tests have come back and it's not good news so we have a bed on the bay now. They're waiting for the rest before giving me the full picture. I've not stopped crying. Best case is a bacterial infection but they don't know where x

I hope now that they have results OP they can start treating her and her her feeling better. So scary for you. At least your dd can hopefully rest now that you have a bed.
I'm off to work now but will be thinking of you today. Stay strong lovely.

Ljc1985 · 19/12/2022 06:49

Oh OP sending so many well wishes to your little one! I'm pleased she has a bed but I'm sorry the bloods have shown something. Fingers massively crossed it's something they can treat swiftly

SunnySusan83 · 19/12/2022 06:49

Thank you. They seemed to indicate they wanted to rule out sinister things (between the lines the doctor was hinting at leukaemia) because of a rash she has plus elevated white blood cells. Terrified doesn't cover it really x

At least you're slowly getting some answers and now they can start treating her accordingly. This just shows you've 100% done the right thing in getting her seen to tonight/last night. As long as its taken and as draining as it is and has been, she needed to be there.
Now you're also in a bay it should be a bit more comfier for her - though I know a hospital bed is never comfy!! Make sure you're eating and drinking yourself xx

Minkyscamp · 19/12/2022 06:53

Goodness you poor things. I hope you get some answers soon. In the meantime, try and take it step by step and just focus on the basics: drink, eat (if you can) and try to rest. Sending lots of positivity your way.

StartupRepair · 19/12/2022 06:54

Thinking of you and your daughter and hope you get some clarity today. Glad she is now in a bay and try to feel comforted she has people around her who can diagnose and help her get better 💐

Huffle · 19/12/2022 07:40

Thinking of you and hoping you get some positive news today. I know how terrifying it is having little ones in hospital xx

itsgettingweird · 19/12/2022 07:41

Just adding my voice to those thinking if you.

I work in education and there's an awful bug doing the rounds currently.

We've had pupils with high temperatures for weeks who seem to improve and then dip again.

My medic friend said kids immune systems are fecked due to lockdowns and we are seeing the effects of this now.
