Molluscum - end of my tether!!

Tillymint10 · 02/08/2022 07:36

As above …. Fucking molluscum!

They seem to be spreading like wildfire, I think they look better then oh no theres 2 more! Also now seeding to new sites & I am petrified of them ending up on DCs face!

I feel like I have taken every approach possible, militant about towels, not touching, keeping them covered (lots on arms so feel like a wicked witch with long sleeve tops in the heat!) 8 hour cream ….. and then also ignoring & trying to forget about them!

Unfortunately the arm ‘crop’ 🤢now surrounded by eczema so being itched and at risk of spreading!

Not bothered with GP as of course they will say nothing to be done

Ive not actually tried mollenol/molludab but am about to drop 70 quid on an order of mollenol patches from the US, before I do, has anyone tried the above or got any other tips?

These fucking things are a massive source of stress!!

My son had over 150, mostly on arms legs and torso when he was around 6. He also had eczema in the same patches and itching these areas caused the massive spread over 2 years.

I applied colloidal silver very sparingly and they literally disappeared over a period 10 of days. Coincidently, around the same.time the first and largest largest molluscm became inflamed and sore after being bashed somehow, and I am.still not sure if it was the cream or his immune system eventually kicking in.

Over the years he had similar happen to smaller spots , so not sure if this was the primary spot being infected or the cream . Just thought I'd post to share experience.

Pop out the H bodies (pierce with sterilised needle) and they die off. It's the little white balls in the centre that keep the virus running.

Runnerduck34 · 29/09/2022 14:22

My DC were covered for about 2 + years. GP said no treatment available and would go away by itself but honestly they had it for years , eventually with a lots of googling I tried the silver colloidal and it worked- after 2 years of being covered they cleared up in weeks, of course it maybe coincidence but I would seriously give it a go .

HelloDoggy · 01/10/2022 22:41

Molludab worked for us. It was a bit sore for ds when applied, but it worked well.

Thereisnolight · 01/10/2022 22:49

They hide from the immune system. Need to open up a couple so they get inflamed (the body starts to attack them). Then the body learns immunity.

We took DD to a private dermatologist who put something on them to cause the spots to rupture and be exposed to the immune system. I’ve also heard that pricking a couple with a (sterile) needle works. DD’s were there for 3 years - gone within a month of seeing the dermatologist.

RC1234 · 01/10/2022 22:50

Tried molludab, but it was too painful for the children. We used Zovirax cold sore cream. Also kept infected areas covered to hinder further spread. It took 3 months to clear for both of them.

Rainallnight · 16/10/2022 22:08

I’m here with an update!

DD’s molluscum is clearing up. No new spots in about three weeks and the old ones are all healing. I think we’re done!

Two things could have made a difference.

She picked some of them pretty aggressively and I didn’t stop her. I knew she’d never let me stick a pin in them, or remove the white bit, as people have advised on here. But I thought she might aggravate them through picking.

I also slathered her in Thuja gel and gave her Thuja tablet.

We can have the argument about homeopathy (though I’m a bit tired for that, to be honest) but it genuinely seemed to make a difference really quickly.

Whatever it was, I’m just so relieved we’re through it.

Molludab worked for us. It does sting though.

dammiejodger · 28/11/2022 19:27

Where do you get colloidal silver? My DS is covered and he's getting so fed up. Molludab didn't work. A couple have burst with pus but he has more popping up everyday.

BeckyWithTheGoodHair010101 · 10/12/2022 06:34

We are nearly there with getting rid of the molloscum. She'd started to "fight them off" as we used molludab on some of the big ones. Just recently we got some fucidin from the doctor for some of the bigger ones and that really helped - they must have been infected. Still a few more to go but I'm hopeful.

MotherE · 11/12/2022 00:07

We used mollenol sensitive lotion and their patches. Worked really well on most of the bumps. All three kids had molluscum and seems to work a bit differently for each. On my eldest mollenol work within 2-3 weeks with no problems. We also saw some reddening of the skin after using mollenol patches but were told this was a good sign and they would soon die off - and they did! My middle who has eczema and a bad case took longer and more effort. Almost gave up. We made use of mollenol email support when things were not going well. They were really helpful and made the difference with my middle one. 😁

Loulouloulouloulou · 07/03/2023 19:43

How long had he had them for?

Loulouloulouloulou · 07/03/2023 19:55

How much salt do you put in the bath?

Loulouloulouloulou · 07/03/2023 20:02

Elizabeth Arden 8 hour cream?

Catallia · 08/03/2023 02:30

@Loulouloulouloulou We used about a cup of salt in my DC's bath. If there is a lot of broken skin, that much salt might make it sting though (depends how big your bath is I guess and how much water you put in). But you could do less to start with and then add more if it's not stingy.

For a full adult bath I use 2 cups of salt (I use it for myself for eczema).

HomeTogether · 08/03/2023 04:05

i remember putting a similar post to yours when my son had them. He had loads under his armpit and started spreading. even to his genitals. We used molludab. It’s expensive but it did really help. It didn’t seem to sting him and you literally dap the smallest amount on.
. It cleared them up in 3 months I’d say. Someone told me there is a larger one and to make sure you get that one as it’s like the ‘queen’ spot and it helps the body to recognise the infection and fight it.
My daughter got it too from my son but only had a few on her legs that didn’t spread much. Molludab didn’t work so well for her but I kept going with it and it was gone in a year.

Mumma2Ro · 11/03/2023 04:37

So pleased I found this thread!
my son first had this when he was about 2 years old. It took us nearly 2 years to get rid of. Was only on one buttock and upper thigh so was wash to cover. Now he is 6 and it’s back!! Everywhere. Hands, elbows, both buttocks, and inner thighs. They aren’t blistering yet, just the red spots and bumps. But I know it’s the dreaded MC! I’m gutted for him really as he will be so conscious of them. Now summer is coming will be very hard to cover up 😢

Update from me 6 months on and molluscum free 🎉🎉

Molludab did it for us, mollenol/eight hour and every other old wives tale did nothing.
It took several months to get rid of them all because new ones kept popping up, although as the numbers reduced the spread was a lot easier to control so less & less
new ones, but Molludab worked within a few weeks of use on each spot. There were maybe 2 where the molludab hadnt worked after 8 weeks so I retreated and it worked!

I was vvvv sceptical but would 100% recommend.

Oh and also v minimal moaning about stinging/pain on application, only on the very odd occasion & ‘blowing’ on them seemed to help if DC complained.
For us the mollenol caused chemical type burns, lots of localised irritation/pain & didnt get rid of any either.

Tillymint10 · 11/03/2023 22:26

And we were 12 months from the appearance of the first one to the last one healing. Probably had 50+ in that time frame I think, although not all at once. Spread across several sites - arms, legs, bum!

Gp's don't 'fob you off' ... many years ago the treatment WAS to poke each one with a sharp pointy stick with an irritant on the end... which is basically what molludab/digging out with a needle etc does... however.. thankfully somewhere down the line it was decided that GPs inflicting painful, sometimes brutal procedures requiring a child to be held down screaming, that can easily leave scarring , on children for non serious conditions that ultimately resolve spontaneously, was deemed deeply unethical and inappropriate. Children are rarely relaxed, warm and freshly bathed in surgeries... I'm not sure what people think GPs should be doing ? They are not even allowed to prescribe the chemical treatments on the NHS in most areas.

Eliza121 · 11/03/2023 22:47

Colloidal Silver worked for my daughter. Absolute ballache to get rid of though

MotherE · 12/03/2023 06:34

Our three kids all had molluscum after a gp gave us the same advice to do nothing and it spread through the family. We used mollenol lotion and patches on all of them. It was a slog with the first one (our big boy) as it had spread so much. The support we got from the mollenol help people was excellent and made a big difference. Molluscum can re-appear and again on our boy it does come back sometimes and in the same areas as he first got it. We've learnt our lesson and now get on to it quickly! Good luck. 🖐

funder · 19/04/2023 06:53

Cover them up with big plasters. That's the only thing that worked here
