Molluscum - end of my tether!!

Tillymint10 · 02/08/2022 07:36

As above …. Fucking molluscum!

They seem to be spreading like wildfire, I think they look better then oh no theres 2 more! Also now seeding to new sites & I am petrified of them ending up on DCs face!

I feel like I have taken every approach possible, militant about towels, not touching, keeping them covered (lots on arms so feel like a wicked witch with long sleeve tops in the heat!) 8 hour cream ….. and then also ignoring & trying to forget about them!

Unfortunately the arm ‘crop’ 🤢now surrounded by eczema so being itched and at risk of spreading!

Not bothered with GP as of course they will say nothing to be done

Ive not actually tried mollenol/molludab but am about to drop 70 quid on an order of mollenol patches from the US, before I do, has anyone tried the above or got any other tips?

These fucking things are a massive source of stress!!

It seems brutal but duct tape was the only thing that worked for us. Duct tape over the worst spots and we saw results within a few days.

BeckyWithTheGoodHair010101 · 02/08/2022 07:39

Following as both my DC have them, it's been going on for about 2 years. GP will do nothing. Smallest is getting one that "explodes" and leaves a horrible scar most weeks. What do you do with the duct tape?

shash1982 · 02/08/2022 07:40

My DC had them on his arm.
He wanted to wear a tshirt in the summer but didn't want them on display so asked for a plaster on them.
The only plasters we had were the heavy duty large swim plasters so put a couple of those on it.
When we pulled them off it seemed to have sucked all of the pus out if the middle of them then they slowly started to disappear!
Not sure if it was just the time for them to go or if it was the plasters but whatever it was it worked!

We tried everything and nothing worked. DD had it 5 months. DS had it about a year.

DinkyDaisy · 02/08/2022 07:42

We did nothing for ds 1 apart from gp advice of do nothing. He had eczema as well. Awful. Ended up on oral antibiotics twice with volcanic looking infections.
Used moludab for ds 2...
Still not pleasant but over more quickly.
Not heard of other products. Will Google!

Gumbo · 02/08/2022 07:43

DS had this, it was horrendous. Fucidin cream helped the ones that were the most infected, but after 2 years of people looking at him like he was a leper we had them frozen off...and never looked back, it was genuinely life-changing.

Do talk to a doctor though, they should be able to help more than they are currently.

knackeredagain · 02/08/2022 07:44

It was a bit weird and I’m not sure you could orchestrate it, but my DC got chickenpox and it kicked molluscum’s arse. When the pox faded the molluscum did too and it never came back.

Ridingthegravytrain · 02/08/2022 07:44

It was a while ago but we used zymaderm. Cleared it up quickly and she had them everywhere. They need to get angry and then they go away

funder · 02/08/2022 07:45

I also found keeping them covered in plasters was the only thing that worked.

oishutup · 02/08/2022 07:48

My son had them for about 2 years - all over his chest, back, arms and legs but never on his face. Some turned into abscesses and he needed antibiotics 3 times.
They only cleared up when he had a blood test for anaemia. They literally all disappeared within a week of having a blood test. Maybe it kickstarted something in his immune system? So weird.

DinkyDaisy · 02/08/2022 07:50

Ds 2 did have fucidin cream on angry spots on testicle.
Only used moludab on a couple of spots and obviously not in that area!
Once a couple irritated by moludab they all got angry looking and disappeared.
Ds2 had an easier time than ds1 where we followed fo nothing gp advice. Maybe coincidence but who knows...

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 02/08/2022 07:52

DD had them in the back of her knees for about 18 months. This sounds brutal, but I punctured the biggest one with a pin, and squeezed it. Gave it a good clean, and covered it in Sudocreme. Both knees cleared up in a few days.

PocketFullOfPuddocks · 02/08/2022 07:53

My daughter has had a bad crop on her thigh for almost 2 years. One blew up, looked angry, red and inflamed and I thought that was the beginning of the end but no, more appeared on her arm and one on her face! I bought molludab a few months ago but could only apply it when she was asleep because it burned and it seems to have stopped the spread and they all look less angry, but I’d hoped they would be gone. I got it from the link below which is less than anywhere else I could find. I’m going to try duct tape now I think!

LittleMissNoSoPlump · 02/08/2022 07:53

We used that stuff from Amazon, Molludab I think it’s called. It stung like heck but my youngest sons spots were gone in 3 months. Eldest sons lasted for year. I feel your pain… so many summers spent covering up the spots everyday so he couldn’t infect others.

TheProf · 02/08/2022 07:56

We used Thuja from Holland and Barrett. Tiny homeopathic tablets that cleared them up in a couple of weeks... also used them for a verucca too.

Catallia · 02/08/2022 08:07

My DD had both eczema and molluscum and we started adding salt to her bath for the eczema (just regular cheap table salt, bought in kg bags from supermarket, adding about 1/2 to 1 cup to a full bath).

Her eczema is much better and the molloscum has also cleared up and not returned, but I have no idea whether that is causation or coincidence. Just posting in case anyone thinks it's worth a try

sunshineandsuddenshowers · 02/08/2022 08:07

Tried molludab - too painful. Tried thuja - useless.

what worked for all my 3 (got it in succession) was squeezing them out, really carefully, w a sterile needle and cleaning w the alcohol wipes. There’s a ‘pearl’ inside each one which you need to get out. After a bit - not really v long - they suddenly all went away.

Dr said that somehow the body needs to ‘see’ them and will then clear them. For us it was the attacking individual ones (and being super careful not to spread the gunk) that worked.

Cheerfulcharlie · 02/08/2022 08:07

High dose vitamin C for 3 weeks. Not much happened until 2.5 weeks then very suddenly cleared up after many months.

MrsWooster · 02/08/2022 08:12

I’d second the pierce to let the body ‘see’ them.
Also tea tree oil but that’s my highly effective go-to for everything-I reckon it’d cure a chopped off head!

Popplebop · 02/08/2022 08:18

We also attacked the individual ones that came up to a head (after a bath worked). Super careful to not physically touch the molluscum - used tissues and covered my hands- as you need to get the centre out. Then use the small round sticking plasters to cover the hole. Once we started doing this it cleared up on both children. Pretty grim.

overitall1 · 02/08/2022 08:31

I've never heard of this (two adult DS) - stupid question but is it a 'new' thing? Never heard of it when I was growing up, nor my DC. Does it have another name?

Soberfutures · 02/08/2022 08:32

Find the mother spot. Usually the first and biggest and use a needle to pop/pick it. If u can squeeze it and open it up. The body will then realise it is there and create a reaction to the rest. My son had them for a year and once I realised this they cleared in over a week

flashpaper · 02/08/2022 08:38

Agreed with PP about letting the body "see" them.
We did cotton balls soaked in apple cider vinegar with Vaseline around the surrounding skin overnight. DD hated it, it burned, but all of a sudden they got red and inflamed and just started to disappear. I squeezed the biggest one to get the core out and that one has scarred, but no other marks left from it.

TugboatAnnie · 02/08/2022 08:40

Plasters were the only things that worked for us. They stopped the spreading when the individual spots exploded. After two years they were all gone in a month. Don't waste money on expensive lotions etc.
